  1. Hits are more likely to occur by chance while walks are not? I completely disagree. Walks are WAYYYY more about luck than hits are. You get a hit if your a good hitter end of story. You take a walk if the pitcher happens to throw you balls. that's the dumbest thing i've ever heard. I find it hilarious that this guy is a baseball coach. HOW IN THE HELL DO HITS OCCUR BECAUSE OF LUCK??!!!! ARE YOU GUYS SERIOUS RIGHT NOW?!!!! I'M DONE WITH THIS ****. YOU GUYS HAVE TO BE THE STUPIDEST PEOPLE IVE EVER COME ACROSS. BATTING AVERAGE IS A VERY IMPORTANT STAT WHEN DETERMINING HOW GOOD A HITTER IS. NO ONE HAS A HIGH BATTING AVERAGE BECAUSE OF LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! haha, that's an even better one.
  2. You can say that about anything. Maybe a pitcher tripped and threw a ball and walked you. OOOO you got a walk by luck. Duck snorts or broken bat singles happen a lot. Those are due mostly to luck or whatever you want to call it. But over a season batting average is not influenced by luck. You dont see a guy getting 100 broken bat singles. hell, even if you learned everything that you know about baseball from movies, you know that the difference between a .275 hitter and a .300 hitter is 1 hit per week.

I find it hilarious that this guy is a baseball coach. seriously? but i guess i'm not surprised. baseball coaches are often the most confused by the game and it's alleged idiosyncracies. The Hidden Game of Baseball references "the music of the spheres", which really alludes to getting bogged down by the supposed magic of baseball, conventional wisdom, and irrational beliefs that are common among baseball insiders. baseball, above all else, is a game of numbers, cold, hard numbers--especially on the pro level.

What a coincidence because what you wrote above that was the dumbest thing i've ever heard. haha, nice one.

  6. i really don't know why we need roberts or why hendry has targeted him, just another reason why hendry is one of the worst gms in the game. if we get roberts, i hope he can get a good package for derosa, because it'd be pointless to have him on the team if he's not the everyday ss, which i don't necessarily recommend. i would have given up pie in a deal for bedard, i would have even checked to see if andy is dumb enough to take colvin off of our hands instead. but hendry comes from the same school of dumb that andy went to.
  7. I want to change my arrogant/delusional fan base vote. he's right. iu is a reputable school with a long and rich history of excellence in men's basketball. there's nothing wrong with saying it.
  8. How so? You can say that about any stat then. If a guy hits .300 one year, then there is no reason to expect him not to hit .300 the next year. Same with HRs. If a guy hits 30 HRs one year, then there is no reason not to expect him to hit 30 the next year. Except that HR's can dramatically decrease with age while average actually can stay close to the same, so i dunno. Every stat can be expected to be repeated, but it might not happen. no, home runs and walks occur independent of luck, base hits do not. batting average is a stat that is highly affected by chance, which makes it's deviation much more unpredictable.
  9. i thought adams played very well this season. AA is Adam Archuleta. ithat's why you don't post freaking initials.
  10. don't want berrian for the price he'd command. i like the idea of faneca, but the guards weren't the big problem. the tackles were. miller needs to go and tait needs to go back to rt. They were? Ruben Brown wasn't very good when he was in there. When he got hurt, they were abysmal in his spot. Garza has never been anything special. while i don't remember the running back getting many yards between the tackles, i really don't remember fred miller or john tait getting their hands on opposing defensive ends. really, tait is more aof a guard himself, the man has no instincts anymore at tackle.

