  1. If I'm going to trade Z and bag a big name in return, I'd rather seek a three way trade and get Miggy Cabrera than ARod. Get whatever prospects that Florida wants for Z, then send those prospects plus Murton if need be to Florida for Cabrera. Either that, or see who else the Mets would throw in on top of Milledge for Z. Milledge alone doesn't do it, but he'd be a good starting centerpiece. I'm assuming a move of Cabrera back to the OF? If we could land Cabrera, which would seem unlikely, it would be one of the best moves out there. I hope Loria dumb enough to let him loose That would be the plan. We don't need to improve at 3b or 1b, we could use more production in the OF.
  2. I'll be quite happy with Marquis if he pitches 180+ innings and finishes with an ERA under 4.00. That'll be another success story there.
  3. Has he had a good one since ST ended? lol, I'm just mad because he needed to be hitting to the right side. Wasn't there 1 out? Who cares what side he hits it to. Hitters should always be looking to advance the runner. There's no guarantee Blanco can score from 2B on a single... You can't predict the future, Lilly might have singled. It was a bad at bat by Izturis! wrong. hitters should always be looking to hit the ball hard. whether that means pulling an inside pitch or going the other way with an outside pitch. this "advancing runners" thing is no good. I disagree for a light hitter like Izturis. He isn't going to get many hits period so he needs to be better at moving guys along. Agreed, especially early in a game. Hitters should always be looking to put good wood on a pitch they can drive. The only exceptions are maybe late in close, low-scoring games when you start looking to scratch out what you can. If this were that kind of situation, Izturis probably would have been bunting, and Lilly probably would have had a PH in for him.
  4. You can when looking at Lilly's offensive history. You never know. Remember when Alf got the big RBI when the ball he hit actually hit the bag and caroomed out into the field?
  5. Starting pitching has been outstanding, for the most part. Wade Miller just doesn't have the "stuff" he used to. Zambrano is now a known slow starter. Hill, Lilly, Marquis are all pitching better than expected. Plus, Dempster has been perfect thus far, and he got Cotts back on track after a truly awful ST. Let's see if he can get Howry and Eyre back to being top-notch setup men, and he'll get all of the man-love any pitching coach could handle. I'm liking what I'm seeing out of the pitching staff. Really makes you wonder how little Dusty must have listened to him when he was here.
  6. yes, i did see that stat on yahoo. but those guys are just slumpin, ur lucky u dont have izturis, blanco, and jones. u guys have pujols, edmonds, rolen, that little dweeb eckstein, who all usually have high averages. its just early season slumps, thats all. not to mention ur manager has won in the past 17 years, unlike ours True, however Preston Wilson is the Anti-Christ. Can you claim your lineup features the Anti-Christ? No, you can't. We suffered through two years of Neifi Perez. That's what I thought. [-X Let me add to that...We suffered through two years of Neifi Perez, including significant time as a starter, AND our leadoff/#2 man!

That's hardly the problem.
  9. If I'm going to trade Z and bag a big name in return, I'd rather seek a three way trade and get Miggy Cabrera than ARod. 10. I liked Meyer's response to a reporter who asked if he'd be able to throw harder since he was going to be working in shorter stints now. "Let me let you direct that question to my arm." He then put his arm up in the reporters face.
  11. Back to the original trade idea, is anyone else concerned with whether or not ARod could move back to SS? I wouldn't think it'd be easy to go back to after a few years in your 30s. Not that he wasn't a good SS before, but it's a harder position to play when you're older, and ARod never really had a typical career SSs build on him anyways. I'm not saying he can't do it, just that I don't know if I'd make that move banking on him making that transition seamlessly. Its risky. If he couldn't do it, you still have Izzy on the roster, but now you're obligating yourself into either trading ARam (and you'd lose bargaining power if the other team knows you must trade because of the logjam with ARod), or convince ARod into moving into a corner OF position, and trading someone else. Risky proposition no matter what.
  12. If he were to move, I'd rather see him move to RF than 2B. We already know he can't play 2B, we already have two other LFers, and we already have a RFer that wouldn't mind being traded nor would any of the fans mind seeing him traded either.
  13. I didn't know he'd been asked previously to move to LF. I don't like the idea of someone who is new here and hasn't lived up to his hype yet trying to exert influence in the clubhouse. If he's offering that up on his own, then no, it's not an overreaction. If he's already trying to exert his influence in the clubhouse, then it's not too much of a reach to call him Sammy Jr. If it's an innocent quote taken out of a larger conversation (i.e. he wasn't offering that on his own), then yes, I'm overreacting. I don't want Murton or anyone else to lose playing time because of Soriano's (or any other player's) influence.
  14. http://www.sportsline.com/mlb/teams/report/CHC/10134835 Murton must be sitting on the bench thinking Soriano considers him chopped liver. I like the fact that he's taking to and looking after felix. He shouldn't be treating other teammates like they're nothing in order to do it though. Let the coach figure out who plays where and when, quit trying to play coach yourself, Sori. You're a newb on this team and you haven't done jack to earn your pay here yet, so in the mean time, sit down and shut up.
  15. If it were already June, I would say sell high on Marquis. Sell it as if Rothschild fixed something in his delivery/approach, and that is the cause for his 2.whatever ERA. But it isn't June yet, so he isn't going anywhere. Hopefully Rothschild really did pick up on something with him and what we all feel is inevitable with him (Estes, part deux) doesn't ever come to be. (yes, I know he could waive it, but we all know it isn't going to happen).
  16. I'll echo this prediction. 5 straight quality starts by Cubs starters is what I want to see!
  17. Here we go again. Maybe he can pad those stats in August and September when the games don't mean anything... that's better than the 0-30something he put up to begin last year.
  18. I'm perfectly fine with him at lead off. And I probably won't be changing my mind on that anytime soon. I'm torn on this one. Normally, I would say his skill set is more appropriate for hitting behind Aramis. However, his historical dropoff in production when he's not hitting leadoff makes me hesitant to gamble with his slot in the lineup. Any gain we might make by putting someone with higher OBP would be more than overriden by the drop in production from Soriano. That is, if you assume his historical splits between different positions in the lineup holds true.
  19. Don't tweak anything giving yourself a pat on the back. If ever a statement deserved this:  I was about to comment on a newb with 23 posts criticizing the whole board until I saw this post. I figured you'd already said more than I could have.
  20. He lost all credibility when he had the Astros winning the division. No way that happens.
  21. Now that a little congressional pressure got the baseball deal done, where are they on the NFL package?
  22. They'll probably shut us out...
  23. When I saw the title of this thread, the first question that came to mind was "Why is Bonds stealing bases? Doesn't he make enough to buy his own?" When you have it in your head someone is a cheater, you always expect the worst.
  24. Not taking sides, but you really haven't provided any evidence to support your claim that the slightly higher ratings will actually equal higher profits for WGN. It was a more than slightly. In advertsing, rating are key. Both Nielsen and Arbitron show the Sox won the ratings battle in the most desired age demographic. Again, no evidence there are differences in rates, just an assumption. OK... Are you contending that the ad rates for each team are directly tied to television and radio ratings only for the prior season and nothing else? If so, how do you know this? Go back and read what I wrote. Considering how no one really knows exactly how the Trib keeps their books insofar as revenue derived from television broadcasts of the Cubs (how much of that goes to the Cubs, how much of it to the Trib), I don't think it's really possible to say definitively one way or the other.
  25. I'm glad Pierre said that. Hopefully he'll scare other crappy players like himself from wanting to come here to play.
