  1. Very true. And I haven’t given up on his bat either. But the problem is I don’t see him at third next year. I guess if Bellinger goes go Morel can be the DH and they can trade for/sign a third baseman. The issue is, if they go FA and sign Chapman, their offense isn’t improved. If they trade for Parades, maybe that improves the offense, but at what cost? I am really in the fence with Morel. I think he still can be good. But not sure he fits this team.
  2. I understand the reasoning behind people suggesting trading Taillon, but I wouldn’t do it if I was the Cubs FO. I hope they don’t. He is reasonably priced for the next 2 years and I just don’t trust the Cubs will use that money and probably even more, to bring in another solid MOR starting pitcher. I would be fine with Bellinger being traded as well as any other players not expected to be in the 25’ team. That would be Wisdom, Tauchman, any pen arm, Hendricks. Maybe even Morel if the Cubs do decide he isn’t going to be their 3rd baseman moving forward. And that should be their decision. The problem with Morel is you might be trading him at his lowest value. So unless someone sees a young 30+ homer guy who can improve and pays accordingly, they might be better off not moving him.
  3. Agreed. I am not in the hot take camp that the draft sucks. Nor do I think rd 2 and 3 were lame picks. I am just wondering where they will be spending the money. Maybe the 4th rounder is an over slot. Maybe someone else we don’t realize right now, is an over slot. I am also surprised they didn’t go more pitching. But as you said, it is silly to get worked up about players none of us really know. Time will tell. The group they have now has done a good job. So you have to believe they know what they are doing.
  4. And I am not. I don’t know enough to know if it was a good draft or bad draft. The only thing I am saying is it appears the Cubs took a lot of guys well before their rankings. Usually that sets up a team for a big over slot at some point. And at this point, maybe except for the 4th rd pick, I don’t see an overslot. I am also kind of surprised at the lack of pitchers they took.
  5. The only issue I have with getting Chapman and Bellinger opting in would be they still don’t have a big bat. They have a very solid defense, especially if Bellinger moves to right and Suzuki is the DH. Maybe Morel+ brings them a decent catcher. That would be a solid team, but not a very offensive team. That is why, IMO, Bellinger has to go and they have to replace his bat with a better bat. Either through free agency or a trade.
  6. Don’t really understand this draft. Appear to be many underslot picks. But for what? For who? Or are the Cubs now going to go cheap in the draft? That was never a concern since Theo got here. But after seeing these picks, who are they spending the money on. It does not appear the publications who do rankings agree with most of the guys the Cubs picked. To be clear, I don’t know any of those guys. I am just basing my comment on how many are either not ranked in the top 500, or are picked way before where they are ranked. Maybe 1908 or someone else who really follows theee guys can explain why it appears the Cubs too so many guys way before they were projected.
  7. I’m not trading anyone they plan on being in the team in 25’. This includes Hoerner, Taillon, Happ and Suzuki. It doesn’t include Morel, Neris, Merryweather, and Bellinger. Honestly I would be fine basically trading Bellinger as a salary dump. Basically I see the Cubs needing a big bat next year, a 3rd baseman and a catcher. Maybe trade any combination of minor league talent with the exception of Horton to get Paredes. Morel can go in that deal too. Then sign Soto and either trade or sign a catcher. If they want to add a pen arm, fine. But I honestly think they have enough pen arms to make a good pen within their system. If they can’t get Soto, maybe sign someone like Chapman for 3rd and try working on a trade for the big bat. Maybe Guerrero? Maybe Tucker? Again, for either you work with the young talent and Morel to make the trade. If it is Guerrero, he becomes the DH, and you extend him. If it is Tucker he moves to right and you extend him. Tucker would cost much more. He plays right and Suzuki is the DH. If they have extra money they can look at an innings eating starter. With Imanaga, Steele, Taillon, Wicks, Assad, Horton, Brown, & Wesneski they don’t necessarily need another starter. But with many on innings limits, it wouldn’t hurt.
  8. Yep. Those two teams did what I feared the Cubs would do. Glad the Xubs took who they did.
  9. I am hoping for a college player. I don’t like HS pitchers.
  10. Malcolm Moore as an underslot is my guess. Hope I am wrong.
  11. I wouldn’t be shocked if the Cubs didn’t end ppup with any of the guys you mentioned.
  12. He did throw to home on a bounce today. No one went to the middle of the diamond to cut the throw off. It was not his mistake. It was whoever should have set up who was at fault. That allowed Arenado to take second on the throw home.
  13. The only thing that would be of concern about trading Suzuki is the Japanese ballplayers coming over. I feel the Cubs have a very good reputation with Asian players. Outside of the Dodgers, IMO, there is no team with a better chance at getting a player from Asia. I do worry that if they traded Suzuki that might change. And besides that, why do they need to trade either. Those are both very good bats. Keep them and add to them. I know you said if they had to trade one. I am saying they don’t have to so no reason to even discuss it. Both are good.
  14. And whenever I use that to value a trade I am told not to do so. Based on that a PCA for Robert straight up is fair. Is it? In what world would the Sox really do that.
  15. Oh, sorry. I misunderstood. As a free agent I wouldn’t be interested in him. He would be another glove first guy they would have to play at third and probably have to pay him as if he is a SS. I just feel the Cubs need a solid bat at 3rd.
  16. I would make this trade but I dont think the Sox will. I think they will want the centerpiece to be a pitching prospect. I don’t see the Cubs as a match.
  17. Not if the Sox want pitching. Unless the Cubs are going to put Horton in the trade they can be outbid by other teams. I just don’t see any combo that would have the Sox trade Robert to the Cubs.
  18. What would you expect them to do? This is exactly what you suggested. And because of this they can’t sell off right now. And for that matter, what do you really expect them to sell and get. Or on the flip side, what do you honestly expect a team with maybe a 20% chance to make the playoffs, trade for? Does not selling now really hurt them for next year or even the year after. Who are they selling and what can they honestly expect back. And should they really give away solid prospects to buy someone? I would say no. Unless they buy someone like Paredes, who has years left, or Robert, I don’t expect much. And IMO, that is not a wrong decision by the FO.
  19. Do you really see the Brewers trading him to the Cubs. I don’t.
  20. I see the Rays are getting calls on Paredes. That would be a guy the Cubs should be discussing. And they have enough young talent to make that happen. They can also send the Rays Morel in the event the Rays aren’t doing a complete dump. Morel plus for Paredes would be something I would like to see. It is buying, but also doing so for the future. So it makes a lot of sense.
  21. Agreed. I am hoping for 3-1. A split means the Cubs need a 5-1 homestand after the break to get back to 500 with 56 games to play. If they want to really be in this and not dump guys they need to keep the momentum going.
