  1. And your throw him an 0-2 cement mixer instead of a pitch out of the zone. Alzolay showed how it's done.
  2. Look at the games though. First of all you just can't discount a 7-game streak - it happened and they competed well during the 4-9 generally and Singer you didn't mention - if we lose this game they'll point to his ERA, but since the ASB he has been good, You can say yesterday should not have been close and I would not disagree, but ultimately, IMHO that game was lost on the margins due to very questionable managing decisions. Now you can argue it should not come down to that but it did and the dicisions were definitely up for criticism.
  3. Totally agree. Early in the year we were good vs. lefties but the last couple of months the lineups vs. lefties HAVE NOT WORKED! Time to re-think that broken strategy for all the reasons you outlined.
  4. Royals 11-9 in their last 20 - Singer very soled since the ASB. Gotta just go out and take this can't rely on the Royals suck theme - remember the Cubs finished strong last year -even swept the Phillies in Sept. when the Phillies had everything to play for. Start hitting the ball - quit losing games on the margins with curious lineup decisions and playing guys in the field at positions they can't and should not be put in positions to play! This has happened too damn much this year and needs to stop!
  5. It is curious - I know there is a school of thought among sabermatricians and statheads that batting order if fairly insignificant but Rossi has flip-flopped almost everyone around in the batting order so he seems to think there is at least some significance to it, but other than Tauchman pretty much a lock as leadoff when he starts, not other player has been as solidified in one spot as Happ has been at the third spot.
  6. Capturing the innocence and exuberance of my joy, Morel rounds the bases like a little leaguer who has never excelled at this level. Well said sir
  7. I think he has the work ethic and coachability as well as the athleticism and skills to learn to play 3B at the very least at a serviceable level if not better. Next offseason start him there and leave him there.
  8. And leverage situation have gotten higher and higher as time has gone so for one of my buddies who wants to say it's because it's all low leverage, it was for a minute, but not anymore.
  9. Can't be emphasized enough. 3 K's with the bases juiced - including making Roberts look silly.
  10. Yeah and I thought the fly to Happ in the first should have been a catch. But we gotta score more than 3 runs!!
  11. the only Zobrist I know of is the one 35+ one who played for the Cubs, never saw him enough to judge before but I saw him enough for form an opinion of him defensively after and this was my observation. I have no reason to doubt your high praise pre-Cub days and I have nothing but respect for Zobrist contribution. I just think the degree to which his defensive prowess at multiple positions "As a CUB" is a bit exaggerated and overplayed. And if you care to see I conceded even the past his defensive prime Zobrist was better defensively than Morel, and I never compared their bats.
  12. I never thought Zobrist was above average at any position he played in the field, I think that gets overplayed in the media and by fans. In fact IMHO he was mediocre as an outfielder and while reliable at second his range was lacking compared to those he was replacing. I remember screaming about it during games back then. But yes, Morel has not improved at any of the defensive positions he's played outside of second base and Zobrist was a better defender as a veteran player here at positions they both played than Morel is now at the tender age of 24.
  13. Yeah, not being a weed guy I'm not great on the signs but I've seen this referenced many and varied times by folks who I have to assume are in tune with the signs.
  14. I was at that series and one thing that stuck out is - it was the biggest number of visiting fans I'd ever seen at Wrigley and I've seen the Cubs play all but about 5 or 6 teams at Wrigley. And you couldn't really tell until the Blue Jays did something good becaue they wear the same color blue as the Cubs.
  15. I agree their announcers are hit or miss, and more miss. But is it any worse than listening to two guys who obviously don't like each other (Boog and Girardi) try to prove who the smartest guy in the room is
  16. Yeah, I had several issues both with the lineup and in game coaching decisions tonight - I thought bringing in Wesneski when he did was a real head scratcher, given his issues with lefties. But ultimately you have Happ (why is he still hitting 3rd) and Morel crapping the bed twice with RISP, Swanson all of a sudden in New York looking like Baez and he and Belli both swinging at ball 4 in the 8th. There were several opportunities to overcome what I think were bad decisions and honestly against the guys who were pitching we should have, so more on the players. And I don't want to hear the 16 games in a row stuff - this time of year everyone is a bit tired. Miss me with that.
  17. The Cubs were emasculated when the Reds came to Wrigley back on Memorial Weekend. It would be nice to return the favor with one more decisive win tonight.
  18. And their outfield hasn't been much better.
  19. I can remember folks pimping hard hit rate for Bote for 2 years - it never turned into equivalent production. I know Boog is in love with hard hit rate as a tell all metric, but I've seen enough examples to where it just isn't the tell all for me. Dude is producing and he's hitting the ball over the wall.
  20. Gordon.....is that you?😀
  21. It was a hold your breath moment every time a ball was hit to him out there for me.
  22. I only knew him through the podcast he did with Kap but you get a much better idea of who they are when you hear them. He was very political and very heavy-handidly one sided politically - and was especially outspoken during Covid - and I had to quit listening to that podcast because that's not why I listen - I can go to 100 different podcasts if that's what I wanted to listen to and I told them as much in the comments.....he kept on so I moved on - I'm sure they could have cared less.
  23. And I'm good with that. Dude had some hate in him that always clouded his credibility. But apparently still breaking Cub news?
  24. I know BA is an outdated stat that few give credence to anymore, but for someone who rarely walks or hits for power like Madrigal, it's important. He almost has to hit .300 or more to justify playing him anywhere.
