  1. Dude, he's hitting .318! Oh, wait, no...that's his OBP that and huston street absoultely has to win this award. nobody realizes how good joe blanton has been this year. 195 ip, 3.55 era, 1.22 whip those who want to point out that i didnt post his k/bb ratio can feel free to do so. at least it's better than saarloos.
  2. time to mow the lawn, nick
  3. id rather play blanco everyday and let soto back him up than trade for pudge
  4. if we're manipulating things to get maddux some wins, let's just get a big lead early in a game, and sub maddux in for the starter in the 4th inning.
  5. if we could tell who was on steroids by looking at them, we wouldnt have to spend enormous sums of money on testing programs any argument with a basis in the way a player looks at any point in time is a flawed one.
  6. i love barry and the best player in 70 years thing is right, in my opinion. if he did use hgh or whatever lots and lots as has been asserted, i still dont believe they make enough of a difference to discount him to the point where he's not miles ahead of the competition
  7. im not a big fan of the pledge either way
  8. when i first got here i was way worthless and such and check me out now
  9. Am I alone in thinking that a full season of Murton next year would yield a 260/320/390 line?
  10. Absolutely. And the Dodger people are dumb enough that he might be available well before J.P. is.
  11. I think I'd like him better than Hendry, but I don't believe he'd be all that close to the top of my list.
  12. what in the hell is thom talking about im turning the game back off this is moronic
  13. people make the argument "where would this team be without this guy" all the time. that's exactly what this analysis looks at.
  14. That just means that Lee has worse teammates then the other two players. Put Lee on the Cardinals and he is not 20% of the value of team. And by the way the 20% isn't just offensive but defensive as well. the idea was just to show that even if you used the lame definition of valuable of "who has added the most to his team" d-lee still wins, even though his team is going nowhere.
  15. im such a bad fan, i know like 5 of those guys : (
  16. i've been thinking the exact same thing.
  17. British? Yeh, hi! Observant of you. Brinoch, I'm probably not ready to give on Corey yet myself. His defence alone has some value, and while his bat is a huge problem right now, maybe six months off will help him a bit. I think half of it is in the mind right now. He's a man convinced of his swing and miss fate before the pitcher's even come set. now you're just showing off with the british stuff. your next post will probably include a link to an mp3 of a recording of you saying the word "aluminum."
  18. dusty does things like play bad players and make them bat at the beginning of the lineup. this helps the cubs lose, because it costs them runs. since it costs them runs, it is reflected in stats like this.
  19. oh wow season ticket packages already on sale and at a discounted rate if i buy before december 1 hmmmmmmmmmmmm
  20. Hehehe....I figured you'd like him because of the way he looks at "new technology". Instead of flying the Cubs would be traveling by stagecoach. He may just mandate that the team go back to gloves without pockets, because "that's the way it was supposed to be". I also picture him saying that like Will Forte playing Zell Miller. hahahahhaha
  21. I think you really have to live in the Chicago area to understand the true obnoxiousness that is the average Sox fan. you're probably right, and maybe my hometown is an outlier or something, but i don't think many people from chicago understand the true obnoxiousness that is the average Cardinal fan. OR MAYBE all fans are obnoxious to fans of rival teams. i read an a's website, and boy do they ever hate giants fans.
  22. wow this argument has never been made before ill bet you were the first to think of it also i think the people who came up with it just pulled it out of their collective butt and didn't test it at all to see if there was any truth to it in fact it was probably some cub fan who secretly knew about the cardinals innate ability to occasionally get blown out but win close games and he wanted to make his fellow cub fans feel better I dont care if they tried it out or not it seems like a dumb stat to me. Sometimes stats do like and dont show stuff that is actually going on and this seems like one of those dumb stats that have no significent value. Did you ever think that the teams like the CArdinals and the Braves have better records then what they should because they have good managers who know how to win games. While a team like the cubs have a bad game manager that loses games. I dont see that taken into consideration anywhere in that formula. "he knows how to win ball games" is one of those throwaway arguments that people use when they run out of better ideas.
  23. wow this argument has never been made before ill bet you were the first to think of it also i think the people who came up with it just pulled it out of their collective butt and didn't test it at all to see if there was any truth to it in fact it was probably some cub fan who secretly knew about the cardinals innate ability to occasionally get blown out but win close games and he wanted to make his fellow cub fans feel better
  24. according to third order wins, the braves should be 78-69 and in third place. they are outpeforming their expected record by 6 games. i dont know what kind of argument you were trying to make, so i have no idea whether this helps or hurts it. EDITED because even though i dont use capital letters, i still don't like to have unnecessary commas.
  25. It'd take a pretty decent comeback for Finley to post even a .700 ops next year. He's got all of .013 points of obp on corey. And he's FORTY. if the cubs trade for finley ill commit suicide
