  1. how is he going to earn it if there's no open spot in the rotation? small sample size for guzman aside, miller is a pitcher on the downside of his career without any effective pitches. lou, despite professing his love for the 5-man roattion recently, is skipping miller at every opportunity. what does that say about his faith in the man's ability to get people out? miller's just not good unless his fastball suddenly makes a reappearance. why not try a guy who has had past success at the minor league level, still has effective pitches, and will probably only improve as oppsed to a crafty veteran that isn't crafty? What does it say abou this faith in Guzman that he won't start him over Miller. This is the manager who won 115 games with Seattle let's not forget (I lived there in that season.... wow) so did i. i moved there in april and went to a ton of games. it was sad to see interest in the mariners wane in the successive seasons.
  2. If I had been the GM, he wouldn't have been on the team in this capacity. Then you'd have had your way and he wouldn't have been on the team. Do you remember that he stated clearly that if he didn't win the fifth starters spot that he didn't want to be here? Hendry also said that it would be "unfair" to Miller if he didn't start and would seek to trade or release him. The long relief spot is not an option for Miller. I could care less what Wade Miller wants, or what he feels is unfair. What's unfair is losing winnable games because your starting pitcher can't crack 90mph and throws the ball straight down the middle. . Players would be lining up to play in your organization. :? i don't understand this post. i think many players understand that if they suck, they shouldn't have the ability to guilt the GM into ordering the manager to play them. bad players shouldn't play, despite what hendry tells them or doesn't tell them.

  4. miller's terrible. no harm in trying out guzman, he couldn't do much worse.
  5. well, he grew up a huge cub fan in the quad cities. he attended my high school (Alleman, woot) and was apparently friendly with some members of my family, getting cubs convention tickets for them on a couple of occassions. he'll be missed. please ignore this shameless attempt to gain acceptance, though.
  6. oh dear. if you think that 2 years is long enough to judge any GM, unless that GM happens to be named bowden, who is a prime example of a loser GM that probably has compromising pictures of someone important--then i feel bad for you. rather, i feel bad for the baseball that is unfortunate enough to be evaluated by you. "chemistry", "makeup", aren't these words that people use to sound like they know what they're talking about when they don't? simply allowing for "chemistry" to be an issue when building a baseball team is stupid, as chemistry is generally only important in sports where there are meaningful, intricate interactions going on all of the time, not baseball. and loduca is and was one of the most overrated players in the game, both on the field and in the clubhouse. the moves depo made were good moves, both then and now. *sigh* Clearly, you get some sort of hard-on by trying to start fights over the internet. If you're just flame, then carry on and I'll ignore you in the future. are you honestly being serious? i was the one trying to stay out of the argument. you're the one who saw one word and messed the bed. i was being nice, and i think a lot of board regulars here would agree with that, too, how did i misinterpret this?: only one real way to interpret that. believing in team chemistry may be important in little league. fortunately, once you get to the major league level, you play with professionals and words like "chemistry" and "makeup" become sports words, with little to no meaning. why did you waste your time flaming the original post in the first place, then? why were you wasting your time with this last post? seems like you enjoy wasting your own time, no doubt you'll continue to waste your time by responding to this one, as well. we'll see how you don't like wasting your time. make a consistent, intelligent post about depodesta and i'll talk to you like a big boy. what was there to skim? i barely saw anything but a one paragraph jumbled-thought of a bitter post.
  7. lou should be knowledgeable of the warning signs with Z. if he comes out right away and players are hitting fly balls off of him, he needs to be settled down. if players START to hit fly ball after fly ball off of him, he needs to be pulled.
  8. wow, demps must have been throwing some sick pitches because they fooled the heck out the brewer hitters.
  9. i guarantee that he gets scored against in this inning.
  10. ditto more small words that nobody can read i can read them. but anyway, don't want to start a big thing with the small-ballers who see depodesta's firing in LA as a chink in the sabr-armor. Oh I'm sure Depodesta's VORGM was quite high. Unfortunately, in the real world, we also judge by results, which DePodesta lacked. Way to categorize anyone who thought DePodesta was bad, too. "Small-ballers." Good one. (For the record, I think Colletti is even worse than DePodesta, and is quickly cementing himself as one of the worst GM's in baseball) i don't know how you can assess a GM in 2 years. but yep, pretty much what i was expecting. thanks for living up to the stereotype. What stereotype is this, exactly? The stereotype of objectively judging someone by their performance in a job? He inherited a division winner, turned them into a last place team, and then was unable to hire a manager, which led to his firing. He might be OK if given another chance, but I'm not sure why he should be anyone's top choice. I'm sorry I don't verbally fellate Billy Beane and his associates like you. It's ridiculous to imply that anyone who doesn't wholeheartedly worship and embrance every stat-minded GM candidate is clearly backwards-thinking and ignorant. Billy Beane is one of (along with Schuerholz) the best GM's in the game, and I'd have no problem making him the highest-paid GM in baseball if he wanted to come to the Cubs. But that doesn't mean everyone he's ever worked with is good at their job too. Next time, at least bring up someone who has had success somewhere, like Forst or Fuson overly defensive, strangely paranoid, prone to fly off the handle at the very mention of depodesta's name, likely to read small wording because they like getting pissed off and being provided with an ample excuse to flame--you know, a stereotype. 2 years to build a system, construct his team, and contend year in and year out. how very pathetic and reactionary it was to fire him so prematurely. depodesta bashers are ridiculous. I'm not really sure where I come off as "overly defensive" or "strangely paranoid" but I'm not going to be like you and simply resort to personal attacks and name-calling to get my point across. Word of advice: If you get offended by people reading something you post in a public internet forum, DON'T POST IT. Even if it's in small letters. hahahahaha i'm the one getting offended? doesn't look like that to me. no, i was afraid of someone reading it and wetting their pants over it. which is exactly what happened. oh dear. if you think that 2 years is long enough to judge any GM, unless that GM happens to be named bowden, who is a prime example of a loser GM that probably has compromising pictures of someone important--then i feel bad for you. rather, i feel bad for the baseball that is unfortunate enough to be evaluated by you. 11. look like hunter hillenmeyer is getting held like it's nobody's business.
  12. if it weren't for all the division and conference titles, playoff wins, and championships, i'd say they're the exact same person. oh, that and skiles like to bathe every once in a while and frowns upon looking like a complete slob all of the time.
  13. anybody notice the way fielder stared him down after striking out to end the 7th? i don't think the brewers were too happy with hill's theatrics on the mound. they were painfully hilarious in the "tall, goofy lookin' guy who lacks coordination" type of way.

