  1. Probably in the same boat as a couple of our starters, there is concern over how many innings are in that arme this year. What are the most innings he's pitched in a year in the minors?
  2. I'm going to repeat my main concerns - and that's that I have real doubt that Boyd and Horton can make it to October and/or maintain their effectiveness given their more recent past pitching workloads prior to this year. I think not having a contingency for that very real possibility would be borderline negligence.
  3. Again, will Boyd still be pitching in October. For me that's a very legit if and has to be considered and a very good possibility he will not. If we do not proceed with that in mind, it would be a big mistake IMHO. Horton too for that matter.
  4. 1. Starting Pitching Few fan bases love to nitpick the notion of a playoff-caliber starter more than Cubs fans—which is particularly odd, given that the Cubs are not a team who routinely even makes it to October. The idea that anyone should feel nervous about giving the ball to Imanaga or Boyd because of their lack of overpowering sheer stuff, or to Cade Horton because of his lack of experience, is foolish. Still, this comes in as the top need for the team, and it's not even especially close. My main concern is not how good Boyd is, it's whether or not he'll still be pitching in October given that he hasn't pitched over 100 innings in 6 years. And I can't get past it. It's not that I'm nervous giving him the ball, I'm nervous about whether not he'll be around to give the ball too.
  5. My concern is if Boyd can make it to October, not having pitched over 100 innings since 2019? I mean, I know they measure things differently these days in monitoring how many pitches and innings a pitcher can go, but I can't help but be concerned that when you have already exceeded a number you have not hit in 6 years, how much will you have left in September?
  6. I was honestly underwhelmed with their lineup. Judge is a generational freak, but Stanton and Goldie are absolutely both past their primes and Chisolm looked lost at the plate most of the time, Volpe is hitting worse than Shaw and they keep throwing him out there. Belli is a good fit for that park and has hit well lately after a very rough start but, I ain't gonna lie, even after the 3 HR game he really does not strike fear in me when he comes to the plate, really liked the guy here but we know what he is. The other guys not even sure who they are.
  7. I ain't gonna lie I was legit concerned after his last start. The Twins were hitting rockets all over the joint - it was a minor miracle he only gave up two runs. But man he was money today. Made Judge look silly. As for the Brewers they are gonna be tough all year with that starting staff the have but they ain't keeping up the pace they are on now - baseball has a way.
  8. Yes that short porch is akin to what the Crawford boxes in Houston are for a righty - cheap homers to be found there....of course that goes both ways.
  9. He called out the defense last night when we botched the relay - and you very, very rarely hear JD say anything even bordering on critical about the players or coaches....but he flat out said they have to communicate. And I do love that when Boog starts his I'm smarter than you stuff JD just plays dumb and makes a joke out of it to diffuse it.
  10. We looked like we had no energy. The mindless defensive lapses last night speak to me as perhaps a bit of lack of focus? Regardless those were two very disappointing efforts all the way around.
  11. Honestly, I expected Berti to be decent contributor. He started games in the playoffs for the Yankees last year, has speed and has a history of being about league average and a good contact guy. Has not shown any of that outside the speed here.
  12. I can't argue with you there, it was just my take that of the worst trades in Cubs history....not sure I'd have it as high.....but yeah I liked Madlock.
  13. I think it's tough for us to remove ourselves from the passion of being a Cubs fan to see other good teams struggle during a 162 game season....hell even more than us. The Mets and Phillies have both had much worse stretches than any we've had this year and both recently were swept by the Pirates. The Dodgers have looked like a cellar dwelling team the last 6 games and have been emasculated in their own building!! Still hard to watch the Cubs forget to hit and make boneheaded defensive plays that cost runs the last two. It doesn't help to say other good teams struggle to, at least it doesn't help me....but it's true.
  14. One could argue that if Murcer were playing with Parker, Stargell and Tekulve, he would have too, but that's pure speculation. Madlock was better than Murcer no doubt, but Murcer did hit 27 homers in 77 he was not a terrible player.
  15. I thought Bobby Murcer was pretty good as a Cub? Maybe not, i was very young but he was one of my favorite players in the late 70's. At least in 77 he was good, certainly better than Ian Stewart.
  16. interesting, did not realize it took that long for him to blossom. So I know Lou Brock is always considered the worst....what are some others that are worse.
  17. Where does his trade for Ian Stewart and Casey Weathers rank among the worst ever made by the Cubs?
  18. They've been playing Jed's song - outperforming projections....for that whole decade too. Got to beat them when we play them to slay that dragon! But last night was maybe one of the most disappointing performances all year. He'll Shota was very fortunate only to have given up two runs they were hitting rockets off him all night.
  19. Yeah, this disappointment I had in how we performed in that playoff left such a bad taste in my mouth that really tarnished the memory of a really good regular season. I to this day really believe the pressure of the expectations to end the curse really got to this team. I can still remember watching the team in the dugout and the body language, it seemed to me, screamed that the players were very tight.
  20. Rea pitched 167 innings last year for a team that won 93 games and won the division going away and had an ERA in the low 4-ish area. Most of us, including me, scoffed a bit at the signing, but he was very serviceable on a playoff team last year and was more than serviceable earlier this year - he was very good!! Now do I want him starting a playoff game? But he is a solid MLB starter.
  21. I thought two months ago we were going to need to get two starters at the deadline and I still do. I know they have changed the way they look at and determine the number of innings and number of pitches these guys can throw, but still I have a hard time feeling confident that Horton or Boyd can pitch the number of innings it takes to get through the season.
  22. I thought I got your point - Hader is not invincible - right? I agree.
  23. The game Friday night Hader only faced Happ but Happ hit a laser to center, but it found a glove of course.
  24. Good for Javy, he had really hit rock bottom, to the point that I think if he did not start producing early this year he was gonna be DFA'd. Comeback story of the year.
  25. Beers were that or more in Houston this past weekend.
