  1. white sox threw the world series if any team should be cursed, it's them if any team should have non-commital fans, it's them this is easy
  2. a's lose tonight though : ( a double juuuuuuuuust over swishers head and a poor relay throw from ellis allowed a run to score in the bottom of the ninth to give the twins the win, 4-3.
  3. adam dunn = triple crown winner? IT'S NOT TOO LATE
  4. He looks a pretty good amount better running on the bases and in the field. I almost wonder if the knee was still a ways less than 100% for much of the year.
  5. I was at the game too. The gun did say 58 on two consecutive pitches, but it was definitely malfunctioning, as the two pitches were both fastballs.
  6. the a's are also 33-7 in their last 40 when joe blanton (cupcakes) out pitches johan santana, things are going good
  7. do they test for amphetamines in the minors?
  8. do you really think the cubs would want to own up to trading sammy sosa for mike fontenot?
  9. agreed, it must wreak havok on those poor souls without broadband
  10. This is getting to be one of those things that needs to be spelled out once and then stickied. PEOPLE CANNOT TELL WHO IS ON STEROIDS AND WHO IS NOT JUST BY LOOKING. BECAUSE A PLAYER IS SMALL OR LARGE DOES NOT MEAN HE IS ON STEROIDS. BECAUSE A PLAYER IS OR IS NOT A POWER HITTER DOES NOT MEAN THAT HE IS OR IS NOT ON STEROIDS. As Will Carroll often says, if we could look at players and tell who was using and who was not, we wouldn't have to spend all this money on testing.
  11. i dont know how you can say that with any certainty i dont think dawson should be in the hall, and i couldve sworn he was a cub
  12. hooray jon! hooray vance!
  13. excellent move, it will be nice to have a centerfielder on the roster again
  14. jonmdavis better figure out a way to put this on his site
  15. Believe me, I tried my best earlier in the year when I talked to you about it. :D If you drive to Avon, I'll drive the rest of the way.
  16. This also applies to Hairston, in my opinion. Even Corey's not as good as lat year defense easily outclasses Hairston. I totally agree. Just like blazing speed doesn't make you a good basestealer. And Lawton has been pretty bad recently as a corner OF regardless. Speed aside, Hairston would be better in CF. IMO, the Cubs now lack a good defensice CF, on the bench or in the lineup. Hairston and Macias are below average, and Lawton would be worse. I'd be half tempted to call corey back up and slap him on the 8 hole. I'd like to either see Corey back up like you say, or an OF of Lawton in left, Burnitz in center, and Murton in right and just hope they hit enough to make it work. It's not like Hairston's been amazing on offense either.

  18. Yes. Smith was the greatest defensive player this game has ever known i think it's pretty hard to say that with any certainty
  19. The only thing Edmonds has over Andre is that he wears eye makeup. My Jimmy, you look so cute. Andre was an MVP of the NL. Edmonds hasn't been close. Andre has far more HR, RBI, etc.. than Edmonds. Andre had more speed and used it for more SB. Andre was a feared OF who would throw you out with his great arm. Andre was selected for 8 All-Star Games, Edmonds a mere 4. Andre's teammates NEVER accused him of showboating flyballs or being a cancer in the clubhouse. Edmonds wore both lables quite well. Little wonder the Angels won the WS after Edmonds was dealt. I don't know if Andre deserves the Hall of Fame, but Edmonds is clearly not the premier CF in the NL..let alone HOF material. Not sorry. -Andre's MVP year was for a last place team, and while his season was good, it wasn't MVP worthy. He only got it because of RBI. Stastically, Edmonds' 2004 was a hell of a lot better than Dawson's MVP season. -Edmonds has a far better career OBP, AVG, SLG, and obviously OPS. Please further elaborate your "etc." you used in that post. -Uh oh! More stolen bases! Who cares? -Edmonds has a great arm too. His arm is "feared" too. -And up until now, Abreu's been in 2 all star games. I'm not impressed by number of All Star appearances. -I guess you were in the clubhouse for all of Dawson's teams then. Talk about your meaningless points, Jesus. -The Marlins won the World Series the year after Dawson retired. Coincidence? Yes. Just like it's a coincidence the Angels won after Edmonds left. Sorry. you have yet to rebuke the eyeliner accusations LOLOL I HEARD HE FANCIES MEN lolololol
  20. I was just going to post that. It's a great article, and it answers a lot of the questions people are asking here.
  21. I've read in a couple places that the A's gm (Billy Beane) called up the Reds gm (Dan O’Brien) and asked about the availability of Adam Dunn. O'Brien said that unless the name Rich Harden was going to come up, they had nothing to discuss. That was the end of that. O'Brien apparently doesn't like being a gm or something, because if he thinks the best strategy is to make insane trade offers to other teams and then do nothing, he's going to struggle. I don't understand why that is an insane offer. People are saying how great Dunn is and then expect the Reds to only ask for peanuts for Dunn. He should be the cornerstone of that team and the Reds should expect rightful compensation for a player like him. Rich Harden Would you trade Z for Dunn? Would the Reds be sane in expecting Zambrano in return for Dunn? If they don't want to trade Dunn, they're doing a really good job of it.
  22. i watched the game over the weekend too, and i couldn't believe how small they were either. baseball is a lot more fun today than it must've been back then. half the guys on both teams were just trying to bounce the ball really high and get an infield single. BORING.
  23. i cant wait until da lounge gets a plug on national television
