  1. I don't really think it would take Prior. Philly took a chance...Prior's missed a bit of time the last couple of years, they were probably hoping we were souring on him a little, and decided to see what kind of response they got. I can't blame Philly, and all things considered, it was a reasonable thing to ask. That doesn't mean that is what we would have to give up to match up with them though.
  2. You don't think they could have gotten more than a bottom of the rotation pitcher for him? I'm not a Casey fan, but the guy can hit. He's the closest thing in baseball today to Mark Grace Jr.
  3. I like player E, as his prime years are ahead of him, and I think he's over the injury bug  .
  4. My buddy the O's fan suggests that Javy would become the DH and backup catcher. I guess that makes sense, as catchers play fewer games than any other starter if healthy. Now you can get them both in every game.
  5. Ramon Hernandez to the O's? I thought they had Javy as their catcher. They must have soured on him if they're going to replace him before his contract is up.
  6. Atlanta obviously doesn't mind the young guys, look at their roster last year. Should we strike first for Lugo, then investigate a RonnyC for Marte trade?
  7. why the heck would you sign Renteria for a 5 year deal last year only to trade him after one (yes one year out of 5) subpar season right after they traded their long-time heir-apparent to SS (Ramirez)? fixed.
  8. He's supposed to get on base, then get past first on his own. That's the job of every hitter, whether they hit first or eighth. Pierre does the former pretty well(not last season), and has never done the latter well. It hurts his value because he can't provide as much at the offensive end. Throw in his poor defense and less than stellar baserunning capabilities, and he's just not worth it to me. how does a guy with his speed have so few doubles? Too many triples? :jocolor:
  9. In all fairness, a couple of guys have mentioned him as being part of the reason they signed here, including one of the relievers we signed this offseason (I don't recall which). No one I would call major though.
  10. I think we're seeing two things here: 1. How much Theo meant to that team, and 2. Why he left them.
  11. Didn't we sign Alou when Baylor was still the manager? Thinking back to Baylor actually makes me appreciate having Baker as a manager (well, at least a little anyways...).
  12. He wasnt a free agent was he? cause we had to sign him before the Arby date didnt we? He did file at the beginning of the off-season last year. We had to sign him before whatever the date is where you can't negotiate with your FAs anymore until May 1 unless you offered them arbitration.
  13. Nomar was a FA last year.
  14. No, Ismael Valdes. Juan Valdez? No way. He'd threaten Baker's favorite player's (macias) job security.
  15. I wonder if anyone has asked Kent if he wants to move positions. Knowing his disposition, that could make for an interesting situation over there...
  16. Don't you think you're being overly dramatic? Make that waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay over-dramatic?
  17. What's the over/under on Colletti lasting longer, or not as long as Depo?
  18. thanks for the news. i'm really curious to know what Pierre is going to bring in this market. I know this is going to drive everyone nuts but my guess would be Williams was offered. i hate you. I'd be mad if they offered a year's supply of bats and batting practice balls. One or the other, and you gotta fair deal. Both, that's overpaying.
  19. Wow, what a wierd trade. Obviously a salary dump from Cincy's perspective. Casey is a more valuable ball player then Williams, easily, if only it weren't for his 8.5 mil salary. Who would have thought that Pittsburgh would be a trading partner in a salary dump, unless it was them giving up the salary?
  20. Why? Was Dusty on the radio too? No, but basically what Rogers said was Baker had a meeting with the media and somebody asked him what he thought about Murton and Cedeno and Baker's response was something like"If I dont play them I dont play young people." and then went on to justify how he plays young people like the bull pen and back in his days with the Giants. Typical Baker. Baker, from Cubs.com: "If I don't [play them], I'll be accused of not liking young players," Baker said, referring to one of the criticisms he's heard. "Look at my bullpen last year -- it was the youngest bullpen in baseball. You've got to give the young players a chance to play sometime. Certainly you have to live with some mistakes." He gave young guys out of the pen a chance only because of a lack of viable veteran alternatives, not as a matter of choice.
  21. http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Real_Alternative.htm Cool...didn't know about that. Thx for the link.
  22. I hate realplayer. I won't let that crap program anywhere near my computer.
  23. I hated the Dodgers already, now I loathe them.
  24. If there's nothing to announce, then I wonder why it was postponed from 5:30. If there isn't a trade to announce, he must be working on one, and thought he was close enough to have an agreement in principle by now but was wrong.
  25. Since Hendry seems bent on trading TWalk, I think he'd be a great candidate to hit behind whoever ends up being our leadoff man. Either way, I wouldn't complain with him in our lineup.
