  1. Does he even know where all the Ricketts live? http://static4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20090819003839/muppet/images/c/c3/Oscar-can2.jpg excellent 1-2-3, guys
  2. I like that the top 3, even the low end "realistic projection" is Baez, First division all-star. Bryant first-division player, Almora above average player. And the potential grade is Perennial all-star for Baez, all-star for Bryant, and first-division/all-star for Almora. And people worry about bust rates. I think "bust" for one of these guys is, maybe one just ends up being an average ball-player. Think we have at-least 2 multi year all-stars on our hands here. that is not how prospects work
  3. it's not limiting us except instead of ellsbury we got justin ruggiano and instead of tanaka we got a bag of dandelions
  4. what is an absolute disaster? losing 90-100 games every year with dwindling attendance and a bottom-10 payroll and no ability to improve your own ballpark with your own money tells me we already have an absolute disaster. i know that it's not particularly likely the cubs move out of their current location any time soon, but things are pretty terrible at wrigley right now. everything should be on the table.
  5. the problem with doing stuff besides signs and jumbotrons is that those are the things that will actually bring in new money. the rest of the renovations are necessary and awesome but will basically amount to spending money without any immediate return (besides improving the value of the property i guess, but ricketts doesn't care about that unless this whole endeavor was a big scam designed to get him on some stupid hgtv "flip that house" show). i agree entirely as far as the litigation excuse being lame.
  6. the ivy is actually gone now. one of the leaves blocked the view of the field from a rooftop 6 blocks away so tom had to tear it all out and replace it with a field-wide advertisement explaining why it's dumb to buy tickets to a cubs game when you can sit a mile away and pay 150 dollars for chicken wings.
  7. all the casual fans are already gone. anyone still paying attention to this godforsaken team is locked into place, at least until baez strikes out in 40% of his aaa pa and bryant takes a fastball to the skull and gets immediate-onset cte named after him.
  8. i'd be thrilled to sign ubaldo even for significantly more than that. the idea that we're going to rollover unused payroll from this year to the next is a farce. go get someone. anyone.
  9. i could be misremembering, but i think there were quotes at the convention from either kenney or ricketts that buying out the contract was basically impossible due to the fact that all the rooftop owners had such varied interests in what they'd want.
  10. So take one of the few sure things on our roster (a reliable starting pitcher) and turn him into another risk and convince the top available free agent to sign with a 65 win team for 80% of what everyone else is offering
  11. i like the your name or your brains thing a lot. that said, the real argument is probably that this is why it's stupid to put your whole offseason on the hopes that you can sign one guy, especially if you've turned yourself into a hilarious joke team that no one wants to play for given any other options.
  12. i don't know if you're being serious, but agreed. just move to wherever you can get the best deal. would've been nice to renovate and have a real park, but it's not going to happen. time to do anything else.
  13. What'd they say? rooftops cost us 20million dollars a year rooftops are a drag on the team rooftops are the same as people watching showtime through your window and the city won't let us stop them like we'd like
  14. Man, if there was some sort of participation trophy for effort we'd have it on lock. Unfortunately who gives a [expletive] if we "finished second". Stunning that a terrible team wasn't able to convince a guy to play here instead of in NY for the same money and a somewhat decent team. Apparently our wave after wave of prospects pitch wasn't convincing. We'll win more games over the life of Tanaka's deal than the Yanks will. Even with us sucking in 2014. And 2015. If Tanaka opts out after 4 I'd bet on the yankees I agree with that, but Tanaka will have to be very, very good to opt out of 3/67 at 29. If he's a 4 WAR type, it'll be an interesting decision. If Javy and KB are day 1 starters and we added one of Scherzer, Homer, or Masterson, plus get an OFer with a package starting with Vogelbach and Alcantara, I think we're a .500+ team in 2015, which I'd say puts us in the same win area as the Yanks. i am very excited to learn that if a bunch of things that won't happen happen we might win 80 games two years from now
  15. We're a mess? I think there are a lot of teams that would like to be in the position the Cubs are in. A great minor league system and big TV dollars about to come in. we're a mess if you care in the slightest about winning games the next two years.
  16. so frustrated. hopefully theo has learned his lesson and won't let his next team bottom out so hard. i really hate rooting for this team.
  17. Should we be worried that his photo is blurry??? nice. i also would've accepted a light photoshop suggesting he'd shown up at like blackhawks camp or something.
  18. any updates on who will be in trouble if tanaka starts?
  19. Good Morning WHY IS IT A GOOD MORNING, BECAUSE YOURE GOING TO THE YANKEES? IS THAT IT (^^) could be construed as a picture of a bear. certainly not a yankee or dodger.
  20. Either by Friday or last Wednesday or whatever Looper [expletive] someone wants to tweet next. we're getting him tomorrow at 6pm but it's actually the 55 year old version of him and the dodgers get the 25 year old one
  21. 1) cubs 2) mysterious letterbomb with a tennessee postmark
  22. Because of three tweets? Or did he write a terrible article somewhere? That "all our guys are injured" tweet is typical of his tweeting while one of his teams is losing. He's a known and self-confessed terrible NE/Boston fan; this isn't news. it's nothing new, but i still hate reading it. especially since he basically never tweets any more otherwise. came close to unfollowing (aka greatest indignity known to man).