  15. You were by far the biggest Hill supporter when everyone was hating on him last year. Do you ever get tired of patting yourself on the back for being right? i believe that i started a thread before the beginning of the 06 season titled: "it's time to start hill." i was flamed by some, and glendon was in the rotation instead.
  16. i'm not okay at stunting the growth of a cheap, young outfielder that we should be counting on being a mainstay in the lineup for the next 10+ years. never mention that he had the top OBP on the team last season. lou is beginning to disappoint me already. bruce, next time you talk to him, tell him that i say he's being dumb.
  17. yep, i knew murton wasn't getting those 400 PA's. Cubs are 1-0 with Floyd starting; 0-2 with Murton. The Murton thing just ain't working. O:)

  20. Yeah I miss County Stadium as well. Another co-worker that used to live in the Milwaukee area agrees as well. That place was a much more enjoyable place to take in a ballgame. ugh, county staium was little more than a slab of concrete and asphalt. i hated that place. i haven't seen a game at miller, yet. i have tickets to the june 4th game, i'll reserve judgement until then. and i think bernie brewer still slides into a mug of beer, although i may be wrong. yep, i'm right. http://siggy99.mlblogs.com/photos/ballparkstour/millerbernies.jpg
  21. Agreed. Truth is, I'm sick of hearing his name. Funny, I'm sick of hearing his voice I still don't understand all the Stone criticism... stone is your typical know-it-all baseball insider who likes to grind his axes publicly--a noteable axe is dedictaed to billy beane. i've never heard stone give him anything but backhanded compliments. i realize that beane got the job that stone coveted, but still, jeez, give it up, steve. beane's done a better job than you could do in a million years.
