  1. what about marty turco? he'd probably be similar to niemi, except older.
  2. You never know in the NHL. It just takes one GM. But I suspect it's not the cap hit immediately, but the six more years that makes Campbell unmovable. I could be wrong. Plus, he has a partial No Move Clause which says he can stipulate 10 teams he'd be willing to traded to. I doubt those 10 teams are the ones with a lot of cap space. are we expecting a bidding war for buff or versteeg? obviously there would be one for sharp but let's not let him go. what kind of prospects/picks might we expect?
  3. That doesn't make sense. They aren't trying to extract money from the Hawks by showing him to be a wallflower. They are trying to extract money from the Hawks by suggesting that he's a contrarian (I guess) who won't take less just to stay with the Hawks because they are a good team and won the Cup. Sounds like pretty standard posturing to me. well, it's coming out like niemi doesn't necessarily want to win wherever he goes. they're taking it to an extreme. they could have just said, "look, antti is going to the highest bidder, plain and simple. if you want him, match the highest bid." and that's all they need to do because he's an RFA. they don't need to play this starnge game that involves insinuating that it is niemi's preference NOT to play for the cup, because that's what they insinuated, which is really really weird and not standard at all.
  4. well, obviously niemi and his agent are trying to extract money from the hawks by selling the guy as a wallflower. damned if you do and if you don't. at least we won the cup.
  5. wow, take that!
  6. i have to say, if niemi is really like this, i disapprove. i want a cocky, attention-whore goalie who's pissed that he has to wear a mask. a goalie who desires to be in the spotlight and around the action. someone who is smiling under all that gear when we're all clenching our asses and grinding our teeth.
  7. i bet the illegal mexican players were there but were just hiding because they don't want to mix with white americans.
  8. it is only a matter of time before teams figure out that the best strategy against him is to foul as many pitches off as you can, shrink your strike zone and get him to 100 pitches in the 5th or 6th and he'll break when his manager consistently pushes him to 130 to get him to the 8th. strasburg will not last pitching the way he does now, it's just not sustainable. his elbow is going to jump out of his arm if he has to throw that curveball consistently.
  9. deal Lord that was terrible. i guess there's not much that they can say, but come on, that sounded like cubbiebum wrote it.
  10. see? truffle is completely unruffled by said comments!
  11. I'm not really answering your question. However, to say the Pac 10 is an academically strong conference isn't the entire story. It rivals South Africa for inequality from best/richest to worst/poorest. At the top, it's possibly to probably the strongest power conference academically. From top to bottom, it completely lacks depth. It has four outstanding universities (Stanford, Berkeley, UCLA, USC), one very good (Washington), four decent/average (Arizona, Washington State, Oregon, Arizona State) and one poor (Oregon State). I see absolutely no reason Kansas wouldn't fit academically, especially when the conference is considering Texas freakin' Tech (and Okie State for that matter). What's so bad about Oregon State? According to USNWR, they're a tier 3 institution. so are ole miss and miss st.
  12. don't forget vlade
  13. there are any number of goalies out there who could replace niemi. good luck to him, i say
  14. way down in academic prestige, way way down
  15. i kind of like the vuvuzela. pretty unique to soccer. i mean, if im only going to care about soccer every so often, I like a little atmosphere to go along with it yeah, i like it too. it reminds me of what mike tyson told them to play when being introduced for the berbick fight. "just play noise." that was awesome.
  16. Correct. Colvin is the 4th best OF on the team. i'd like him to get more plate appearances too, but it's not possible. if lee gets traded, i see a spot opening up for him but not really until then. the other outfielders are making too much money and playing pretty well.
  17. i know, the horns were so loud yesterday that you couldn't hear the terrible drunken singing of the english fans.
  18. let's not bring kent mercker into it, please. he did this franchise a great service and now we have a couple of pretty awesome tv guys.
  19. because we can, [expletive], because we can. and seriously, this may be the only time i get to do it so i'm going to enjoy it. But why? Philadelphia fans are awful but Truffle's fine. He didn't say anything bad about us. Really, you're falling to their level if you're going to mock Truffle. You're better than that. i never mentioned truffle by name but i've also never been afraid to pick on him and i don't think he's ever been afraid to pick on me. he's knows i'm just being myself and i don't mean anything by it. Fair enough. also, i had a few last night

  21. hossa is just so entertaining to watch. he brings that eastern european magic to the table. to a lesser extent, so does kopecky, see the game winner in game 1 of the finals. i love watching the slovaks, everything they do they do with style.
  22. so 1. OSU 2. MSU 3. UM 4. PSU 5. INDIANA 6. PURDUE 1. NU 2. ILLINOIS 3. UW 4. IOWA 5. MINN 6. NEBRASKA i'd say that's a favorable basketball division for the illini.
  23. i hated stone the entire time he was with the cubs and i hate him slightly less now that i don't have to listen to him.
  24. because we can, [expletive], because we can. and seriously, this may be the only time i get to do it so i'm going to enjoy it.
  25. philly fans suck and so do their crappy teams of destiny. but mostly, it's the fans that make philadelphia the worst place to play in professional sports. they are truly awful ass-holes. i hope they loved the cup presentation so much that they stayed for the whole thing, like idiot moths to a flame. [expletive] em, their team sucks
