Since they were outrighted I think that means they already passed through waivers and can opt into free agency.

Idk man, Hoyer seems to think there's no such thing as a bad 1 year deal. No matter how terrible the player is. Never seen a pobo/gm with such an aversion for long term deals as him, seems like those last few years of the Theo reign where Ricketts refused to sign off on any additional dollars spent on payroll really scared him.

Dominic Smith will be playing 1B if the Cubs don't get Alonso. Bet on it.

Just get both Soto and Alonso. If you gotta trade Morel that is. I don't get the point of hoarding prospects and then not promoting/playing them. -

Yeah I can't find anything about him saying the Cubs won't be involved. His usatoday article today mentioned that mlb execs expect soto to be traded. -
Yeah the Nats were putting in massive deferrals if I remember correctly. Just offer him a straight up 400 mil contract

I love Morel but id def do that Soto trade. There's a reason why he's a trade piece multiple teams are inquiring on, with him settling at second base will negate a lot of that negative defensive value he's had so far in the big leagues. And many years of control to go along with it, if they give up Morel id expect only one of the the AAA fodder pieces be included in the trade like Mervis or Vazquez. -
Yeah they are going to need to have the largest offer, don't think hoyer has it in him to offer a contract over 200 mil

Don't think they'd get much more by waiting to trade him. I want him gone too just to have more resources to sign Yamasaki, seems like it's gonna be a huge bidding for him between the giants, cubs, Yankees and Mets.

If stroman opts in, you almost have to let him go. With his injury history it's also a risky to allocate all that money for him. But given hoyers affinity for handing out big dollar contracts above market value for less years on a contract, I think he's likely to exercise it. I'd rather that money go to Yamamoto

The Whole PCA trade shook their entire organization, they refused to move any of their prospects for the 2022 deadline when they were firmly in it because of how bad they were robbed by Hoyer. That might add a wrinkle to any trade because they just seem salty about it.

Yeah I wouldn't trade Morel for Alonso, maybe Alcantara plus Mervis package does it.

Seems like Hoyer is really enamored with Alonso. Would much rather have Soto, bet it's mostly a contract thing. Alonso will probably make half of what Soto will eventually sign for.

I think this team can be playoff caliber, Hoyer needs to man the horsefeathers up and hand out some big contracts. Soto remains the crown jewel, if the Padres are serious about shedding salary the Cubs should be right there to pounce. Also fire David Ross.

Yeah too bad Little wasn't utilized, season could have ended differently if Ross didn't blow up the bullpen

I'm OK with that, he's had a great year but he has his flaws and will be paid big time. Soto is the guy to get but I doubt Hoyer will want to give up prospects and then sign him to 400 mil.

Hoyer needs to go balls deep this offseason. Sign Moore, Hader, Yamamoto and then trade for Soto. Even Ross can't ruin a roster that good, right?
