  1. If he got sore playing first..... Plus...we can't keep Hank White's bat out of the linup. Not by choice, but because nothing can stop the immovable force that is BlancOWN's mighty bat. I like the use of "immovable force" to describe his bat, as he'd probably be better of with it not moving.
  2. He's gonna need to go nuts for that to happen. Wells, Sizemore, GMJ, Granderson, and Damon are all in front of him, production wise. I think you may be underestimating the public/manager's outlook on stolen bases, seeing as he currently leads the league. He's pretty much being Carl Crawford with more, well, everything. And OF isn't voted on by specific position.
  3. I'm a big fan of Patterson's. I wish he'd cut back on the K's, but he walks, has pop, and is a good basestealer. If he can settle in in the .280-.290 range at the MLB level, I think he has a Todd Walker with speed/better defense upside, possibly better.
  4. He seems to be working specifically on going deep into counts. He's struck out looking a ton the last couple of weeks, and walked more. We should wait it out--he can only get better for it if he's allowed to work through it.
  5. April: 77 AB, 10 walks, 13 k May: 84 AB, 8 walks, 12 k Not a huge difference. I expect a power surge from both Murton and Cedeno soon. They both have sub-.100 IsoPs, and I don't see any way that maintains itself. They're both more powerful than that.
  6. A photo of Ozzie kissing his son in a traditional Venezuelan manner answers what now? It was a joke. One that was told numerous times last October. I'm not sure the implication of his sexual orientation would have anything to do with intelligence anyways. But that's a can of worms we don't want to open again, right? Killjoy. Yeah, it's totally his fault you told a joke that was unfunny at best and prejudicial at worst.
  7. Jacque roaming center? Noooooooo Does it matter that much who's playing bad CF defense?
  8. Man, I'd be so much happier with Juan gone, Jones holding down CF, and a serious hitter in RF. Jones would be so much more valuable there, and it'd be that much less likely that Pie would get rushed. I'm liking Jones right now, though it's hard not to like somebody who's red hot. I'm still concerned about his relatively poor OBP, but the SLG right now makes up for a lot of it.
  9. FINALLY. Ronnie's not a slugger, but the alck of XPHs is ridiculous. There's no way he's a sub-.100 IsoP hitter long-term.
  10. I think it's just as unlikely that he will perform at May level for an entire season as it was that he'd perform at April level for an entire season. I still don't like the deal, as it seems unlikely he'd produce at this peak rate for the next three years and justify the deal he got. But I'll be rooting for him nonetheless.
  11. You often jump on people for generalizing (and rightfully so), so I must ask, to whom are you referring? Everyone probably wasn't the right word, but the vast majority of responses regarding Lofton were less than favorable. I'm not one to point fingers, but I don't remember a whole lot of support back then. There were a LOT of people suggesting that signing Lofton for one year was better than trading for Pierre if you had to have a leadoff CF. There were concerns about him being able to sustain his 2005 level of performance due to BABIP, but a lot of people (myself included) much preferred a cheap signing over an expensive trade for an overrated player.
  12. Gotta love it when a core part of your offensive strategy is to be more successful when not hitting the ball anywhere.
  13. Should've traded that guy. Can you just imagine how good this team would be with Luis Matos?
  14. Aardsma's doing his best to shove it to you, Mojo. :D
  15. Isn't it great how our 7 & 8 hitters are better than our 1 & 2 hitters?
  16. Just woke up. 9 ground outs to 4 fly outs? Huh? also, yay Kerry going 6 and looking good. If he wasn't coming up in the bottom of the 6th, I'd guess he'd have a shot at going into the 7th.
  17. I just got home. What is going on here?
  18. Glendon was due. I didn't expect him to come back *this* good, though.
  19. Man, Pierre almost had his third RBI!
  20. ...you thought he was 19 coming out of college as the supposed "best college pitcher ever?"
  21. Yeah, that's certainly the impression a thread title that calls him "Dumpster" and suggests putting a fork in him gives.
  22. You have to have two men on to hit a three run homer.
  23. The stats above prove the value of speed. Do you see how high we are in triples and steals? Don't mind that caught stealing stat, either.
  24. The more I think about it, the less sense it makes. This team has Derrek Lee. The man was a monster last year, hitting .335/.418/.662 last season, yet was still 21 RBI behind Andruw Jones. Was Jones more "clutch"? Runners on Lee:.309/.428/.568 Jones: .236/.345/.478 RISP Lee: .331/.480/.653 Jones: .207/.335/.386 So Lee was still awesome in "clutch" situations, and Jones was nothing special with runners on and downright horrible with them in scoring position. So how did he get 21 more RBI? 5 homers doesn't explain that at all. No, it was the SIXTY extra at-bats with runners in scoring position and SIXTY-ONE extra at-bats with runners on. Even a guy hitting .207 is going to get another 12-13 more hits in RBI situations when he has sixty more chances to do so. Having a .356, .354, and .383 OBP batting in front of you is what gets you those extra chances. THE ANSWER IS RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU. YOU WATCHED IT HAPPEN ALL LAST SEASON, JIM. YOU CAN'T SAY THE MAN WASN'T CLUTCH OR TIMELY ENOUGH. THERE IS ONE REASON AND ONE REASON ALONE FOR IT. I know what it is. We all know what it is. Why are the Cubs so afraid of the answer?
