  1. I completely forgot about Lim. Also, random thought, but what gets people throwing sidearm in the first place? I especially wonder how the submarine sidearm pitchers got the idea to throw like that.
  2. Almora BB/K by month: May: 2/4 June: 3/14 July: 11/10 Vogelbach: April: 7/12 May: 14/25 June: 14/17 July: 16/12
  3. 10% exactly, 211 PAs EDIT: Whoops, that's the last 2 months. Last month, 11% 100 PA Even better. Villanueva has the rare 0-2 with 2 RBI night so far. Alcantara 2-4 with a double and a k.
  4. Based on what? Most of the reports I've read on him pegged him about this level. Hopefully he'll get better but anyone expecting a superstar may be a bit optimistic. He's having a decent season. I'm not sure why there is any reason to think last year's level is his true level as opposed to this year's. Age is a positive but doesn't guarantee anything. I'm encouraged that Castro seems more selective but discouraged at the weak contact he generates in hitter's counts. So if you look for them to peak, is that next year? Two years? To me, the problem is the lack of talent in the upper minors. The Cubs need to improve 5 positions - who is going to play OF? Who is going to play 2b? Alcantara? Olt at 3b? If and when are they productive? What is the rotation? Who is in the bullpen? A lot of holes to fill. Maybe you shouldn't be reading baseball player projections from public bathroom walls?
  5. ah, there's the semantic nitpickery we were missing.
  6. Jay Jackson was amazing that one year, though.
  7. How is it possible for a guy to have a "high-effort delivery" and still hit 95 "with ease"? Those terms seem to be contradictory. I wouldn't think so. I'd assume the high-effort delivery refers to how loose and how much body/strength he has to put into it, and the ease is more about consistency of hitting that velocity.
  8. Considering how deep the system is in offensive talent, it's weird that there's so little to care about at Daytona. DeVoss is the most interesting, which isn't saying much. Moving to the OF + declining contact rates make him pretty forgettable in spite of his awesome walk rate and speed.
  9. Doesn't help that Alcantara has been ice cold the last week or so either.
  10. ...you realize that doesn't make it any less crazy, right?
  11. Alcantara's nickname should be LiiiiiiLiiiiiii as per his signature.
  12. Agreed. I was hoping for Whitley. So was this guy http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lxlc2xd3791qk7pano1_500.jpg
  13. If he'd been starting in the majors this never would have happened.
  14. .............................................I was hoping we'd be the rare team that didn't have one of these embarassing videos out there. At least it wasn't officially put together by the athletic department like the georgia and south carolina ones...
  15. I have a few major memories from my last trip to Florida (Orlando). Great weather, International Drive is exactly the same on one end as it is on the other, toll booths every damn where, and holy crap does the tap water there taste bad.
  16. For those prospects, with Barney and Valbuena in the way, you make vacancies, though. Not sure if that's what you were alluding to with the last part. That's my point. Obviously they're not going to just keep 6 guys to play 3 positions, so somebody's gotta move, and soon.
  17. That whole dynamic is further complicated by the fact that their two highest rated prospects at AA or above (not including Olt) are shortstops, and Castro is blocking them both. If they were both to make it to the majors at close to the same time, they'd have to switch positions to 2B/3B to fit into the lineup, where there currently are no vacancies. Ignoring Logan Watkins for the moment, there's a very real possibility that, if no one is moved, the Cubs could be trying to find a way to fit 6 players or more into 3 positions by the end of next year. Clearly something has to give.
  18. On the flip side, Hannemann 2 for 2 with a walk.
  19. it's amusing looking at our offseason top 50 and seeing that 4-10 probably wouldn't make our top 10 for next year. Also, UM, it's Alcantara.
  20. The Cubs don't necessarily have to increase payroll to improve, since they won't be paying Marmol, Garza, Hairston, Feldman, or whoever else they end up trading (I don't know how to count Soriano for this purpose if/when he's traded). Of course, some of this will be affected by pay raises, arbitration, etc., but the point stands. They probably won't go on a huge spending spree, but there should be enough currency in budget and prospects to get a difference maker or two and make this team more competitive next year.
  21. I feel like the only question marks on that list are Olt and Vizcaino. Olt because he has to continue to be productive at AAA while not losing rookie eligibility before season's end, and Vizcaino because he hasn't pitched in two years. Everybody else is a virtual lock for most, if not all, top 100 lists IMO.
