2006 FRAA for Cedeno: -2 2006 FRAA for Izturis: 0 Hooray! Izturis is really leaps and bounds ahead of Ronny defensively. Also, I'd like to note, again, that in his Gold Glove season, Izturis had a negative FRAA. That's right, he was actually WORSE THAN AVERAGE AT FIELDING IN THE YEAR HE WON THE GOLD GLOVE.

Wrong..It would piss off the City and the neighborhood around the park. THats why there is a city ordinance that prohibits the Cubs from playing more night games. wrong. the city wouldn't care. your only real point is about people in the neighborhood, and guess what...not one of them did not know what was in their neighborhood when they moved there. the majority of people that live in that neighborhood now live there because of Wrigley field and the amenities that built up around there. the ordinance still exists because there are a few very wealthy neighbors of Wrigley that hold more sway than the majority of the people in the neighborhood. many areas of Chicago have changed dramatically over the past two decades, Wrigley should be no different, and the economy in the area would only improve with more night games. more people would be better off if more night games would be played, few would be in a worse position. the people that bitch about the crowds or Wrigley are like people who move in next to a landfill and then complain about the stink. they came to the nuisance, and should have known that said nuisance would get worse long before it got better. Please xplain to me how in the hell my economic position would be improved by the Cubs having more night games.

1. Nobody said anything about booing him. 2. We didn't really improve our defense. 3. A lot more people were positive on the Barrett trade, mostly because his contract was cheap, especially as compared to Izturis'.

I think he can save us 30-40 runs a year on defense. He can make 4-5 extra outs per week, which will save us 1-2 runs a week. These will come from partly some balls that he can get to that other people cannot, and partly doing things like turning more double plays effectively when he gets the chance. I think 30-40 is on the high side, but whatever. How many runs would someone like Tejada get us over the course of a season with his offense? Hmm-well, I'd say again about 4-5 hits a week, but that will cause us to get 2-3 extra runs a week because some of those will be XBH, so more like 55-60 runs. The difference between the top 5 shortstops and everyone else offensively is too high to make up for the change in defense. I will be at this game tonight, out in the bleachers, wearing a ridiculous orange open-collared shirt to show off my chest hair, a pair of aviators, skinny chino pants, brown patch shoes, and a brass lamp chain necklace. Its easy. 1) Defense is not our problem. 2) Maddux's contract was up after this year, so his millions come off the book, we could spend it somewhere else. 3) Izturis's contract is in the range of $4-5.5 million for the next two years for production (both defense and offense) that is the same as Cedeno's who would do it at a fraction the cost. edit: 4) we could have had one of Los Angeles's better prospects (who were cheap and have a WHOLE LOT more upside then Izturis) insted by most accounts. How the hell do we know that we could have had one of LAs better prospects? Just because somethings been reported doesen't make it the truth. Will Carroll is very reliable. But even if you don't want to believe we could have had Kemp or Guzman, please address the other 3 points. So if they are such great prospects and be can't misses, then do you really think Hendry would pass them up? I agree with point 1. Point 2. What was Maddux making this year, 9 million? So now there is 4.5 more to spend. Point 3. If we upgrade the outfield are Izturis and Cedeno going to hurt us offesively? 1. x 2. they paid the Dodgers $2 million, and they're taking on Izturis' contract, which is for about $1.5 million more this year, so their $4.5 million in savings is about $1 million after all that. Also, they're not going to apply that $1 million to next year anyway I'm sure, because they're the Trib. 3. Yes.

He said the same thing that people have already posted in Baseball Discussions from the pregame, but he added in that he was going to trade Maddux for "a couple of good prospects - they have a great minor league system" when he found out Izturis was available.

I haven't bothered to read back to this point yet since I just got the computer back up and running, but was anyone else amused by the length of that inning when Hendry visited the booth, and the amount of uncomfortable silence it produced? Also, could it be any more obvious that Len hates the trade?

Pierre's defense is fine, he doesnt' have the best arm but what you want from CF is range. Barrett's defense is another story though. I agree. Let's just ignore for a second that Pierre actually isn't above average defensively because his range isn't all that good because he gets terrible jumps and say he's good, and instead concentrate on the best hitting catcher in the National League, who certainly can't make up for his defensive shortcomings, which aren't all that bad to begin with, by hitting the living crap out of the ball. Oh. Wait. I don't agree.

I, for one, am very excited for that day in December where the people that crunch salary numbers in here determine that he's tied up enough money in crap to pursue a top tier FA in either of those 2 categories.

I thought all 3 were pretty good.

I wish he'd give up the charade, to be honest.
