  1. And at 29, Walrond supasses Rich Hill as the oldest member of the starting rotation. Do you think Dusty's torn about calling the oldest member of his rotation a rookie?
  2. I disagree. I think this still is an issue that needs to be addressed by Cubs management. Whenever there's anything resembling unique revenue streams (rooftops, the new addition to Wrigley, the bleachers, heck even their own scalping business), the sports media has taken it upon themselves to ask the right questions and get answers from the right people. Even if the Cubs don't stop the practice, they at least acknowledge its extistence. If Wrigley and Cubs coaches are being rented out to the highest bidder, it should be publicly disclosed and not have this cloak and dagger feel to it. I think Bruce is on to something by asking Dusty how it affects the team, but I think it goes higher to folks like MacPhail and John McDonough. If the field is saved for the major Cubs sponsors like Square D, Budweiser, Cingular, etc., that's fine. But it is WAY too unseemly to have this go on without the fans knowing about it, especially if the money is going straight into Cubs coffers without improving the product on the field or the stadium itself.
  3. When did this practice even start? I can't find any mention of it on Cubs.com or anywhere else for that matter. Secondly, is this money going directly to the Cubs organization or to Cubs Care? I know a lot of the non-game related, on-field opportunities for fans go to Cubs Care (which it should in my estimation since we're paying enough for tickets). Regardless, if this is interfering with on-field play, it needs to go.
  4. Yep, nothing like taking BP in the beauty of February in Chicago.
  5. Can we call up minor league managers to see what they can do with a Cubs lineup?
  6. How about a little help for those of us without insider?
  7. It ain't over til the fat left hander sings?
  8. You know, just to be safe, they should trade us Utley for Pierre. We'll keep him out of Rowand's way.
  9. How long before these sorts of stories affects the Cubs' ability to get higher-profile free agents who aren't lilly white? I can't help but think that as soon as Dusty is given his walking papers, these stories are going to become more prevalent because he's going to use that as one of his excuses for not being able to succeed in and why no minority players should choose the Cubs as their preferred free-agent destination.
  10. He complained constantly about his lack of playing time in Texas and SD, from all accounts. And Bruce has made mention of the fact that he's very antagonistic with the media, often berating younger players for talking with reporters.
  11. Remember those games when he wasn't in the starting lineup and didn't make a late-inning appearance. Yeah, those were good times.
  12. He's always seemed to me to be a less successful Dusty Baker. 3 playoff appearances, 1 WS appearance, and only 4 winning seasons out of 10. It's not like he's had bad teams on the field, but I don't know if he would be the best fit for the Cubs.
  13. Not to be snotty, but why root for the Cubs? How about because they're a team that everyone on this board has an emotional investment in? How about because it's counter-productive to root against a team that you supposedly support? I think it's kind of ridiculous that fans would want to see their team lose games in the hopes that next year will be better. They're still a form of entertainment, regardless of the product on the field right now. While I may not support many decisions made by management and dislike the production of several key members of the team, I still would like to see them win.
  14. Sell high!!!! Sell high!!!!
  15. Welcome to the mind of Jim Hendry 2005 Cubs = 2004 Red Sox (all chemistry, all the time) 2006 Cubs = 2005 White Sox (small ball redux) 2007 Cubs = whoever wins it this year
  16. But my point is his affiliation with the Mets has nothing to do with it. It's MLB wide, not to mention, all of pro sports. http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h184/soccer10k/0504_large.jpg Oh, sad. Can we just go back to making fun of NY media, the Mets and baseball hoochies?
  17. Let's all admire the fact that the Israeli-Hizbollah quagmire plays second fiddle to infidelity on the Mets. I mean, did the guys at the Onion get a hold of the Post?
  18. All Dunkin donuts begin to smell and taste alike the longer they sit in those trays. I have to give it to Krispy Kremes for their freshness.
  19. Is it wrong that I tear up a little every time I hear how excited Ronnie gets during and after the double play?
  20. Oh, come on. Scoreboard races aren't that bad. They're fun ways to pass the time between innings and get people talking to one another in the stands. Yes, yes, I know, "Watch and talk about the game." But seriously, there's bigger things to complain about at baseball stadiums. 1. Price of food and drink 2. Price of souvenirs 3. Sight lines (Support beams at Wrigley, I'm looking at you. . . )
  21. That is some crazy spin the ball gets going horizontal. It's interesting positioning, almost like a splitter, but held in a Vulcan "Live long and prosper" grip. I wonder why more pitchers haven't experimented with it.
  22. What exactly is this "gyro-ball." I hope it has nothing to do with gyros, the wonderful cuisine served with cucumber sauce.
  23. -cough- Dontrelle Willis -cough- -cough- Ricky Nolasco -cough- -cough- Joe Borowski - cough- Boy, I sure have a tickle in my throat.
  24. That would make me upset too. What reason do you have to believe that is what happened? Because Hendry said so himself on an interview on WGN TV during a telecast after the trade. I think we need to send up the Bruce signal for clarification. To paraphrase John Kerry in Jim Hendry's position, "I wanted prospects before I didn't want them."
  25. And the rains have called a temporary halt to the game. . . I still blame the Cubs.
