  1. How does one go from the National Geographical Society to the Baseball Hall of Fame? In fact, how do most people end up as administrators or other employees of the Baseball Hall of Fame? Is there a search commitee? Do the enshrined players have a role in it?
  2. Marquis Grissom is a fiery clubhouse presence.
  3. What are you thinking? You need SPEED at the top. it rattles the pitcher and stuff. good thing we didn't follow your methods, Billy. I know you were being sarcastic, but, for what it's worth, Milton Bradley and Derrek Lee are pretty fast, and they're two of the top three! They're not 50 steal threats, but at least they don't slap at the ball. But you want players that slap at the ball and leg out infield hits. they're the hallmark of a playoff team!

  5. Explain. I like Barrett in the 5 hole. Decent OBP, good gap hitter. better OBP and SLG than Jones, definitely.
  6. How does anyone, anywhere, think Jacque Jones is a 2-hitter? Damn you Edward K....
  7. US is looking impressive tonight without the internationals. Missed last weeks game, but happy with the style of play. Dempsey has been very impressive. Dempsey has been awesome. I'm encouraged.
  8. The X games should get curling
  9. There's nothing like sitting down with a beer and watching curling. Nothing.
  10. They added about 7 rows in the corners, which is where most of the home runs that go onto the streets go over. That'll certainly reduce the number of balls going out there, but it'll be no means eliminate them. I'm also not sure how big of a deal that is to most fans. As I noted in the other thread, those aren't bleacher seats that cost $60. They never were. And the restaurant takes away fans only in the sense that it allows there to be more out there. Or by letting fans rent it out on non-game days. I'm not sure why people expected to go in and out of there with east from the bleachers. And I'm not sure why people would even want to be in there instead of in the seats unless it's raining or cold out. I'll reserve final judgement until I see the finished product and can get out to the bleachers, but it looks like the renovations are coming along well. How much higher will the seats be compared to the old fence that held in some balls? Will there be a new fence just as high? We don't know yet.
  11. That's not true. Wrigley will probably still have the worst and fewest bathrooms in the major leagues. And crappy food. Seriously. Where else in Chicago can you not get toppings on your hot dog?
  12. I think the bottom line is that we have to accept the fact that Wrigley is going to be like pretty much any other ballpark in about 10 year, with the exception of the location, the ivy, and the scoreboard.
  13. Bitter? he might be bitter, but he's right.
  14. The Giants manage to do it without random street killings.
  15. but thats the left center bleachers. I thought the bleacher box seats were going in on the far right field corner... like above this knothole thing. You're right. that's just a picture of the molds for the bleachers currently going in. They're working from left to right, so right field hasn't started to be poured yet.
  16. You left out the part where he showed us what he really thought of us.
  17. They did it the same way last year, but there were plenty of tickets left for every series. I think the box office only got through the first 500 to 1000 (depending on who you ask) before 10:00 last season. I got opening day after buying tickets to four other games. yeah, actually now that i went back and checked my old records, I got opening day seats too. And considering that i didn't get in for the 1st 2 hours, and that the first tickets I bought were for the White Sox Saturday game, I think i was off on my estimate i do, however think that the White Sox games will be very tough to get this year. Which is fine, because I wouldn't be caught dead in Wrigley for any of those games.
  18. by the time I got in after 2 hours, the Red Sox games were almost totally gone, but I landed bleachers for the White Sox weekend games.
  19. brokers don't get tickets set aside for them (except for the one owned by the trib)
  20. paging Nilo i personally was in the VWR for about 2 hours before the first time I got in. I got in approximately every 20-30 minutes after that.
  21. brokers do need a wristband. in fact, they have tons of people that they pay to go get wristbands so that they have the opportunity to buy tons of tickets.
  22. All of the games will still have availability at 10. they simply can't push through enough ticket purchasers at the stadium in the first 2 hours in order to sell anything out. however, if you don't get through the VWR within the first 30-45 minutes, probably, opening day (and the White Sox games) will be gone.
  23. Or maybe they want to reward those who came out a got wristbands. Nah, it's more for the "pomp" of the long lines than anything. That way they get free advertising on all the news programs for the 2 days leading up to it by showing everyone in line for wristbands.
  24. Some numbers from 2005: (Pitcher: RSAA, ΔRE) Farnsworth: 16.0, 18.8 Lidge: 15.8, 16.4 Rivera: 25.4, 28.7 Eyre: 12.7, 26.0 Wagner: 24.1, 24.0 K-Rod: 12.2, 13.6 Gordon: 18.2, 9.8 Dempster: 12.0, 12.4 As you can see, most of these reliever's change in run expectancy was pretty close to their RSAA. (Where RSAA was league ERA-player ERA * (IP/9).) Still, Farnsworth looks to have performed a bit better in high leverage situations as his ΔRE was a few runs better than his RSAA. The only real outliers of this group are Eyre and Gordon. Eyre never seemed to give up a hit with someone on base, while Gordon seemed to enjoy padding opposing batters' RBI totals. Fantastic! Fantastic, fantastic, fantastic. i tell ya though, i still get a feeling in my left kidney....
  25. you can buy them online
