    Yes that we had to play 3 in San Diego even though we had the better regular season record still galls me.

    Honestly, I can do without Boog. I'll be diplomatic and leave it at that. Would love to see JD - but I really like Ben MacDonald as a color analyst so not that big an issue just because of that.

    Ben MacDonald is very good.

    Look no further than going out and getting Tanner Scott and Kirby Yates. There bullpen was a weakness last year so this was to fix it - but it's been worse and both of these guys have been in a word - terrible. The Cubs have in turn gotten multiple bargain basement bullpen arms who are better.

    And this is what many of us want the Cubs to be. Of course, the Cubs take it to the other extreme. Maybe some middle ground would be nice? We are playing another team this week who before their t.v. contract imploded, dished out several huge - long term contracts. They have had more success than the Mets for sure. But ask their fans and they are disappointed with their regular season this year - and they missed the playoffs in 21 and 23....so I guess the moral is big spending doesn't always work out. But at least it means you are trying. But when it doesn't work so well the inevitable - we're paying all that money for this??? - comes out.

    I agree here. I think Green and Abbot both will be pretty tough and match up well with Yamamoto and whoever else the Dodgers start. And the Dodgers bullpen really sucks even worse than the Reds bullpen, but they may do what they did last year and use a starter or two in the pen for these games? Reds don't have as much hitting as the Dodgers and that may in the end be the difference.

    Green and Abbott should scare any lineup. But managers are so scared to go third time through the lineup - the Reds pen sucks so it's on Francona.

    It really is great to see Seiya pulling ball in the air again - if he's found it and can give us what he gave us pre-break that will be huge. And yes with PCA and Busch also coming around - we sure need that with Horton out as you say.

    I'd say - not with that bullpen....but their bullpen was pretty bad last year and somehow found their stride post season. And their wily vets appear to be aging, but yeah you are right, they probably have one more good run in em. They should be favored until proven otherwise.

    Actually the Astros are losing at such a high clip the Tigers are still in the drivers seat for that last WC berth.

    And De La Cruz is hitting .206 with a .571 OPS his last 25 games.

    So no dip in velocity or no noticeable change in pitch shape? Has he changed the frequency that he throws certain pitches? Your guess is sequencing, and if it's just that simple it gives me at least some hope. But I don't feel great starting him in the playoffs the way he's pitched down the stretch.

    I agree, some have said the Phillies are, but their bullpen is bottom third in baseball by most every metric, they lost their best pitcher for the year and while Schwarbs is having a career year, their lineup is aging and much like the Cubs lineup has been prone to some prolonged hitting droughts. Once could argue they are the favorite - but powerhouse....I don't think so. The Dodgers bullpen is horrific and they have some still good but aging every day talent as well. And the Brewers - I don't think anyone understands how they are doing it but until they do it in the post season I don't think they'll be considered a powerhouse or anything of the sort.

    The term "Moribund Franchise" seems made for them. As much as we complain about ours, man thank goodness I'm not an Angels fan!!

    Oh, it's definitely a creeper vibe all the way. If he's not trying to belittle his broadcast partner he's creeping on T-Mac.

    I'll say this....it looks like we'll probably win 91-93 games - somewhere in that neighborhood. If you'd given me that before the season started I'd have taken it....even with Steele. I'll always have certain issues and disagreements with our manager over 162 games, that's perfectly reasonable for any rational fan. But I do think he was more involved in the personnel decisions, and all other decisions after kind of getting the lay of the land last year. And I think he's handled the bullpen very well. I'd give him a B+ at worst.

    No sure if there is a slight dip in velocity or slight change in pitch shape or what, but I think many expected him to have issues pitching effectively, or even at all - at this point in the season, because as we all know he hasn't pitched anywhere near this much since 2019.

    Padres are having it rough too. 6-9 in their last 15 games so even though we are treading water we were able to stay arms distance from them to this point. Of course they are playing the Rockies at home right now, so.....

    You are correct, sorry I forgot about the first round by for the top 2 seeds. Probably nobody wants to play the Giants right now is my overriding point - they are the hottest team in baseball right now.

    I can tell you one thing - the Brewers are hoping to hell the Mets can hold off the Giants for that final Wild Card Spot.

    Man, feels like to me the end of the Theo era was the same.

    One wonders if he has hit the proverbial wall. He hasn't pitched this many innings, or anything close to it in - what?? 6 years. It's been a concern of mine all year for both he and Horton....could they pitch effectively into September given this fact?

    Ha! yes and it was mutual. Is it possible Marquee thought the open mutual disdain was entertaining?

    They have certainly given Cohen the opportunity, but the chemistry is just bad with he and JD who seems to be as get along a guy as there is, running that back IF and that's a big IF, Boog does not return. It would be like forcing Girardi and Boog together who obviously did not like each other and they did that waaaay too many times.