  13. I'm sorry.. your "sources" called the Choi Lee trade. I mean everyone and their grandma knew the Cubs were interested in upgrading the slop from 03 at 1B. I mean everyone and their grandma knew the Marlins were cleaning house. I mean even Peter Gammons said it was a possibility days before it went down, but you and your "sources" came up with it. My ass. My god don't play semantic games with me. There "may be some discussion." This is similar to me saying that the Cubs are discussing the potential profit increase by raising ticket prices. Yeah, it may or may not be going on. There may be discussion is even an understatement of what miles said. He said lukewarm, at best. To be lukewarm is to be indifferent. To have solid interest is not to be indifferent. so yeah... miles pretty much said you were wrong. not to mention every other "rumor" you have ever come up with is either A: written on the wall, B: already known, or C: too dumb to be true. So you're 1 for 1000. Outstanding. Keep em coming. And please dont ever analyze a thing about baseball, mmkay pumpkin? besides i trust my sources more than i do yours. then again i dont leak my inside information Are you kidding me? Who cares that one writer's opinion is that the interest was lukewarm. Hoops was still the first person to report that the Cubs had any interest in Crisp. I know part of your gimmick is to rile everyone up, but you are going over the line here. Not that Hoops was correct in personally calling you up and attacking you a few days ago, but you took it too far in your response. he got what he asked for, should have kept his mouth shut. if you're foolish enough to call meph out regarding baseball, i have no sympathy for you.

  15. shhhhhh, raising will hear you.
  16. oh, and brandon paul jumped over some dude on a dunk in a game a couple of weeks ago.
  17. ronnie fields could jump higher than anyone ever.
  18. What does this even mean? still waiting, maybe we should post what we think he meant..... i got nothing.
  19. skiles would be an excellent hire, in the mold of a bobby knight. he'd fit right in in bloomington. i always thought that he'd make a great college coach, although if iu hires him, i hope he's NOT too good.
  20. Howard's much stronger and can jump a heck of a lot higher. Moreover, unlike Kemp, Howard's never had weight issues. i don't know if there are many people in the world could jump higher than kemp in his prime.
  21. yeah, but an early commit has a much better chance of honoring his committment than not. it can't hurt to get kids to verbal early. generally kids fail to honor early commits when the coach leaves or the school goes under investigation or is placed on some kind of probation. i feel pretty good about the richmond commit, he seems genuinely excited. plus, both he and his father have already publicly criticized gordon--and he's got a ton of highly-rated players who will be there with him, none of whom play his particular position. and again, i'm liking what weber has been doing in illinois, he's starting to lock down the state and get kids excited about playing basketball close to home. getting in early and establishing relationships with players that are even older than their relationships with their high school coaches can never hurt. the 2 kids to watch will be brandon paul and crandall head. imo, they're the top 2 players in the state right now--and that includes seniors like dunnigan and shumpert--even wunderkinds like richmond.
  22. he verballed before he had played a game of hisgh school ball. expect more of the same, though. with all schollies accounted for through 2010-11, nothing for weber to do but spend time in junior high gyms. it's a luxury to get in on these kids first. illinois does not have near the prestige of a duke, kansas, kentucky, north carolina, or indiana--and i don't expect self, billy g., k, williams, or whoever's gonna be their coach, at any obscure illinois 7th grade games.
  23. i'm glad somebody got it.
  24. why does one or the other have to be better? they're different players. ? They both are point guards that can also score. if you don't recognize that they're different players, you haven't see one or the other of them play. Why don't you come down and break down the differences between the two players for us, because obviously I don't watch basketball. i didn't say you didn't watch basketball, just that you haven't seen one or the other of them play and you tend to make assumptions based on anecdotal evidence and highlights from the booyaa network. you definitely possibly could maybe watch some basketball, but your assessments are mainly uptight bedwetting garbage--as evidenced by your most recent temper tantrum over a fairly beign observation and statement that i had made--. Actually garbage would be your hyperbolic post earlier(Ali vs. a Diet Coke). While their styles of play may differ a bit, you can most certainly make comparisons between the two players as their value as an NBA point guard. He was talking about baseball v. basketball, not Williams v. Paul. thank you, and it was more of a joke to illustrate a point than anything. maybe poorly worded, but that's not my fault, i ripped it off of the simpsons.
  25. every time i watch eric gordon play and score a zillion points i want to rip my eyes out. i hate you sampson and i hate basketball!
