  1. trying to hit the ball on the ground isn't wise. Really? Neither is trying to hit the ball in the air. more hits will come via the ground than air. Obviously if you are leaving line drives out of the conversation you can't leave line drives out of the equation. the intent should be to hit line drives all of the time.
  2. Right now we arent hitting like the 27 Yanks. Time and a place for everything. If its through then it is 1st and 3rd. On the ground you still have a guy on. H&R with Sorri, not a big fan. Barrett up with Murton on makes a good Run and Hit combo. we were hitting well in that inning. no need to take chances when we're hitting well. As others have said, it was moving the defense that picked up an extra run. Blindly H&R I agree with you, not smart. Picking times and places. Remember you are dealing with humans. The Mental is 2 to 1 the physical. it worked, sometimes these things work. but planning on these things working time and again isn't a good thing. best to rely on the ability of your team to be productive at the plate than by cheating their skills taking risks.
  3. 50-50 isn't a good percentage. Well, let's say it another way. Without using the hit and run at all in that inning, the Cubs get 1 run instead of 2. i'm listening to the game, was it that sure of a thing? a 3-6-3 isn't exactly an easy DP.

  5. can we stop hitting and running already? or are we going to take unnecessary risks time after time?
  6. way to come through DLEE!!! let's get that first homer, though.
  7. Hells no, put Izzy on the bench for Theriot. Izturis has done nothing in..well...ever. i don't know if lou would do that, though. Boy does Theriot ever have a nice swing though. i like his patience. he's not afraid to strike out and i love it.

  9. i'm starting to really like theriot. he, of course, poses a problem to Lou if he continues hitting, though.
  10. With Pie off to such a hot start in AAA, is there a chance that Jones gets traded and they are seeing if Murton can play right just in case? Nah, because Pie would be the RF between the two. I think it's for the anticipated Floyd and Murton OF. I agree, but they may just want to make sure that Murton can play right in case Pie comes up and really struggles or on days he needs off. They need to get prospects for Jones and package them with Murton and others in a deal for Cabrera so they can start Cabrera, Pie, Soriano out there. Then it won't matter if Pie struggles. I'm sold Jones won't gett you the players you need to get Cabrera, not unless you're also dipping into the Cubs prospect. Z, however, would. no, he wouldn't, considering the contract he's looking to sign.
  11. protest all you want, but luck is still a huge part of the game, especially when you're talking about a 2-3 start sample size. by the look of marquis's BABIP, he's getting pretty lucky thus far.
  12. Okay, so you look at K/9 and K/BB and HR's allowed. Awesome. Hits, walks, and runs allowed are kinda sorta important too. They're important looking backwards, but after three games they are in no way important as a predictive stat. Nobody's trying to predict the rest of the season. They are just saying-who has pitched better so far-Z in his 3 starts, or Marquis in his 2? Well in that case obviously Marquis has had more success, but that doesn't necessarily mean he's pitched better. It would be easy to say that he has, but with such a small sample and so many of the different variables that go into pitching, I'd have to look at the stats way deeper and after just a combined 5 starts, it wouldnt be worth it. this is, how they say?.......exactly right.
  13. With this post, you are the Pat to my Ron. :D
  14. the silky smoothe vocal stylings of pat hughes. the best pbp man around, imo. and it's not that he simply caters to or plays off ronnie, it's that he somehow can read ronnie's mind and say what ron is trying to say but can't get the words out.
  15. I agree. I said the same thing in the game thread today. I think Hill is the ace until Zambrano proves otherwise. i think that's a bit premature. while i've been preaching the gospel of rich for a while now, zambrano has 4 full seasons of excellent pitching under his belt. not that it makes much difference either way.
  16. was that sacrifice as close to a HR as gameday says it was?
  17. i declare that we will score this inning.
  18. i wonder if hill will be allowed to throw more than 76 pitches today.
  19. we would have made him look great, though.
  20. why hasn't lee hit a home run in 2 years?
