  1. El Duque and now Williams. I can see why they're doing this. I mean, it's not like they have anybody else that could fill that 5th starter role.
  2. No, we're talking about Baker, not Joe Morgan. Who was it that had the sig last year quoting Dusty saying "You can't walk across the plane" followed by a list of runs that walked across the plate against the Cubs?
  3. It might have had something to do with the nine walks.
  4. Wow. Corey's having pretty much *exactly* the season I expected him to have last season.
  5. what future moves would he hamper? the cubs desperately need another slugger, and are going to have to pay big bucks for one. beggars can't be choosers.... The team is 7 games below .500. Tejada is unlikely to be the difference between that and winning the division. Given that, what is the benefit of trading away talent to get him? Especially when some of that talent is at the same position? Just getting another slugger isn't going to save this team, and the buy-a-solution method hasn't been proving to work. If this season is going to be a wash, then it seems better to let the young players we've invested in gets ome experience and determine the future of this franchise. And I can't imagine how you could figure that adding 14 million annually wouldn't affect the team's bottom line--very possibly more Tejada's production affects the team's chances.
  6. a) His name is Tejada, not Tejeda. b) If it is determined that this team isn't going anywhere currently, the last thing I want to do is to trade young, developing talent for a big contract star who may not make a significant difference immediately and may hamper other moves in the near future.
  7. Man, Jones is gradually but steadily unsucking.
  8. that's because you say idiotic things. agreed. does baker really get race-related hate mail? i kind of have a hard time believing that. I have a hard time understanding why you have a hard time believing that.
  9. C'mon Vance. You know it's much more effective when it's a single, long nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo DO NOT WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNTTTTTTTTTT
  10. There were people. I thought he was an improvement over 2005 Patterson (who wouldn't be?). But I also thought 2006 would be an improvement over 2005 Patterson. I didn't imagine Pierre would be *this* bad, though. It's as if he's going out of his way to illustrate exactly why those of us who believe high contact rates and speed to be vastly overrated (it's mostly a case of mistaking cause for effect and not taking into account the established result profile--IE, statistics.) in a player who contributes nothing else, such as Pierre. In my desparate attempt to look at the bright side, I an only say that this makes it that much easier to determine the direction of the Cubs' future in center field, as Pierre can't possibly be blocking Pie for more than this year--possibly not for more than another couple of months.
  11. You can't seriously expect the GM to say "Yeah, you know what? Turns out these guys just suck. My bad."
  12. I was watching on the NFL Network, so I can't really say for certain, but the bit I did see on ESPN didn't look so hot.
  13. The Dolphins' line is talented, but ancient. Outside of Taylor, they have Vonnie Holiday, Kevin Carter, and Keith Traylor. Roth had one outstanding game and was in the rotation by season's end. I expect him to get deeper, with a chance at winning one end job if he has an exceptional camp. With the Dolphins going to more 3-4, his size could work against him. I like the kid, and think he can be a major asset and help take some of the pass rush pressure off of JT. As for why Wright fell, I have no idea, but I'm glad he did.
  14. The Dolphins' 7th round has me in awe. With the #212, they got a small school project DT named Fred Evans. With the #226, they stole Rodrique Wright from Texas, a very good DT or possible DE a lot of people had going in the 2nd round before the draft. And a projected 3rd round WR, Devin Aromashodu from Auburn (thanks for that pick, Chicago) gives them size and speed (6-2, 202, 4.35). For a draft with no 2nd, 5th, or 6th, I'm pretty happy with out the Dolphins made out. A high-ceiling OL prospect, two WRs (a possession type and a speed type, both with size), a great safety who can also play corner, and two athletic DTs with DE potential. Nice.
  15. But Tyson Chandler just hurt his ankle. :( :( PS: I hate Bill Walton. That's only because you have ears.
  16. Wow. I have *never* seen that happen before.
  17. And my satellite gets knocked out again right before the Dolphins pick. *sigh* Derek Hagan, WR, Arizona St. Looks like good value. Scott Wright had him as the #4 WR available. More of a possession type, but really poished route runner with quickness out of the cut, but not much playing speed. Interesting.
  18. Dolphins coming up. Lots of good WRs still on. I know Saban likes Aromashodu a lot, but he may still be there in the fourth. Wonder if he'll wait or take one of the other receivers with the #82. Still some good DL and OL left, as well.
  19. Wroten finally went.
  20. Houston just won in the draft for those last two picks.
  21. 25 picks until the Dolphins draft again. *sigh*
