  1. he's forgetting the fantastic damage of one lahawk troykins.
  2. the way this portion is worded leads me to believe that it's just this writer's casual, idiotic opinion. miller is insurance for prior, not hill's replacement.
  3. the way hendry has held onto hill through thick and thin, i'd be very surprised if he wasn't in the rotation this season. hendry also is fully aware that rich hill put up the best game score in the NL last season.
  4. is that a ripoff of the "I-L-L!" chant? i don't know for sure who started it so i could be wrong. From what I remember, both schools claim that they started it first, I don't think anyone really knows. Everything I've heard says Mizzou started it, and Illinois stole it and tried to claim it as their own. they probably won it from them. Well it's mainly our football chant, so I don't see how they could've won it. weren't you doing the chant in this thread (labeled basketball, i believe)?
  5. good news, i hope that he returns to his 2005 form, although i'm not holding my breath.

  7. guys with goatees are weird. when i envision a man with a goatee, i see someone with jean shorts, white socks, and black shoes in a pantera hat flipping his 4-wheeler into a creek. he may or may not have a gold chain and a tucked-in tank top to show off his "no fear" tattoo. goatees have become the new mullets.
  8. best case scenario, briggs signs a huge deal with another team, we pick posluszny and get the picks. i love briggs and think he should be re-signed, but a chance to replace him with a talent like pos while getting a couple first rounders would be pretty sweet. I really want a linebacker with torn up knees that had to switch positions and never looke the same. Oh wait. No thanks on Poszlusny. i'll take him and 2 first rounders. that would be a better deal than just briggs, imo. but by franchising briggs, i think that the only way the bears lose on the deal is if he decides to hold out.
  9. Amen. Cowherd is the WORST in radio. He makes Rome tolerable. woah, woah, woah. Let's not go overboard here buddy. cowherd at least makes observations about sports, and although completely wrong 95% of the time--it still qualifies him as being better than rome, who rarely makes comments about anything on-field, only philosophical issues. *dead air* *dead air* "Wicked" *dead air* *dead air* A-Rod, time to nut up and stop whimpering in the corner like a baby that lost his rattle everytime there's a man on base with 2 outs. RACK EM epic. ridiculous.

  11. last year at this time, he stated that he was 99% retired. whatever, just go away so we don't have to worry about you in september. he's good, after all.

  13. Is that Kerry messing around behind him? Looks like his face. Looks like his glove. Look like Adidas spikes... looks more like miller, who, incidentally, looks a lot like kerry. on second inspection, yes, it probably is wood. he's lost a ton of weight as well.
  14. I wouldn't be surprised if Smith's career with U of I is done. i'd frankly be surprised if it isn't. he's a kid, he probably did something stupid but will end up paying for it for the rest of his life. that totally sucks. another interesting detail was the make and model of car that smith was driving. i wonder if his parents have that much money.
  15. i upgraded my xbox for a 360 and can't believe that they haven't added MVP 2005 to a backward-compatible update. it would appear that they probably can't.
  16. agreed, if anyone will be in the long-relief mode, it will be miller. there's less to lose by putting him there. prior will at least get a shot, and probably several, to get into the rotation--and hendry thinks too much of hill to discard him just when he starts revealing his promise. what sense would that make?

  18. Jim looks like he has lost some weight. The Cubs must have a contract with bally total fitness or Jenny Craig, everybody is losing weight. wow, he didn't just lose weight, he lost a person. good for him.
  19. No he doesn't. He throws a terrible slider that flattens out, stays over the plate because he can't place it to save his life and then watches 35 of them sail over the fence. he never said who's perspective he was speaking from.
  20. that has absolutely no pertinence to marquis's case. can he turn his career around? sure, but the comparison to carpenter is irrelevant. stats are the best predictors of future performance that we have, and there's no evidence that suggests that marquis is going to be more than just a guy this season.
  21. Or, how does one fall out of a hot tub and bruise their ribs? Or, how is someone dumb enough to fall out of a how tub? The Cubs can't afford mats to put around the thing? I wonder if the press will have pictures of the hot tub on the news? Some of those things can be pretty tricky getting out of but you're right you'd think they would have a nice safe area around it, especially for injured players. i'd guess that it's a sex-related injury.
  22. we could have gotten garcia for scraps but instead decided to overpay marquis--worst move of the offseason.
  23. Carrol asked him about this. Stone responded that he enjoys thinking along with the pitcher and manager. He says he will never second-guess a manager, he first-guesses. That is the only fair way to do it in his opinion. If he guesses correctly, so be it. If not, then he is wrong. fair enough, but i don't like how he gets deified because he sometimes is able to predict pitches.
  24. i grew up listening to steve stone and think he's a very good analyst in many respects, but overrated in others. he wowed people by predicting pitches and being right 25%-33% of the time, which is around what my accuracy is. he knows a lot about the game but is a strictly old school, blood-and-guts baseball expert. i value his opinion on pitching, but as a guy who played for earl weaver, he should have at least had some of earl's common sense rub off on him. he maligns billy beane, perhaps because he wanted beane's job at one point, and insists upon reiterating that the cubs "lack fundamentals". when a team is performing poorly, it's the most casual of fans who blame a "lack of fundamentals", as every team goofs up at one point or another. but when a team is doing bad, those "poor fundamentals" become focal points, metaphors for failure, scapegoats. stone is as guilty of this as anyone, and it's cheap, prejudicial analysis.
  25. Are you saying this with something in support or is it just the pessimistic party line? well, if the outfield will consist of floyd, soriano, and jones i can hardly see murton getting anything above the much fewer platoon PA's he'll get against left-handers. not enough to facilitate the development of the guy with the highest OBP in the lineup last season.
