  1. Well, I know we don't "need" one but we could darn well use one where before the D-back series I would have been just fine with 2 of 3 in Colorado.
  2. Yeah, we crapped the bed against the D-Backs. Gallen has been good most of the year but had scuffled pretty badly the 3 games previous to the one against us and their bullpen had been pretty bad all year, and we can't even scratch out a run. We just needed 2 runs to win each of those games Friday and Saturday and could not do it. Struggled against a bad pitcher on Thursday. Just can't have that with the stakes this high. I would have taken 2 of 3 vs. The Rockies a week ago but now we've put ourselves in position where you feel like we need a sweep.
  3. I'm thinking they weren 't sure how good Wicks was gonna be.
  4. Yeah, folks just kept talking about how bad the team was on here and elsewhere - all the while the underlying numbers were screaming that they were not. We had some unfortunate decisions of hoping a couple of washed vets would bridge us to next year at first and it took a while to figure out and use the bullpen, plus Fulmer got much better and honestly, at least IMHO, Rossi just flat out lost us some games early I don't think most managers would have with certain lineup decisions and a couple of in-game decisions. But we figured some things out, got rid of the guys Rossi kept thinking he had to play, and we figured out the bullpen issues for the most part and hey....this team ain't that bad!!
  5. Again it's all relative, I'd have to dig into the 6 to 9 you just can't look at it in a vacuum and say it's a big drop, which is what was done IMHO in the original article, As for the Ricketts i have enough issues of my own to correct before I tee off on anyone as a human being. I'll leave that to the rest of you.
  6. And playing first AGAIN. Just cause you got away with it the last 2 times don't make it right.
  7. Totally agree, it's cool to crap on the Ricketts - so one is usually safe in doing so and no one looks below the surface at arguments that blame them for anything. As you point well, attendance in different eras is a relative stat and in comparison to the rest of baseball it's not that much of an outlier as was presented. I live in another state and I assure you I'm definitely NOT among the "richest of the rich", but I attended 3 series at Wrigley this year and loved every minute of every visit. My gameday experience has not been diminished. Some of the Rickett additions I like, some I don't like at all but those have not scarred me to the point where it affects my enjoyment even in the slightest.
  8. It should not be surprising, the media that covers the Cubs and are paid to ask questions to him leave a LOT of questions unasked.
  9. I think your concerns are warranted. in this respect - I have no issue with Steele coming out to pitch the 8th. I have a huge concern with no one warming up at the start of the inning. The DP was awesome, Steele is a DAWG! but we've seen scenarios a few times this year in similar circumstances where we were not so fortunate and not having someone warming to the laymen like me....seemed to be a no brainer. But, what do I know? The theory that a pitcher should not pitch 30 innings past what he pitched the previous year is a Tom Verducci theory. I think Tom Verducci is a good baseball guy, But I can tell you his theory is NOT universally agreed upon. That's a whole other discussion. But not having someone warning is a legit issue for debate and IMHO Rossi should have had someone warming.
  10. Wow, sure seemed a lot harder than that in real time.
  11. In fairness he absolutely CRUSHED that ball to 3rd that he got doubled up on.
  12. I thought we needed to go at least 8-4 in that stretch and I don't think that was at all unreasonable. What I did not expect and I don't think anyone including Brewer fans, expected the Brewers to do what they did. Now there were a couple of games of the 4 we lost that one coud argue Rossi crapped the bed, but I know we can play that game the other way and debate that all night and get nowhere, so I won't. But 8-4 is acceptable, now a crucial stretch all against teams we are vying against is upon us and it will tell the tale.
  13. I would say that's where the producer comes in and tell the field reporter find a way to end this and cut back to live action. You pay and train your talent, or at least in my view you should, to be able to move the broadcast along and at this level I would think you should have the talent to be able to do it diplomatically.
  14. Absolutely, they want to present a national type broadcast IMHO to try to draw in the casual fan nationally. But again, baseball is regional - or more to the point people tune in to watch their favorite team. I want to see the Cubs. I'm not tuning in to any other MLB games unless it affects the Cubs. I'm not going to tune in to Rangers/Twins just to hear witty banter. Nor do I think fans outside Cub rooting interests are going to tune in to Boog and JD to hear Seinfeld references.....as much as I love them personally.
  15. I do think there is a place for it - like when it's a blowout, or when there's a pitching change, dead time, etc. But in tight, meaningful games and situations, when they are talking about Fabio's fielding percentage - that's not what I want to hear.
  16. I think what Boog brings is what Marquee wanted, a national type play-by-play guy to present a national type broadcast. And it's not Boog's fault, he is what they want him to be I just disagree with going in that direction in the first place. Baseball is regional - it always will be and to not be able to see that is curious. We don't want to hear about your favorite cheeses and shoes, we want to hear about the game and our players.
  17. He seems to like to throw that slider as much or more than the fastball and he will hang one or two an outing. Sometimes he gets away with it, sometimes he does not.
  18. Well, I get the thought of the article, it should be a no brainer.
  19. Boog and Girardi should never work together. It's so obvious they don't like each other it's cringeworthy. Sutt I can only take in small doses. He tells the same grandson Gunner stories over and over and he overly praises all Cub players to the point that it strains his credibility in that regard. He is capable of good insight when he gets off that schtick. I thought the comment Re: Hendricks command being his biggest issue since he came back - while it would seem fairly obvious watching him miss his spots by so much at times - none of the other analysts brought it up - Rick did.
  20. Been there, done that - saw the movie. I gotta say disagree.
  21. Yeah,, whether you are a process oriented guy or results oriented, the last two series have not been aesthetically pleasing, Process - Offense really struggled and floundered way too much the last 5 games. Pitching was not very sharp but managed to do just enough to avoid total embarrassment. Results - 3-2 is bare minimum of what we had to do. Good news - we get a chance at getting it right starting tomorrow in Detroit.
  22. And they doled out a lot of long contracts that won't age well. Reportedly serious locker room issues on that team.
  23. And your throw him an 0-2 cement mixer instead of a pitch out of the zone. Alzolay showed how it's done.
