    I think it's tough for us to remove ourselves from the passion of being a Cubs fan to see other good teams struggle during a 162 game season....hell even more than us. The Mets and Phillies have both had much worse stretches than any we've had this year and both recently were swept by the Pirates. The Dodgers have looked like a cellar dwelling team the last 6 games and have been emasculated in their own building!! Still hard to watch the Cubs forget to hit and make boneheaded defensive plays that cost runs the last two. It doesn't help to say other good teams struggle to, at least it doesn't help me....but it's true.

    One could argue that if Murcer were playing with Parker, Stargell and Tekulve, he would have too, but that's pure speculation. Madlock was better than Murcer no doubt, but Murcer did hit 27 homers in 77 he was not a terrible player.

    I thought Bobby Murcer was pretty good as a Cub? Maybe not, i was very young but he was one of my favorite players in the late 70's. At least in 77 he was good, certainly better than Ian Stewart.

    interesting, did not realize it took that long for him to blossom. So I know Lou Brock is always considered the worst....what are some others that are worse.

    Where does his trade for Ian Stewart and Casey Weathers rank among the worst ever made by the Cubs?

    They've been playing Jed's song - outperforming projections....for that whole decade too. Got to beat them when we play them to slay that dragon! But last night was maybe one of the most disappointing performances all year. He'll Shota was very fortunate only to have given up two runs they were hitting rockets off him all night.

    Yeah, this disappointment I had in how we performed in that playoff left such a bad taste in my mouth that really tarnished the memory of a really good regular season. I to this day really believe the pressure of the expectations to end the curse really got to this team. I can still remember watching the team in the dugout and the body language, it seemed to me, screamed that the players were very tight.

    Rea pitched 167 innings last year for a team that won 93 games and won the division going away and had an ERA in the low 4-ish area. Most of us, including me, scoffed a bit at the signing, but he was very serviceable on a playoff team last year and was more than serviceable earlier this year - he was very good!! Now do I want him starting a playoff game? But he is a solid MLB starter.

    I thought two months ago we were going to need to get two starters at the deadline and I still do. I know they have changed the way they look at and determine the number of innings and number of pitches these guys can throw, but still I have a hard time feeling confident that Horton or Boyd can pitch the number of innings it takes to get through the season.

    I thought I got your point - Hader is not invincible - right? I agree.

    The game Friday night Hader only faced Happ but Happ hit a laser to center, but it found a glove of course.

    Good for Javy, he had really hit rock bottom, to the point that I think if he did not start producing early this year he was gonna be DFA'd. Comeback story of the year.

    No doubt Statos - no way some of our guys keep this up. It's just a matter of who and how well CC can manage the inevitable regression.

    I was interested to see that if being paired with Cliff, Boog would tone down his I'm smarter than you routine. He did tone it down some but not completely.

    Getting more swing and miss now than earlier in the year, which pleases me. Dude is learning how to use that high octane stuff of his.

    And three right handers pitching against us for Cleveland....correct?

    I can't disagree, but I will say Shaw was finally starting to hit the ball hard, the last two games of the Cardinal series and two games against the Stros.....then he sat for two guys who have hit less than he has at his worst.

    Ha, yeah Tal's Hill was dangerous. But the Crawford boxes have always yielded very cheap home runs. I question the line distance even being 315. First time I went Lance Berkman hit what I thought was an opposite field pop up and it landed in the seats.

    I was there Friday and Saturday and there were AT LEAST 3 homers that would not have been in most parks those two games. That's why Parades was a great pick up for them. I imagine he might hit 10 this year that would not be homers in Wrigley. The one he hit Friday would have been caught 40 feet in front of the wall in Wrigley.

    I had much more of a problem with him leaving Taillon in once the score got to 5-5 versus the Cardinals. My main concern now is we can't hit lefties anymore. At what point does great in the clubhouse (Turner) justify being our platoon option at first and not moving on to look for something better? Even our righties can't hit lefties outside of Seiya!!

    Yep, we left alot of chicken on the bone - too.....should have really had double digit runs.....but I ain't complainin!!

    Exactly - Mets, Phillies, Yanks have all recently had brutal stretches, worse than ours to this point actually. It's just when you're in it - it's brutal to watch.

    The warm weather seems to have had an adverse affect on our starters.

    For the Schwarber thing - yes, it's easy in hindsight....but at the time, there was not all that much angst about it in my memory. At the time his market was about as bad as it was ever in his career, he was really bad that Covid 60 games. I have no clue, but I'm willing to bet they would have taken any decent offers had they gotten any, I'm wondering if they did. He ended up signing an one year show me deal with the Nats for $8 million so it wasn't like teams were knocking down the door for him in free agency.
