  1. They need pitching, and will obviously need a replacement for Tejada. Williams and Cedeno? Also opens up a lot of cash for other moves for them.
  2. Corey's never struck me as the most "fluid" of athletes, if that makes any sense. I don't think that would work at all. If we can't trade him, I would think it would be worth trying out in ST though. If he can't do it, then we've lost nothing.
  3. Great trade for the Sox. If Marte rebounds at all this year, then it's a good trade for both teams. I think Pitt is taking more of a risk here though than the Sox.
  4. Corey's pretty athletic and has a good glove. I wonder if he could work on learning the MIF positions in spring training, and back up 2B and SS. I would think that if he could do that without looking completely lost by the end of ST, that would greatly increase his trade value.
  5. As far as CPatt goes, the Nats just shipped off two outfielders, and have shown they're capable of being ripped off. That's where we need to focus our Corey efforts.
  6. Speed is fine, but he cant steal to save his life, he gets caught 25% of the time. 75% is a very solid percentage. To say he can't steal to save his life is absurd. 75% is borderline. Not particularly good, but not terrible. How many guys with over 15 SB attempts have a higher percentage? I think you would find he's in the top 15% or so, I don't know exactly. 75% would be above average for guys that do a bit of running.
  7. I don't buy the story. I think Ofman's full of it. The agent wouldn't leak something like that and burn bridges with a GM...it's bad business for future clients. If all it took was another million, I'm sure that Hendry would have been for it, and the Trib would have allowed him. He's gotten a budget, he would have just had less to spend in other places. MacPhail isn't going to micromanage how Hendry spends his money as long as it's not an something that's just flat out stupid (like signing Neifi to a 50 mil contract or something blatantly stupid like that). What I think it came down to was we weren't going to pay stupid money like LA did. I think Ofman has an agenda and is fishing from less than reliable sources. He could have gotten it off of a message board. Either that, or an agent is going in and doing some damage control for his clients rep, as now everyone thinks he's all about the money.
  8. Even if AZ were willing to deal Green, why in the world would you think their GM to be silly enough to take a $2.x million dollar bust for a guy who is capable of being in the top 5 of NL outfielders.. Although, I know Green has a background in Chicago, so that would not be a problem. But anyone who heard Hendry on MLB Radio yesterday knows that Patterson is gone. Because Green is not a CFer and that's where they have him penciled in right now. Right now, the Diamondbacks need to move outfielders. Troy Glaus is at 3rd base and they re-signed Tony Clark for first base. The have Luis Gonzalez in left, Chad Tracy in right, and Shawn Green miscast in CF. They still have no place for Carlos Quentin and Connor Jackson. Trading Glaus would be ideal for them, but as of yet no takers. They'd probably love to trade Gonzalez, but he's old and expensive. Green may be the best trade chip they have unless they want to move one of the prospects. Defensively, they will have problems with Green in centerfield. Don't get me wrong - I like Shawn Green, and would prefer him over Luis. But with Green guaranteed $21.5M over 2 years and his 26-team NTC, I just don't see it happening. He wasn't thrilled leaving LA and moving to Arizona, if you recall. Of course, if the D-Backs kick in some dough, and like Jeff said, the Cubs picked up his 2008 option, things could change. If he wasn't thrilled about going to Arizona, then wouldn't it be logical to assume that he wouldn't mind a trade out of AZ as much as he did leaving LA?
  9. That may be true but, have you forgotten the Cardinals Midas Touch? They could put a cardboard cutout out there and it would get on base a .370 clip while slugging .500+ I'm preparing for an OBP of .380+ out of Miles and SLP of .750+ from Taguchi next year. Don't forget that Cardboard Cutout would probably win the gold glove in CF for them.
  10. CPatt plus pitching to TX for BWilk? (I haven't given up hope that we could nab him yet...)
  11. For the same reason you don't know whether or not he'll be the next Ricky Henderson, for the same reason we play the game throughout the season despite the fact that some sportswriters seem to give division titles out based on the offseason. Corey Patterson's failures to live up to his potential in no way has any bearing at all on whether or not Pie will live up to his or not. Comparing him to Patterson at this point just flat out isn't fair.
  12. all 3 were declined Were they still taking up spots on the 40 man prior to this?
  13. I was really hoping to have a BWilk on our team...
  14. I wonder how hard Albert Belle tried to come back those last three years Baltimore was paying him over 10mil per when he didn't play a single game...
  15. I think they were going to have Lopez and Ramon take turns at catcher while the other DHs. Good way to keep both of your catchers in the game, and keep them fresh at the same time. I thought there was a thread on this move already, or was that on the backup board when this was down earlier?
  16. Or if he gets hurt, they have millions riding the DL... You know Dusty will give him ample playing time...and he'll either be productive or hurt. If he's productive, I can't see him getting traded. It'll mean more bench time for RonnyC.
  17. Yeah, but is he hitting the cut off man on purpose?
  18. Do you work for XM??? Maybe he owns stock...
  19. Possibly the most beautiful city in the country. No offense to you other Californians, but it's the only city in California that I would ever even think about living in. I would have liked to have seen him leave. That organization isn't giving a whole lot of respect to it's best, most faithful players, and they don't seem to be putting their best foot forward at improving the team. While some of you may doubt whether or not Hendry is making competent enough of moves to improve the team, I have no doubt that he really is trying his best to make the team the best he can. The Pads don't deserve to have guys like Giles and Hoffman resign below market.
  20. I don't get it...other than a few missed spaces, I don't see anything wrong with the article.
  21. And paid high. haha, i know. i'm just trying to make this less painfull. i hope we get jack wilson. then this offseason will really rock. I can't believe I thought well of Jack Wilson until someone recently enlightened me. He's been around longer than I thought, I thought last year was his second year for some reason. Jack Wilson would be a servicable MIF backup, that's it, but we already have that, in Neifi.
  22. he also said that they're targeting milwood. offman knows nothing about baseball, and he's right there. Ofman first reported the Pierre story a month ago saying that it would likely include Pinto. So, um, he may know a little something. The anti-Score sentiment here is pathetic. So that makes him 1 for 100?
  23. Unless he's a backup and doesn't cost anymore than Welly, that is...
  24. I'd rather stick with Neifi and Ronny C up the middle.
