  1. If people say they are offended, I don't think that a bunch of white people have any right to tell them that they aren't. If these mascots were actually tributes, the white people who established them would have named them all in honor of themselves. Notre Dame Irishmen is a lousy example since it actually was a bunch of Irish people who were on the committee that picked the name or whatever. And despite that, if there were/are Irish people who were offended by the nickname, I'd support getting rid of it as well.
  2. describing things as [expletive] certainly isn't politically correct on any level. i wish you wouldn't do that.
  3. Do you really believe this? that a player's most recent 150 at bats are more important than everything else he's ever done put together? Remlinger is a bad example because he's 47 years old and obviously not any good. Hollandsworth may have had better days behind him, but Macias is 33 himself.
  4. if the tradeoff was that we could have fontenot instead of macias, but if the situation came up where we had to forfeit a game due to need of a third catcher due to injury, id still get rid of macias. when's the last time we needed a third catcher? do we have a fourth catcher? anytime we'd need a third catcher, it'd probably be in extra innings, and macias undoubtedly would've already botched an important pinch hitting opportunity earlier in the game. if macias is so valuable as a third catcher, does that mean we should never use him, just in case we should need him in the bottom of the 14th?
  5. I'll agree that the biggest problem with Macias is his usage, but that only supports the need to get rid of him. Does anyone think that Fontenot would be Dusty's clutch pinch hit bat off the bench if we lost Macias and brought him up?
  6. Agreed. I'm far from sold on him. He's far from a can't miss prospect. I would love to bring back Lawton and go get Giles, but I don't know if the Cubs would do that financially, especially since I'm assuming Nomar will be back. Now Dunn will be cheaper than Giles for at least a year, so I think the Cubs could do Dunn, and Lawton/Nomar to 1-year deals each. Or the Cubs could do Giles, Lawton and go out and trade for Lugo. let's just go crazy. giles, lawton, dunn. give short to ronny, and trade barrett and let soto play catcher. fontenot or someone else who'd like to play for free can have second. I want the least balanced team in the major leagues.
  7. Wait, you want Macias to be designated? I understand he's a popular target but I dont think you're looking at this realistically. Macias is a switch hitter, he's hitting .296, and he can play multiple positions (All outfield spots, 3rd, SS, and second). I say he's a decent man off the bench. Conversely, Hollandsworth has been a major disappointment, with the exception of a couple of weeks in June, and can only play LF. If anyone is going to be D'FA it should be Hollandsworth (especially with the Lawton on the team). My guess is that neither will be designated but Todd has largely been a non factor. 287 avg is nice, but a 303 obp is a 303 obp. Macias' average is .296 as of today (2 for 4 in the game) For the record, Macias' OBP is a mesely .311 which is still better than Holly (.302). Holla's only been marginally better than Macias this year, yes. But if you look at career numbers, there's no way you decide to cut him instead of Macias.
  8. I would be suprised if he ever makes it back to the big leagues. He's easily fooled by off-speed stuff. if he never makes it back, it's because major league gm's are stupid. minor league numbers matter, even if his first couple hundred major league at bats havent gone as well as one would hope.
  9. i cant believe that we wouldnt have heard about this. it'd be darn close to the biggest news of the year in the cubs minor league system.

  11. even if cpatt got it going he'd struggle to be an avg right fielder offensively
  12. I'm not sold on Murton. I can hardly explain how awesome it would be to have Giles and Lawton's obp in our lineup. edit: and then when we trade for dunn, obp is a strength rather than a weakness. giles will love playing cf at wrigley.
  13. bobby kielty! he had a bad game today but chavez and zito (old school a's) didn't, and they won 5-2.
  14. i cant see murton ever hitting for enough power to be compared to giles at all
  15. i liked the a's for a while and in particular made note of my fondness for them before the season so if anyone says im a bandwagon dude for the a's well that will be big trouble for you that's all im going to say
  16. It's not really the same thing. You can have poise but the team can still not have heart. Poise is being able to stick together and accept responsability. Heart is being able to play through tough times and still desire to win. You can have poise without heart, and you can have heart without poise... but this team has neither. im pretty sure the cubs lose because of poor hitting and pitching, not poor heart and poise
  17. he was getting to face cub pitching though
  18. i dont want mercker he seems happy in cincy and id feel bad for him if he had to play for the cubs
  19. but pujols will be like 47 by then (alley)
  20. BEST A'S NEWS OF ALL TIME nick swisher shaved the bottom part of his goatee off and now has an amazingly cool fu manchu
  21. i officially hate mlb extra innings the games going to be on at the same time as cubs AND a's, and given the choice, i wouldve watched felix wtg satellite dish
  22. Yeah, I'm pretty much fine with this, depending on how Neifi is used as a defensive replacement ("yes, dusty, the third inning is too soon. let's wait a little bit."). I really think Nomar's probably going to get hurt again, so we might as well try to do EVERYTHING we can to maximize the amount of playing time he can get with us.
  23. What is so funny about this statement? I guess I will take the award if you are going to hand it out though. \:D/ I would first like to thank the mods for allowing me the opportunity to post on this board. I would also like to thank my mom and Dad. Don't worry dad I hope they find a cure for being a Cub fan. I would also like to say I love you to my wife and kids. this post most certainly does not win the award
