  1. Me too. But I don’t doubt the plan was to be in the zone, or just off it low and outside. Just not a complete meatball.
  2. My guess is because he got him twice on the slider, where Goodman swung, he tried being cute and hoped he would fool him with a fastball in the zone he didn’t swing at, thinking it was another slider. IDK why.
  3. Counterpoint : Alonso and his $31M a year for 5 year contract has a WAR of 1.7 this year. Busch is at 1.9. Last year Alonso’s WAR, for all those numbers you posted, was 3.3. Busch was 4.5. Really don’t think using Alonso and Busch is a good example of whatever you are trying to prove. That is, unless you are suggesting Hoyer made the right decision to stick with Busch and pass on Alonso. But I don’t think that is your point.
  4. According to my weather app it looks like a 10% chance of rain at game time and only going to 15% chance during the entire game.
  5. Cabrera’s performance up until now has been disappointing. I agree with that. I also agree there are guys they could have had who are currently having a better year. But they have Cabrera for 2 1/2 more years. I think the deal will end up fine.
  6. Why are you comparing picking up a rental pitcher for a hitter with several years after this one? If you are going to use Alvarez as your hitter you should use Hunter Brown as the pitcher. Or, better yet Skenes. In that scenario give me the pitcher. That is the truer comparison. Also, you have mentioned Alvarez and Abrams in the last. Where has it been seen that these guys are even available. Why would the Nationals trade Abrams? They are in the WC race. Why are the Astros trading Alvarez? And if they are, why not Brown too? Given the choice of adding a great bat or a great arm and each with the same control time, the pitcher would help more now and later.
  7. This is silly. So Cassie sucks but the trade with the Marlins is a disaster? No, Cabrera hasn’t done much since getting here, but they have him 2 more years. He is a good pitcher that is pitching poorly right now. I get being disappointed in Cabrera. I just think calling the trade a disaster is some huge overreaction.
  8. The voice of reason. That you for saying everything I try to say but much better than I say it.
  9. Cubs also lead the league in men on base. So unless you put it in the correct context, no, it isn’t worth bringing up. Cubs are definitely struggling in that department. But just using the men left on base isn’t a fair guide. I am sure both Happ and, especially, Bregman have bad numbers with risp, but just showing how many they left on is only half the story. I believe I saw crazy stats in the Dbacks with risp. But if someone on their team doesn’t come up with men in scoring position as often as Happ and Bregman they leave less men on base.
  10. I’m talking about the Cubs biggest need. It is 100% pitching. If the Cubs players all played to their expectations the offense would be fine but the pitching would still be bad. I honestly don’t know where the Cubs rank offensively versus pitching. But over the entire first 70-75 games I would bet the pitching is ranked worse than the offense. I mean, sure, the team can use a star bat. Every team in baseball can use a star bat. But as a whole the Cubs line up is better than their pitching staff.
  11. Cubs need the players they have to play better and more to their norms, on the offensive side of the ball. If they did that the offense is fine. Adding a “star” bat isn’t going to move the needle much. But the pitchers they have, even performing to their expected norms, and even with an elite defense, would still rank in the bottom 25% of the league. That tells me they need pitching.
  12. I don’t agree with that either. What is the Cubs ranking in baseball for their offense? What is it for their pitching? And their pitching comes with great defense behind it. So, in theory if they had average talent in the pitching department the team should fair well in runs against because the defense makes the pitching even better. What the Cubs need is the players they have in the line up to play to their expected norms and then better pitchers. They don’t need better hitters. They need their hitters to hit like they are supposed to.
  13. He seemed to be very hot between innings. He was splashing water in his face. It could be dehydration. My hand cramps up when dehydrated. Hopefully that is all it is.
  14. But games before May 9th count too. Again, I am also very frustrated. But a team 3 games over .500 on the year is not a bad team. By definition it is average. Also, I have to think if none of the pitchers gets hurt they have at least 3 more wins. So that would put them 9 games over. Basically a good team. Had you said right now they are a bad team, again, hard to argue that. But as a whole, they are average. And insured have definitely taken a toll.
  15. Or Shaw. I agree they need to sit those guys some.
  16. This just isn’t true. They arent even a BAD baseball team with all the injuries. Now you can argue they are average. And it would be hard to disagree with you. But they are average with so many injuries. I don’t like the way the season is going. I am very disappointed. But they are not a bad team now, and without injuries would be pretty good.
  17. Beat me to it. What if they went 4-6 in that losing streak? The. They would be 11 games over .500. They would be looking good at 42-31
  18. They signed Swanson prior to the ‘23 season. And they won 83 games that year. I believe they finished just outside the playoffs. I think one more win against the Dbacks, would have resulted in a trip to the playoffs. I also believe that in early September the Cubs chances of making the playoffs spiked at over 90%. Suggesting they were nowhere close to competing is just a false narrative. They signed Swanson to compete. And they did. They have done so every year since ‘23.
  19. I think what CC is doing now is fine. Play him, but also give him a day or two to sit down. And when you play him don’t be afraid to PH for him late in a game. His defense is valuable. As you said, his fWAR is 10th among SS. But he has to start hitting too.
  20. Your “mega star” criteria and all contending teams have more than 1 of them is just a ridiculous take. Who deems a guy a mega star? What criteria is used? Is it the numbers that player puts up in the year the team you are referring to won a WS? Is it career achievement, even if that particular year he wasn’t that good? I don’t agree with a lot of what you said, but just focusing on this one issue, please define “mega star” and tell me the two on each team competing for the playoffs this year. Who are Seattle’s two mega stars?, Rays, Padres, Guardians, Braves, Brewers, etc….
  21. This sums it up for me too. And if every B- FO personal were fired there would be a lot of openings in baseball and a bunch of teams picking up other teams B- castoffs. Jed isn’t great, but he isn’t as bad as some suggest.
  22. Regardless of which is the cubs #1 prospect, both have to be top 50, right? Both doing great things at a young age.
  23. But even after hitting a guy to load the bases, he got out of that inning without further damage. . And then pitched another inning. He walked a guy to start the 7th and was pulled. He went 4.2 innings. Hardly a long leash. And the pen gave the run up anyway. Remember he didn’t start. So they were down a pen arm already. Yes, after the inning he gave up the homer, when he got in trouble again CC could have pulled him. But aside from the homer he was pretty good up until then. And he has to eat innings. They were already down 3-0 to Webb. It was probably a game that, at that time, they had a 10% chance of winning. Why run through pen arms when maybe Rea can’t get through that inning, and even if he couldn’t, you probably aren’t scoring 4 runs anyway.
