  1. This lead definitely doesn't feel comfortable. I still don't really understand why they used Wesneski yesterday instead of as the opener today.
  2. BOOM Candelario. Wrecking Elder in the 1st.
  3. Hell yah Swanson. Way to jump on them early.
  4. Yah that story is just crazy and sad. He's been tired, slow, and waking up feeling hungover for over two months. He kept forgetting how many out there were on the field. His reaction time was noticeably slower and he turned into the worst hitter in baseball right after the collision. When your brains that fucked up its really hard to find a way out yourself. Yankees medical staff royally screwed this one up. I just hope he can recover, cause that's a sad way to go out. Still my favorite Cub all time.
  5. That's a great move. And only 1 year. We'll done.
  6. Dub. Those were two fun wins. Grab the series tomorrow.
  7. I know the Reds pitching is really bad, but this is still pretty amazing.
  8. They did slightly better then standing pat I guess. I think we'll probably slightly regret the win streak and not selling because I dont have much faith in the playoffs and Bellinger easily would have been the best bat on the market. But Stroman tanked his value, and Bellinger can be offered the QO. Maybe they can get lucky and pull something off. The rest of the season should be more fun atleast. Hopefully they can keep supplementing the bullpen through the farm and it finishes as a strength.
  9. About time. Those Mancini and Hosmer signings were such garbage.
  10. That's a move. I don't mind moving Velasquez at all. Hopefully they can fix Cuas. Sure hope they've still got another bullpen move coming.
  11. I'm definitely a little meh on Candelario and going after rentals. But I think he can definitely offer an upgrade down the stretch for this team. I could get behind it at the right price.
  12. I think the chances of the Cubs getting Ohtani are somewhere close to zero. But if they did come to the conclusion he was a good business investment, they might sign him, order some salary dumps, and not sign another FA for the next decade. I think the biggest issue for them would be convincing Ohtani they'd work hard to build a winner around him. I think that's a hard sell from the Ricketts if they are dropping 50 mil a year on him already.
  13. I don't think there's much chance of a Stroman trade at this point. If it was to happen I'd have to assume there would be a younger, cheaper, more controllable starting pitcher coming in before the deadline to replace him. Jed is pretty clearly limited in how much money he can take on because the Ricketts are petrified of the tax. Moving Stroman recoups some prospect capital and makes staying under the tax a little easier. But I still just can't see it happening.
  14. France and Sewald would be an intriguing package.
  15. Great to see him move up. Will be exciting to watch his progress.
  16. Works for me. The Cubs should be aiming higher then C.J. Cron.
  17. I'm not in the room with Hoyer so I can't tell you what names are popping up. I do absolutely trust that he's not going to throw away Cade Horton to bring in a reliever. Bedard would be a good addition at the right price. I've made that clear. I disagree with the idea that you should just toss away any prospects to slightly improve the bullpen on this team. They do have value. If they are asking for Cade Horton then you move on. You can typically improve the bullpen by adding around the margins and the Cubs have plenty of interesting bullpen arms coming through the system. Now if someone like Juan Soto becomes available, especially if they can get an extension done, I'd happily pack Horton's bags myself. Nobody is off the table for me. But I'm definitely not getting desperate and blowing up the farm just because a reliever is the only controllable asset being offered.
  18. I know JD and several of us on this board have been advocating trading from our prospect depth for controllable assets since atleast last trade deadline. Nobody in here is trying to hoard prospects or wanting a long rebuild. So it's hillarious to see the conversation be diverted in that direction. Many of us just think there are better controllable assetts to spend top prospect currency on then a reliever.
