  1. I did pick that up. I think he's thinking that the Cubs will give Cedeno his shot, he'll stumble, and Dusty will turn to the veteran that "saved" them last season. It's time to trade the malcontent~ Again, you have to blame Dusty for planting that seed in his head. I'm all for dumping Neifi the Worthless on the side of the road, but he's just a symptom of the disease that is Dustyball. I would place just as much or more blame on Hendry. When you give a veteran an everyday player's salary and a multiyear committment you can't expect him to be happy about backing up a rookie, unless maybe it's some sort of can't-miss ARod type rookie.
  2. I think some of you are being too kind to Neifi. He doesn't come right out and say it, but I think his quotes clearly reflect that he relishes the prospect of Cedeno failing. I detect some nasty selfishness in that "let's see what happens" quote. If Walker produced quotes like this the media would be all over him.
  3. Ok what expletative "nickname" did you edit out in that paraphrase? haha, actually i'd like to change my post brian on neifi "[neifi] [sucks]!" "[neifi] sucks donkey [body part]."
  4. These are some pretty obnoxious quotes. You don't have to be Sigmund Freud to see that Neifi wants Cedeno to fail. How about a link? Personally I wouldn't post something like this without letting people know where it came from.
  5. Somewhat? http://woolis.com/images/Fanfest2005/05fanfest001Puckett&Lantz.jpg Yikes. He was in a lot worse shape than I thought.
  6. How does someone that young have a fatal stroke? I know he had let himself go somewhat, but 45 is awfully young for this.
  7. I am an extreme cynic about the Cubs and their sleazy history of misinformation but I think it's too early to freak out over Prior. Kerry is another case. I've quit freaking out over him. I permanently gave up on him as a reliable starter even before last season ended, so announcements of Kerry's problems don't bug me so much.
  8. I can't wait for Neifi's first hot streak. If last year's pattern holds Neifi's rolleyes-loving fans will have diarrhea of the keyboard when he's hot and then forget how to type as soon as he goes cold.
  9. I wonder how banning greenies will affect the length of MLB careers. Players say they give you a quicker bat, and when players get old they need all the bat speed they can get. I'm guessing we might see a big reduction in the number of players over 35 who can catch up to a good fastball.
  10. Those have to be Neifi's pants. They display his trademark combo of fat butt, fat gut, and toothpick thin calves.
  11. ZZ was the most obvious of the wiseass Neifi fans who would crawl out of the woodwork every time he had a hot streak and bombard us with rolleyes emoticons. There was another guy who was worse but I can't remember his name.
  12. Hendry would probably want an RH bat instead. The more I think about it we actually do need a decent backup CF. Grissom is acceptable as a specialist to face LHPs, but he would be a terrible injury replacement for Pierre.
  13. I suppose we could use another OF who can play CF. If Pierre gets hurt there's nobody who could step in right away. Possibly Hendry wants more of a sure thing than Grissom as a platoon option with Jones.
  14. Other than Lugo, who the heck would the Cubs be after? All the slots are filled. I suppose 2B could be upgraded, but first the glut there would have to be broken up. A Williamson/Walker package would make sense.
  15. Hard to say for sure from the gettyimages picture, but it looks like Williams may still be fat. We need a picture of his gut and rear end to be sure. I'll be very disappointed if he's overweight.
  16. I would imagine he's the 4th outfielder/lefty bat off the bench, since the Giants feel they're set with Bonds in LF, Winn in CF, and Alou in RF. It's also possible that on days Bonds doesn't play, Winn will shift to LF and Finley will start in CF (or vice versa; Finley in LF and Winn in CF). Or they could play all 4 of them at once. They might even be able to defend the whole outfield that way.
  17. Does cold air make a breaking ball move more? I know conventional wisdom says thin air reduces movement, and cold air is denser than warm air. Maybe Hill's curve would move really well in Wrigley in April.
  18. Did I miss something? I thought Wood's rehab was going well and he was on track to miss no more than a week or two at the most. Now they're saying he could be out a month and a half or more? I've said for a while now that anything we get from Wood as a starter should be considered a bonus. I really think he's going to be in the bullpen or the DL most of the year. Agreed. While I hope he makes 20-30 starts, I don't think we should expect it. The Williamson trade possibility was the first I had heard of anything. What I expect: 15 starts tops, 5 of them good ones, 5 mediocre, 5 meltdowns. Otherwise bullpen/DL. I also wouldn't be surprised by a start total in the single digits.

  20. Can't believe you left this part out. This is the first I've heard of Williamson being possible trade bait. What would they trade him for, another backup OF?
  21. I'd rather have Huff than Jones. Jones is just plain bad, while Huff at least has a chance to be much better than Jones. Even if Huff has another lousy year on par with 2005 he wouldn't be much worse than Jones, and the potential upside would make Huff a better gamble.
  22. It always amazes me when people talk about getting a Cabrera or Dunn while maintaining a list of untouchables. If the Cubs were trading those guys we would justifiably be outraged if a team told us we couldn't have the pick of their farm.
  23. If Dusty takes a liking to Grissom Jones might sit vs. most LHP's. That would be one of the rare cases when Dusty's fondness for the elderly actually helps the Cubs. As long as he isn't the second coming of Lenny Harris. He made Michael Jordan look like a decent hitter. As a starter Harris was the worst baseball player I have ever seen.
  24. Change Furcal to Giles and I agree. Furcal...meh. Would've been spending way too much money for a player that wouldn't have had a huge impact. I think a top 4 of Pierre, Furcal, Lee, Aram would have been pretty lethal. I'll take Cedeno at the MLB minimum.
