  1. If Miller does well what reason is there to believe he'll give the Cubs a discount for 2007? His career is hanging by a thread and he'll most likely try to get every dollar he can because he knows 2007 could be his last hurrah. If it were up to me he would have been released in early June and he would've had to come up with his rehab and meal money out of his own pocket.
  2. Dempster is untradeable because of his contract. I say let Demp/Eyre/Howry do a closer by committee thing in April/May and hope someone steps up and claims the job before June. That's not a very appealing scenario but I can't think of anything better.
  3. I googled and found some more Tigers boards with multiple Neifi threads on the front page. I can't recall ever seeing a player with Neifi's ability to generate negative internet chatter.
  4. It looks like Cubs boards from 2005. Neifi is one polarizing dude. http://www.forums.mlb.com/ml-tigers
  5. And don't forget Eyre and Howry are only one third of the way through their contracts, so there's plenty of time for those deals to go sour too.
  6. Of course every black manager or head coach in any sport is going to get racist mail, but you don't see all those guys repeatedly bringing up the subject in the media.
  7. Dusty gets no sympathy from me if he is trying to play the race card to save his job. He ought to remember that his race is the only reason he still has his job because his comments re hot weather and black/latin people would certainly have gotten a white man fired.
  8. I like Murton quite a bit, I hope he remains with the Cubs. Having said that, is he really the type of player that would haunt the Cubs for a long time? If so, I haven't seen it. I think he will be a sold ML player, but nothing near a superstar. Carlos Lee isn't a superstar either, but he will be paid like one. I'll take a solid player at the MLB minimum.
  9. Not when you have Sammy going absolutely nuts. Those were pre-steroid Bonds-numbers. If one player could carry a team then the Rangers would have won the WS all three years they had ARod.
  10. Coomer made 386 plate appearances for the Cubs in 2001. Amazing that team won 88 games while giving some much playing time to multiple players of Coomer's calibre.
  11. No Matsui for me. Murton is a very cost-effective solution for the OF and unless he could be replaced with a genuine superstar I'd keep him to save $$ for Soriano or the rotation.
  12. Funny thing is Dusty asked Hendry to re-sign Eric Karros and Randall Simon for 2004, and they were both slow singles hitters. Maybe he liked their veteran moxie or gamerishness.
  13. For the Cubs I like having SB potential for days when a hard wind is blowing in at Wrigley and the game is low-scoring, otherwise I could do without it. What I absolutely HATE is seeing the same small-ball crapola applied when the Cubs HR hitters are swinging well and the wind is blowing out.
  14. Agree completely. CLee will be grossly overpaid and Murt is already looking like a cheap and effective #2 hitter. Soriano would be most welcome at 2B but unfortunately Jim will want a ballcatcher there. I'm just hoping Jim will be captivated by Soriano's basestealing. He seems to value that sort of thing.
  15. Well, that kills any interest I might have had in Leyland.
  16. If I were a journeyman player at the tail end of my career I would hollow out my bat and fill it with steroids. Getting caught would be an awesomely cool way to end an otherwise lackluster career. That would make him a first ballot HOFer, right Colin?. If there were an HOF for cheaters, then yes. Putting steroids in a bat would be far cooler than anything any other cheater has done.

  18. Neifi needs a Cubs history lesson. In the year 2003 we had 2 starting pitchers named Mark Prior and Carlos Zambrano, each with only half a season in the big leagues under their belts, and they totally kicked ass and people respected them plenty.
  19. The plan was solid? Is Jimbo not aware that he created the worst offense in baseball? Certainly losing DLee was a big blow but even with him the offense is bad.
  20. I don't think Hendry views Izturis as untouchable. I think he'd go in the right deal. Yeah, I think there are other GMs who think as highly of Izturis as Hendry. I'm holding out hope that he is traded to one of those teams for a legitimate major league player, and not another young Neifi. Will people get off this *#%$ "young neifi". Izturis isn't a "young neifi" ok. Plain and simple. Give the guy a chance to rebound from his injury. Let's call him "less durable Neifi".
  21. I have no proof of it but I always suspected Dusty really loved Neifi's habit of showing up at every mound conference. I hope Neifi continues this habit in Detroit, where it will likely be viewed less charitably. It'll be like "uh, you're not in Chicago anymore, and we really don't have more than a passing interest in what you have to say. Please stop bothering us."
  22. I'll never understand how Neifi could be so fat in the gut and ass and have stickman legs. http://www.outlawnet.com/outlaw/sisters_middleschool/fun/lang/gian/neifi.jpg
  23. I'm an anti-Hendry guy but I have to give Jim props for finding a way to unload this albatross contract, even if it was an albatross of his own creation.
  24. Barton Mobile was an awesome value in its day. I have a Barton 2500+ Mobile currently at 2.2 ghz @ 1.55vcore with a Thermalright SI-97A. It was at 2.3ghz @ 1.65v but I backed it down a bit since I haven't gamed in a while. With a bit of overvolting I bet I could get to 2.5ghz but I haven't tried to push it that far. Barton is pretty old now but I don't really need anything better at the moment and I need my money for other stuff anyway.
