  1. Maybe it's mentioned in another thread, but NSBB got a shout out in the Sun-Times article today: w00t!
  2. Tony Larussa is an enabler. :flame:
  3. You're absolutely right. How can I have been so blind to your argument. Tony Larussa has never done a bad thing in his managerial career and holds no accountability to his team. Thank you for clearing this up for me. Whatever, I'm done.
  4. Steroids were not a new invention in the late 80s. In fact, they were still illegal in the U.S. for nonprescription use (and still are). Turning a blind eye to needle use of any kind in your clubhouse is even more ridiculous. So you don't see any correlation between people prone to heavy drinking with free access to liquor and potential drunk driving. Huh, interesting. If he's only there to win, he should enable steroid and other PED use because that will increase the chance of winning. The well being of his team and its image doesn't matter.
  5. Okay, you convinced me. He's an enabler! :good:
  6. I may be misremembering, but didn't Canseco claim to shoot up McGwire in the Oakland clubhouse when they were both A's? If so, don't you think that Larussa would have some kind of domain over what's going on in there? Not to mention that McGwire had andro clearly visible in his locker in 98. You can use the "it wasn't banned" argument, but at the same time that doesn't make it right. And wasn't part of the reason that the Cardinals eliminated booze from the clubhouse because of Hancock's death? Again, you would think that Larussa would have a hand in keeping an eye on his players while they're "at work." I'm not sure I would call him an enabler, but he certainly doesn't seem to concern himself with the health or well-being of his players so long as the team is winning.
  7. This is like being torn between two parents. Can I just say that I love you both and hope you won't make me play favorites? Or is this coming to come up during the divorce proceedings?
  8. That's a shame. I really liked Clement as a pitcher and as a Cub. If there's any one pitcher on the Cardinals that I want to succeed, it's him. (Of course, I want him to be lousy against the Cubs as a professional courtesy).
  9. Nice article on Prior in today's Sun-Times. It makes me miss his potential as a Cub, but at the same time, it's the standard "it'll be a month before he faces hitters" and "I feel better than last year" that we've heard for years.
  10. How is it that Neifury hasn't been mentioned yet?
  11. Paul Sullivan posted his first report of spring training. For the record, his first line of the report added to my already irrational hatred of his stories. We Chicagoans get it. It's been exceptionally cold and snowy here all winter. And yes, there are warmer places than where we currently reside.
  12. So long as he wasn't washing cars with Jeff Kent or doing practically anything with Rocco Baldelli, I'm okay with this. He has as much a risk of getting injured getting out of bed in the morning as anything else in life.
  13. Given the current political climate in Illinois, I don't see the state buying Wrigley for any reason. The state legislature is still fuming over the recent transit funding debacle, and the idea that the state will then buy the governor's favorite ballpark is probably the last thing they want to do. Zell has some interesting maneuvering to do with selling this team.
  14. To get completely apart from this current debate, my boss is the biggest Bostonian you will find. He purposefully has come to my desk to show off his Red Sox 2004 and 2007 gear. He has gone to great lengths to showcase why the Patriots were better than the 2006 Bears. he is in the midst of a Celtics experience. In essence, he is a douchebag. I've never rooted for a New York team harder, and I am never going to enjoy going to work more than I will tomorrow. :D :D :D Continue the whole Eli sucks thing. . .
  15. So if Murton goes back to the BoSox in this trade, the entire Nomar experience never happened, right?
  16. I certainly wouldn't mind if they knocked down Mullens regardless of whether the construction extends that far. But that's just me.
  17. As part of their "Hot Stove" topic discussion, today's will be Wrigley versus Fenway hosted by Neyer. Even though he claims he can't choose, he certainly waxes more poetically to Fenway. http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/chatESPN?event_id=18993 Just wanted to FYI everyone.
  18. It should be noted that the federal marshalls did advance to second on the shot.
  19. He's going to knock it down, but build them a new space in the same complex. The owner of IO is excited by that prospect (which I concur with because it can get hot up in there).
  20. The last thing that area needs is more residential traffic. It's congested enough as is. And then there will be the chorus of people who end up moving into the residential tower complaining about the noise and crowds that Wrigley draws in. If they scrap the residential portion and keep the hotel, I'm 100 percent okay with it. The North Side doesn't have enough hotel space for visitors. You're either stuck downtown or out towards the airport. I'd love to have out of town guests, but don't want to put them up in my house for more than overnight. I'm a jerk like that.
  21. I can see a situation in which the Dodgers aren't in contention and Furcal has a banner year turning into a nice midseason trade for some team.
  22. Wow, aside from the fact that J-Gone blew out his knee in his first at-bat in 2005, I would think that the saturating stink of steroids on his career would keep teams away. Apparently the Cardinals have no such compunction.
  23. I got infield terrace box seats for the following games: Reds (04/17) Mets (04/21) Brewers (04/29, 04/30) Padres (05/12, 05/15) White Sox \:D/ (06/20) Orioles (06/24) Phillies (08/28) Plus side, I don't have to worry about sitting around in the virtual waiting room when general tickets go on sale. Minus side, I'm probably going to need to take my mom to most of the games since she's splitting the cost with me. Nothing like a grown man with his mother at a Cubs game. -sigh-
  24. Damn the virtual waiting room! Bane of my ticket buying existence!!!
