  1. how much? we'll start with a coke.
  2. Nobody's saying the Cubs are going to win the division this year. But if they end up in last place, it will not be because they never won a 1 run game, it will because they were outscored, maybe with a little bit of help from a bad record in 1 run games. they're outscoring people this year and look what's happening, just look. if you refuse to look and see what has always happened is happening once more then that's your prerogative. If you refuse to listen to what I am saying that is yours, but I will repeat myself more clearly. If, at the END OF THE SEASON (that was implied in my last post) they are in last place, it will be because they were outscored. Anybody can suck in one run games in a sample size like this. Believe it or not, the Cubs are not the only team to have ever had a run like this. not consistently, year in and out.
  3. The collapse in game 6 wasn't a curse. It was a group of guys that got spooked and didn't keep their head in the game. Moises freaked out, Prior freaked out, everyone freaked out. Everyone was looking for the "curse" at the park and thought they found it when Steve touched the ball. The images of priests at Wrigley before game 7 is an image I'll never forget. and if it happens again, which inevitably, it will, there will be another more "rational" explanation. this whole thing reminds me of sisyphus.

  5. Whats your evidence that curses aren't real? The wonderful thing about curses is that, like all other things falling into the irrational realm of human thought, they cannot be proven or disproven. This is because they have no defined impact on the real world. Anything can be interpreted as evidence for or against a curse. In a way, it is a form of spiritualism. You might as well pray to the Sun God to give you a boutiful harvest. If you want to believe in curses, that is up to you. Realistically though, curses have nothing to do with the real, material world. Believe it or not, that is where baseball is played. you talk as if everything about the "material world" is already known. it's not. not by a long shot. the "material world" is not an absolute, it's closer to a concoction created by the mind and the collective minds of other observers.
  6. the curse is specific. wrigley will never see a world series game after 1945. the only way to break the curse is to demolish wrigley and salt the earth so that nothing will ever grow there again. do that and the cubs will win a pennant.
  7. it's like people are sitting there, watching the water rise, and telling themselves they don't believe in water as they drown.
  8. Couldn't that be evidence that curses can be broken? the red sox weren't cursed. babe ruth was a ballplayer, not a witch. a goat, however, is often used in black ceremonies, or so i'm told. i didn't realize that the mythical goat owner was a witch doctor i didn't realize that it was possible for teams to lose in such ways that the cubs have, but it's happened. exhibit a. game 6

  10. Well said Wow, even the fans are getting the loser attitude. Sure the Cubs have been playing poor, but to say there is nothing they can do to win is idiotic. The only thing the Cubs are cursed with is a moron for a GM that doesn't have a clue how to assemble a team. The Cubs could get Earl Weaver to manage this team and they would still be in last place. Hendry has to go, it is too bad they let him saddle the team long term before he left. they have a team that should be winning. they're 0-5 in 1 run games and derrek lee has no home runs. weird stuff is happening. you better start believing in curses, becaue this curse is a dilly. Yay for stupid BS kneejerk reactions! Repeat after me: Curses are not real. Now, write that on the blackboard 1000 times. Is it possible for the team to outscore their opponents but still end up last in the division? Yes. Is it likely to happen over a 162 game season? No. It can happen, but it is no more likely to happen because of some imaginary voodoo nonsense some people made up to explain a a bizarre longterm aberration. you sit there and watch the same games that i do, you see the same weird messed up things happening to players who have been very successful with other frnachises, you see them lose in ridiculous ways, you probably get the same bad feelings that i get and still you refuse that there's a monster undewr4 your bed as it's eating your parents in front of your eyes! as i've dsaid, the late 60's cubs had pretty much 4 HOFers on their team, expalin to me how they couldn't win. it must have been "bad baseball" right?
  11. things happen to the cubs that don't happen to any other team, there's no explanation for it, except one.
  12. you should have seen this coming. i did, but i didn't care. cursed.

  14. Yes, it's a curse that we have an incompetent GM who spends millions of dollars on an unhealthy, out-of-shape middle reliever who sucks. I also now know why Hawk likes Piniella so much. He's a carbon copy of Guillen. Micro-manages every part of the game and runs out of players in situations like these. while i agree with your assessment of piniella, so many cubs players and managers have failed with the cubs. the late 60's early 70's cubs had like 3 hall of famers, should be 4, and they only sniffed the playoffs briefly.
  15. what is it now, 85 plate appearances now? 19 games. i wager lee doesn't hit a single home run this year, unless it's inside the park. judging at how lucky he's getting on balls in play, that could be a possibility.
  16. when are people going to look and see the same things happening with the cubs that have always happened to cubs teams--you know, things that absolutely never happen to other teams and admit that there could be something to curses? the cubs can't win because they are cursed, people, they are cursed cursed cursed. they will never win in that ballpark no matter who they have. they've assembled a team full of past winners and still they can't win. this team is cursed.
  17. even though i know we have absolutely zero shot against a terrible reliever, i'm going to watch the cubs bat anyway.
  18. somehow, i had a feeling that the needless lee CS would come back to haunt us.
  19. I'd settle for a quick and/or painless death. No death on a 162 game schedule is going to be painless. This isn't even depressing anymore, I just know that we'll be back in the race by September BEGGING TO HAVE THESE GAMES BACK And thats when it'll hurt. i can't remember when we last won a game. it feels like we're 0-18. we might as well be.
  20. I'd settle for a quick and/or painless death. another scoreless extra inning for us. something funny can't be happening.
