  1. I hear this but that's kinda what we've all been waiting and hoping for this year and yes it is finally happening, but it may have taken too long. So mostly playing it all back and hoping for the same thing.....mostly the same guys to play to their reasonably expected levels....it just seems like we're treading water. Now Paredes is a factor, and I hope he can continue to play to his numbers of the last 3 years, but is that enough?
  2. Agreed, this is probably the last series of the year where you will likely get the best from most of their players, and they lit up Taillion pretty good last times. Expect as good an effort as can be from them.
  3. I think more of the awkwardness comes from Boog setting him up and the fact that he doesn't like him is the reason he's setting him up. No reason to do that other than spite and to me that's awkward for two guys who have to work together side-by-side for 3 hours. It's unfathomable to me Marquee keeps putting them together. They only have about 15 other options to choose from.
  4. Justin Steele, I think he maxes out on his ability more than anyone on the team.
  5. I heard Boog do a college basketball game last year and he was not near as condescending and domineering with opinions. I think he feels much more the expert in baseball and tends to want to be both color analyst and play-by-play guy. Someone like JD who seems to have almost no ego in that regard, it can be o.k. But with a former manager who thinks he knows better it leads to the awkward, cringeworthy broadcasts we get when those two are together.
  6. Especially with that rotation, outside of Gray and even he's starting to struggle some, and their two bell cow stars aging - not so gracefully.
  7. I can't believe their still pairing those two together. It's so obvious they don't care for each other it's awkward for everyone - especially us!
  8. Look man, that was a gut punch so I get every emotional response out there. Passion is the true enemy of reason so passionate/unreasoned discourse here is not surprising at all. Myself for instance, after that inexplicable display of little league level defense cost us a win - I hear Boog comparing it to Thursday like it was the same thing. That set me off!! No...No.....No Boog, I defend you when others come after you - This was not AT ALL like Thursday!! Thursday we EARNED it. We got clutch hard hits off a top level closer....something we've done little of this year but it was legit. This one was today a by-product of a two defensive plays that defy explanation from professionals!! It was not at all like what happened Thursday. That analysis was a little league as defensive faux-pas's that cost us this win.
  9. I hear ya, I've just waited on enough of these underlying numbers guys and what could they be or would they be guys that never really pan out. Schwarber is an outlier. This guys has put up pretty darn good numbers over 3 seasons. That's something many players that run through the majors never do.
  10. Agreed, they are about the same age and one has produced at the major league level at a fairly significantly better clip than the other. Now I hear it said that Parades' underlying numbers say his production is a bit suspect while we've been hearing all Morel's underlying numbers show just pure bad luck, at least until the last month where even that excuse is not as valid. I've been through enough of these underlying numbers things to where I'm tired of waiting and hoping on those to come around, I'm good with choosing actual production.
  11. It bothers me that guys like Madrigal and Mastro seemed to put in short but concentrated work and became fairly good defenders at 3B and Morel can't seem to improve there much at all.
  12. I wish I could too, he'll be an all-time favorite of mine for as long as I'm around. But when are Assad, Wicks and Brown coming back? Need 'em all cause I still don't think we can trust Hayden right now either.
  13. I had nowhere near the anxiety for those two games as these two.
  14. yeah, the last two games have been about as nerve-racking and hard to watch as any back-to-back games in a while.
  15. Brad Wieck 2.11 ERA and .98 WHIP in 21.1 innings in Iowa? Just sayin'.
  16. Yeah, the stat nerds keep saying it's not sustainable....well, the sample size is pretty large now!!
  17. I think we all know who Ian is by now. A solid player MLB player, but will probably never be anything more than that. And yes I agree on the defense, the Gold Gloves are more of a reflection of the relative talent at his position not necessarily defensive excellence.
  18. He does not hit for power and he does not walk, and no matter who you match him up against, he probably never will. So he IMHO needs to do what these days is not valued much at all by sabermageeks - hit for high average to justify continuing to play him. Yes, there is some value to a high contact rate, but not as much if it's ground balls to second and 300 foot fly balls.
  19. Yeah, Pham has some talent, but he's been a locker room issue at times over his career.
  20. IMHO Madrigal's defense is not the reason he cannot or should not be an everyday 3rd basemen - he was our best defensive option easily there last year - arm strength notwithstanding. I do think Horner could play third and play it very well, probably even better than Madrigal defensively, but he already sacrificed once for the team, tough ask for him to do it again, especially after winning a gold glove at his position.
  21. Agreed 1908. The bat was never daunting but at least he provided power, but last year even that trended down pretty significantly making me think he's seen his best years at the plate and things are probably trending downward. And a 6 year deal....I just can't see that being a good thing.
  22. Even in the worst of times I'm thankful to be a Cub fan. I still look forward to my two annual trips to Wrigley each year with as much anticipation as almost anything I will do and thankful to have a forum to discuss Cubs baseball here with Cub fantatics just like myself.
  23. Thanks for the info 1908, I had knew he'd played "some" third but no idea he's had that many innings. He kind of reminds me of Soriano a bit....a very streaky hitter with power that K's a lot and struggled defensively both as an infielder and an outfielder.
  24. I did hear Carter Hawkins say just the other day he'll work at 1st and 3rd, but it does seem apparent the Cubs don't think he can play third, no matter how much work he gets there. What is it that the Cubs are seeing to make them believe this so seemingly strongly?
  25. OK HDI I'll make the same deal with you I made with squally - fair enough, or am I projecting again?
