  1. Wonder if the market really speeds up now, or if Christmas slows it a little longer.
  2. I can’t help but fantasize the cubs had the dodgers offseason. Very hard not to be jealous of them right now.
  3. Probably best we don’t wish the dodgers to fail. If they do, dumb and dumber will just use that as an excuse to never spend again.
  4. Good for them. They have good ownership and a front office not petrified of their own shadows. Legit contemplating being a fan of them.
  5. …it was you, wasn’t it?!
  6. There was some talk online that it just wasn’t a very popular part of the convention. But it does concern me a bit. I assume had we signed Ohtani for instance the panel would have been a go.
  7. Yeah, I’m not expecting it either. I don’t see Snell or Imanaga at all as there was some noise that the latter is exceeding early market estimations. I’d personally like to see the cubs just go crazy on pitching acquisitions this offseason. I’ve come around a little bit on Bieber, and I’d love to go get Hader as well. Since we’re built a bit more on the defensive side of the ball, I think if we made a really good pitching staff it serves the purpose of contending in the short term, while also letting the position player prospects develop another year.
  8. Not at all, I agree with the freedom to post part. What I’m confused on is those implying my posts are tiresome, repeated, and clogging up the forum. My point would be if you were responding to my every post the same way, you’d be doing what you’re essentially accusing me of doing. Again, it’s just a boring offseason. It’s really hard to discuss anything other than the lack of moves when that’s all this offseason has consisted of. I think what we have to come to terms with is that we’re essentially divided into two groups at the moment: group A. Is wildly concerned at the lack of movement and overall worrisome rumored plans. Group B. Wants to wait and see how it plays out. No one is really wrong here. It’s just a vastly different way of looking at things.
  9. Oh for real? It seemed like it was the cubs alone last month. Then, I heard the mariners too. Don’t realize more teams were linked. I haven’t had as much time to check twitter the last few days though.
  10. Yeah, I was heavily leaning Imanaga earlier this off-season, but for some reason I thought he was a bit younger than he is. Now, I have him and Montgomery basically side-by-side.
  11. Yeah, Boras could be a factor. My point was you have to think he has a kinda predetermined market, right? I think Belli last year was almost the same in a sense of theyre the types of players that probably aren’t really looking for multi-year deals, and likely just want to rebuild some value. But I see your point as well. Boras is probably just squeezing for any drop he can find.
  12. Dude, it’s a cubs forum. I don’t take it seriously as you seem to. There’s literally no such thing as “consequences” on a baseball forum. It seems one of us has really warped priorities.
  13. Who would you go with out of Montgomery, Imanaga, or Snell? To me, I don’t care for Snell. But I find myself swaying on the other two.
  14. I joked about the cubs signing Tucker Barnhart to a two year deal and mentioned if we’re going to be targeting the third tier players we should probably go get them. You’re acting like I went on a two page rant about the Padres signing last night. This is the most dramatic thing I’ve ever seen. It’s just a pointless discussion at this stage. I’m going to react how I feel like.
  15. Each day that passes I get more surprised Hoskins hasn’t signed yet. Leaves me wondering if there really is something to the potential multi-player deal with the Guardians. Hoskins would have to have a pretty specific market, I can’t think he’s waiting on the other bats to sign.
  16. But again, what’s the point? I’m not swearing. I’m not singling people out. I’m posting my thoughts about the cubs on a cubs forum.
  17. But what im posting isn’t off-topic as your example certainly would be. People can react to my posts how ever they want, but it’s fruitless because every time the cubs miss on a player, or “wait the market” out to a level I disagree with, I’m going to respond if I’m irritated. It’s my right. And it just is what it is. As for last night, I agree I probably went too far. But people on here have been very, very rude for about three weeks. 17 seconds in particular seems to pop in, take a shot at someone, and then disappear. Examine his post history for countless examples of this.
  18. Again though (and I’m not trying to be confrontational or rude here at all) isn’t “bitching” about what someone else is “bitching” about the same thing? It’s a really weird hill to die on. Especially when people have valid complaints about the way this team is put together.
  19. Yankees. Giants. I like Sonny Gray so I thought that was a decent move for the cards (though their other moves sucked). Phillies locked up Nola. As I’ve said before, it’s not even the lack of moves that are alarming from the cubs. Stuff happens and sometimes there’s little movement into January. The alarming part is the leaks the last two years about how we value players, and always seem to be waiting for a players market to crash. You can’t act like that when your only advantage is that you can outspend the small market teams. Again, it’s a cubs forum. You can’t police or dictate what people post. Why that’s so upsetting to some of you, I don’t know. But for the sake of keeping the board a dignified place, it would probably be better if you just ignored the posters you disagree with.
  20. If you want to be the fan that defends the inept front office and cheap ownership at every move be my guest. I’m sure you’re exactly the type of fan the cubs love. Just don’t expect everyone to drink the kool-aid with you. Once you realize you have no say as to what people post here I think you’ll be much happier.
  21. Good stuff. You also reminded me how angry I still am we didn’t go after Harper 🤣
  22. I would have been good with Gray too.
  23. Yeah, this is true. And it’s not so much that I’m inpatient (well, maybe a little!) my concerns more lie in what’s been leaking the last few years about Jed looking for value. Obviously I’m not pining for our version of an Eric Hosmer-Padres signing. But the mega deal isn’t going away. And it would be very annoying if every year we're eliminated from the cream of the free agent crop because Jed has a self imposed years limits on free agents. Putting it another way; I’d be more than fine sitting out on the big fish this year if I knew we’d be going hard after Juan Soto next year. I’m not demanding a top tier signing every offseason. My concern is - if the reports about the cubs being out on Yamamoto are true - it appears we’re not even willing to be irrational on players that have youth on their side. There’s no perfect free agent, but if Jed is convinced 250-300 million is too much for a 25 year old ace pitcher who hasn’t hit his prime yet then we have a very idiotic man running our team.
