  1. I think he still could be. Isn't he one year removed from arm surgery? he was really good in 2005. he's having a prior/wood moment right now, though. that sucks.
  2. same here but after Kearns hit I thought it was going to drop into a glove right at the wall pat didn't get too excited until it was over the wall, so yeah.
  3. i'm listening on the radio and the sound that that made was vicious. and the roar of the crowd was awesome.
  4. that'll teach kearns to hit home runs against us!
  5. hitters taking the same approach against hill as they did against prior and wood. just don't swing at anything....at all.
  6. are you joking or what? Yeah, I bet if we put together a team of only Japanese players, they'd never be able to beat players from other countries in an international exhibition. They would simply be over matched... That exhibition means nothing. It was before the baseball season, most of the players the Americans sent weren't even in baseball shape yet. Look, Ichiro and Matsui are good but they are rare. Nomo, yea he won games one year, but where is he now? Otsuka isn't that great. I'm just saying the Red Sox must feel like suckers now paying all that money to a mediocre pitcher. Matsuzaka was good against Japanese hitting, but he can't handle MLB hitting. It's way over his league. your views are intriguing to me and i would like to subscribe to your newsletter.
  7. cough, cough *Ichiro* cough, cough. cough, cough *Matsui* cough, cough. don't forget otsuka, who's pretty durned good in his own right. nomo was rookie of the year and kaz sasaki was one of the best closers in the game as an old man. japanese players are like american or latino players, some are good and some are bad.

  10. actually, he's right, baseballs in japan are slightly smaller.
  11. dropping down can be effective if it's not done with much consistency. i've seen z use it to his advantage before. I agree for the most part. It's something that Jeff Weaver, when successful, is able to do effectively. For Zambrano, I think it's mostly a matter of being lazy. I mean, if the guy can notice that he's throwing out of the wrong slot and correct it just by adjusting mentally, you gotta think that the only reason it's happening is he's just letting his arm take the path of least resistance. That's my hypothesis anyhow. when he's doing it often, it's laziness. but i've seen him do it intentionally on occassion, sometimes successfully, sometimes, not. maybe he's trying to be cute. generally when he's getting under his pitches, they go a long way.

  13. Damn, man. Noc sure doesn't hold back. Not sure that's the most wise tactic against the Pistons. I think this is getting blown out of proportion. Seriously what do you expect him to say? Im sure everybody on the Bulls thinks they will win, and likewise for the Pistons. Its not like he came out saying "We are going to sweep them, they arent that good". The smart play is always the same: "We know they're a good team, we'll need to play our best basketball, our challenge is to play our game well..." yada yada yada Declaring victory just becomes bulletin board material for the other team. or it gets them off of their game.
  14. i'd be happy with a 4.5, i said that at the beginning of the season and i'm sticking with it. i'd be much happier with a 2.5 or 3.5, but that's hope.
  15. he won't be making the offer to zell, zell doesn't and will never own the cubs.
  16. interesting. i'll have to look for that.
  17. as long as he can keep the ball down, but still in the zone, he can be effective. larry must have seen something that he knew he could fix.
  18. good, surprisingly. looks like he's found the sinker. not throwing so many pitches, either. his GB numbers are getting back to where they were. he just doesn't seem to resemble the guy from last year.
  19. i remember watching keyshawn's reaction when the panthers took jarrett. "i'm excited, i really am!" no, you're not.
  20. yeah, wasn't there a vote recently on who was the greatest latino shorstop? the choices were aparicio, concepcion, and vizquel. i'll take other, please. just goes to show how little the "chaw-spittin'" baseball insiders know about how the game actually works. poor miguel tejada i think alex rodriguez would have a little to say about this but will history remember him as a SS?
  21. walking blues- robert johnson
