  1. you guys are mean i went to a sox-a's game over the summer and everyone was really nice (except for one dude, but me and my sister WERE fully dressed in a's gear at a game in which the a's came from behind and won in extra innings). i dont think i really hate the sox or their fans much at all.
  2. i cant seem to get the adjusted standings for last year to come up, but if i remember correctly, yes.
  3. So 5 of the 8 position players on the Cubs are better than the Cards, and 6th one is a wash this year (Lee/Pujols). So that means that you'd only take the Cards for 2 of the 8 positions? And yet the Cards have scored 80 more runs than the Cubs. I don't get your logic. isn't wolf a cards fan? I don't know. His logic is flawed, regardless of who he's a fan of. i'd take burnitz over taguchi, barrett over molina, and a healthy nomar over eckstein. i'd also take walker over grudz (he's better in every offensive category of significance). aram and rolen will probably be a wash from here on out. i'd take pujols over lee, edmonds over anyone in the national league, and larry walker over whatever there is that's left. the fact is, the cubs have a better OPS than the cards, despiet the fact that the cards have scored 80 more runs is a testimony to either the .012 OBP advantage (and a better hitting philosophy) that they have over the cubs, or luck. bp third order adjusted standings CARDS 85-63 677 runs scored, 579 runs allowed CUBS 79-68 688 runs scored, 639 runs allowed the cards are the best team in the division, but they've been real, real lucky too. they're 9.5 games better than projected (the white sox are the only team luckier, with 9.8, and that number has been dropping for some time now). the cubs are 6.5 games worse than projected, which is third most unlucky, behind only the mets (-9.5) and rangers (-8.2).
  4. i pm'ed modzilla about changing my name and that jerk still hasnt replied
  5. Maybe in the short term, but in the long-term, both Felix Pie and Ryan Harvey---IMO---will be better then Quentin. Conor Jackson on the other hand..... Quentin hit .300/.420/.550 in AAA, Neither Pie or Harvey have approached those numbers at any level. Quentin and Jackson are basically the same player. Same age, but Quentin plays OF while Jackson is a first baseman. Quentin also has more HR power, at least for now. harvey and pie are going to have to figure out how to hit .370 if they ever want to match that obp.
  6. dum moneyball
  7. I think a lot of people thought that Farnsworth would have a good year no matter he was pitching, let alone if he went to Atlanta.
  8. Really? Sosa-.308/.377/.647 66HR 158RBI McGwire-.299/.470/.752 70HR 147RBI McGwire got ROBBED. back then i was really dumb at numbers in baseball. i remember reading a rob neyer column at the end of the season about how mcgwire should win mvp going away, and one of the numbers he used was runs created. i looked up the formula and saw how crazy it was and i printed it out showed my dad how dumb it was to think that this insane formula should be used to determine the best player instead of stats like hr and rbi.
  9. He's good, too. For whatever "Win Shares" are worth, Edmonds is the best defensively (yes, even better than Andruw Jones), and easily the best offensively (yes, much better than Jones) this year. And Edmonds isn't having a great year, in the minds of MOST Cardinal fans. Hahha, now win shares mean something to you. No one cares about gold gloves anymore, except the players and their agents. thats really a great point. in all honesty, id prefer that cubs didnt win awards or anything, as they dont mean anything, but they make the players more expensive when it comes time to re-sign them. i guess you could say that they also make the players more valuable in trades, but the cubs don't trade players until they get a bad attitude or start playing like crap, so that doesn't really apply.
  10. And how do you explain the huge vein popping out of his arm? :? one of my friends in high school had a vein on his arm like that.
  11. It's comments like this that crack me up Truffle. Career norms have been killing you this year. Maybe try trends? 2001- decent season 2002-13 bad starts, followed by death 2003-dead 2004-best season of career 2005-even better season, by a huge margin yeah thats a normal career path
  12. or we could just not care about it AT ALL and laugh at people when they try to use it as evidence of a player's defensive abilities oh wait i already do
  13. Steve Nebraska was no Johnny Utah. Or Ron Mexico. Or Michael Davis.
  14. oml dying from uproarious lafter
  15. if we're saying that guys that aren't big names should be expected to fail in the playoffs, well, do you think the cardinals are doomed?
  16. Your choice of response has proved my point. I'll be happy to let the jury decide this one. can i be on the jury? cause if so you're going to lose. the last post here doesn't make any sense. he made his case, and diamond mind has as well. he told you where to go if you want more info on diamond mind. this expert votes in favor of cubbieinexile
