    I think this is the culmination of the past two years of heightened awareness. MLS attendance is up while every other league was static or down. Seattle draw 30k+ every match and play pretty good attacking soccer. Investment in MLS is up. At this point, I don't care if it "arrives" with meatheaded meatballs. We have a big enough fanbase to matter, as Wolf said. I peek in on the soccer thread every once in a while and much of the time you guys are talking about teams in countries most us have never been to. I don't consider myself a meatball but that's something I could never dig.

    the best soccer club leagues are played overseas, and the majority of American sports fans are provincial. casual fans aren't going to start flocking to mls games. I really don't see how soccer has arrived any more than in any previous cup year, apart from the fact that espn3 provides a wonderful way to waste time at work. A league that is not the best in the world will never see mainstream success in this country. I'm loving the world cup now, though.

    I totally understand what all the hype is about now. Congrats to USS who has taken my jokes with grace. I was feeding my son when donovan scored, my wife was getting ready to vacuum. She jumps, I jump up child screaming in my arms, we are hugging, the castratti are singing, the ball is in the goal.

    there's no real significance to it, in my mind. the original 6 aren't even the original 6, really. they were just what the league was for the 25 years after contraction.

    that's not possible we have to drop campbell. can we trade him for gonchar's negotiating rights and then let him walk? i mean, that's not all they'd want, but we could throw in steeg or buff or ladd or something. The Penguins have their own salary cap issues. Honestly if Toronto is really willing to give the Hawks Kaberle and Grabovski for Sharp and Campbell, the Hawks would be foolish not to do this deal. In reality the Hawks are going to be up against the cap next off season also. Unloading Campbell and getting a solid second pairing dman for 2 million less this season and his contract expires next is worth the talent downgrade. I also think Kaberle would not be as much of a downgrade from Campbell as some may think, the real downgrade would be Sharp to Grabovski. It also would give the Hawks another season to get their young dmen ready and a real good shot at keeping Seabrook next off season the more I think about it the more I wonder why Toronto would make that deal edit: Kaberle makes almost 3 million less then Campbell it doesn't look like we're going to give up sharp so they'd have to take versteeg or buff.

    This is the most talented team we've had since the '89 bunch according to recruiting services.     i don't know how many times i've flipped on a federer match to see him being completely dominated, only to rally from the cusp of defeat and win. the question isn't "when has federer come back from two sets down?" the question is "when has he failed to come back from two sets down?" i hate that douchebag.

    man, i am really drinking the kool-aid this year more than ever. i can't see the illini not winning the big ten. in my mind, it would be a huge disappointment, this team has everything. we are going to have crandall head as like our 11th player. that is absolutely disgusting. i am predicting a big ten title and a top seed in the tourney, we're simply one of the best teams in the country. i cannot wait for basketball season.
