  1. Talk about no respect though...The Astros pitched to him a few innings earlier with one out, then intentionally walked Fox on the next at bat. They intentionally walked Bradley with ARam on first and no outs to get to him. They showed him absolutely no respect at all, then he wins it on a walkoff grand slam. They only way that would have been better is if we were playing the Cards instead of the Stros!
  2. I don't see the correlation there. The roid guys aren't banned, and would still have to get voted in. They're separate issues. It would affect Shoeless Joe, but so what.
  3. And he put his money on his own team. It wasn't like he was throwing games or anything. That part doesn't matter. You don't want managers getting in debt to gambling sharks. Gambling for your team is just as bad as anything else. If he got in the hole to them, he could be convinced to fix the spread or something like that without actually betting against his own team. That said, I say let him in as a player, keep the ban on him as a manager in place. Not only let shoeless Joe in, but give him a full pardon, which is the right thing to do. And screw the Hall for still not letting Santo in, so I really don't care one way or the other anymore anyways.
  4. That's easy...just pawn it off as a Bobby Hill jersey to someone who doesn't know better. er...wait...
  5. I'd be iffy on getting any pitcher post-Dusty.
  6. That trade would help improve the Dodgers, so I'm hoping it doesn't happen. Yeah, we proved we can hit Rhodes, chances are we won't do that every time out.
  7. Steve Stone = John Madden = Captain Obvious He's way overrated as an analyst, just like Madden always was (yes, I know Madden was more well known for his color work, but he was still an analyst).
  8. I can understand why anyone who lived in St Louis would want to end their own lives. I mean seriously...hell's got to be an upgrade, right?
  9. I could care less about his ego. The problem is that he's ten times the baseball announcer than anyone in the Cubs booth, both the TV and radio side. I don't want to be friends with him, I just want a quality baseball broadcast. I will give this to Stone. He taught me that a slider low and away with two strikes will likely get the hitter out. Other than that, I've got no use for him. I thought the guy was psychic when I was 10 years old watching him, the way he could predict that low and away pitch on an 0 and 2 count. Now I realize that he's just like John Madden was as an announcer. He's Mr. Obvious.
  10. I've never been so disappointed with a Cubs team that was in first place this late in the season. This is weird.
  11. Steve Stone is a loser. I was upset when he left at first, but now I see it's one of the best things that happened to the team. It might be right behind the day they finally let Dusty go.
  12. Dudes' the best leadoff man out there... ...that's sitting on the Dodgers bench.
  13. The evidence doesn't show that. In July he is hitting .245 and in June he hit .273. are you serious? his OBP is like 60 points higher in July than in June. I thought you were better than this. Yes I'm aware. However, I don't think that is what the poster was talking about. Is taking walks considered to be "signs of life"? Usually that term is applied when someone is hitting the ball better. no, signs of life means being a more productive hitter. but by all means, keep dancing dance dance dance And there for a second I thought you were about to make your first worthwhile post.
  14. The evidence doesn't show that. In July he is hitting .245 and in June he hit .273. His OBP has risen steadily every month. He's not been a source of power this year, but he has gotten on base very well the past couple of months. Maybe we need to bat him second then if he's going to continue to be all OBP and no power.
  15. Right now the clock is on their side. No reason to see if there is at least one GM dumb and willing enough to part with a comparable package before adjusting your asking price. They really have no incentive to trade him now as opposed to Thursday or Friday.
  16. So you don't want a reliever who has an era under 2 and a whip under 1? :-k Call me crazy but he would be an asset to the bullpen. If, for nothing else, by giving us the flexibility to swing Marshall back to the rotation if needed, it'd be a smart move. The fact he's been performing far better than an average LOOGY is just gravy.
  17. Am I the only person that thinks our farm has taken some big steps forward this year, and could actually be average by league standards next year?
  18. Their stats on the year are skewed by the horrible performances we got at the beginning of the year. So, if you're judging how good they are or aren't as of right now based on their cumulative ERA and WHIP for the year, then where they were at the beginning of the year does matter, because you're painting the wrong picture because of it.
  19. No package with Wells or Rios as earlier reported? There's got to be more to that deal, I can't believe the muts turned that down straight up.
  20. He's never had a professional at bat. Can't be any worse than Miles.
  21. I'll take Sherrill as the PTBNL in the Rich Hill deal, please...
  22. Hell, the deadspin link posted above has a picture of Mariotti, and they cut his face off at the nose! That ought to tell you something.
