    Do we expect King’s market to move before Imai signs? If so and you’re the Cubs, do you risk waiting and missing on King if Imai’s group indicates the Cubs have a shot?

    And he’s been consistent all the way through. I can buy into teams not valuing him as much as the rankings, but this combined with Password (Who imo is probably a tier below Cassie but not far off and almost identical first year production in AAA) being traded for a SP who you have to start off the conversation by saying “well he’s got some things to work with, extension, fastball, etc”, just doesn’t give me the warm fuzzies that our prospects are going to be able to bring back the haul we are hoping for.

    This all stems from last years TDL and rumored reports that a trade for Gore for example would start with one of Shaw/Horton and then you start adding one of Caissie/Mo in addition. So in theory, he would be the main piece in one of the difference maker SP trades. Now the question is have some of these teams lowered their asking price? Probably somewhat, but if one of these SP only needed Caissie/Mo as the headliner a deal would have been done already. More or less, if they sign Bregman (or another big bat) it’s probably taking Shaw as the main piece to get a frontline controlled starter.

    Hmm, on the high end we have Bregman/Olonso who make sense or at least know the Cubs have been interested in the past. Also Bichette could make some sense in the same realm of what they would do with Bregman. On the lower end, you have Goldschmidt/Hoskins as RH bats who play 1b.

    Yea it seems like the blueprint in a Bregman deal would include moving Shaw for controlled pitching. Plan A was most likely Cease (King/Valdez) and if we miss on those, revisit a Bregman deal and move Shaw for a controlled SP. Shaw + King/Valdez vs Bregman + Ryan/Cabrera/Gore ends up being pretty close in value with the edge for next years team leaning the Bregman side of the deal imo.

    Absolutely. I'm much more likely to jump in during work breaks and chat some in a mega thread over options/hopes/theories/etc.

    Mooney's latest article seems to be pointing at Mo & Caissie being the Tucker replacement (Not sure if it's an opinion piece or what he's hearing). If that's the case, we're down to what, Valdez/Suarez/King as exciting FA possibilities along with Imai/Munetaka. Throw in a few ok pen arms and there's not a lot of room for Jed to miss on the remaining guys if he's doing the heavy lifting via FA.

    Interesting. I didn't think we would have a shot on Helsley after Rosenthal reported the Tigers and others are looking at him as a possible starter. (I don't actually believe a team is going to experiment with stretching him out, just assumed there was enough chatter out there to where he likely would be out of our price range)

    This is what makes baseball so fun (Or frustrating when you're a large market but don't spend like the other large markets). 1. Do you address what most consider the biggest need and sign one of the top SP (Valdez, Cease, Suarez). Use the rest of the available capital for upgrades to the pen, bench, and marginal corner OF bat. Easier to grab a platoon bat at the deadline vs premium SP like we ran into last TDL. 2. Do you address the hole that Tucker is going to leave and instead invest in a bat (Schwarber, Alonso, Bregman). And then budget shop again in the mid tier SP market and also address pen/bench. 3. Do you swing a large trade for a Cabrera, Ryan, Gore and then add the big bat via FA. The downside of this is it completely diminishes the farm. Also, according to the rumblings from the TDL, you might not be able to swing this trade with out a Shaw or Horton (Absolutely no on Horton from me). But it does put the best team on the field for 2026. (Option 4 is the dream scenario of Ricketts spending like the big market we are, sign Valdez, sign Tucker, keep the farm mainly intact, and use assets to plug the rest of the holes)

    Below is in a down season for Cease: Ideally the Cubs could add a tweak here and there to help get his BB% down some and maybe a few more ground balls. Age 30 season is next year.

    It's a real possibility. IF it happens, I know Cubs fans are going to have a meltdown, but I also don't think it's the end of the world. They would need production from the combo of Mo/Caissie AND would need to add a horse at the top of the rotation with their large amount of cash. Also add a decent BP arm or two. If that all happens, I think we could still be a damn good team next year, especially if one of Mo/Caissie end up having a solid year at the plate.

    My blueprint would go something along the lines of Kitt as the opener (Maybe 1 hitter in the 2nd depending on the Brewers lineup) > Shota for 6ish outs (Basically until he gets to the first righty of Chourio/Contreras) > Rea for 6ish outs > Then best arms/matchups the rest of the way.

    They're for sure relaying signs from second, and unfortunately it's just part of the game. Brewers are doing it, Cubs should be doing it, Yankees have been blatantly doing it for a few weeks now and they were accusing the Blue Jays of doing the same - It's the worst when you have a splitter pitcher on the mound. Absolutely have to hide your grip. Hopefully Boyd has fixed his tipping issues, because I agree with TT on feeling like the Brewers were laying off tough change ups that normally induce a swing and weren't fooled at all on some of his breaking balls.
