  1. Be funny if they end up with Tucker as their big signing this offseason, and then add a SP that low cost.
  2. Might give Long an opportunity in ST 🤷
  3. Cubs writers seem to always put Hoyer/Cubs down as being interested in certain big name players that fits a need, and it possible Hoyer or Hawkins will give an agent a call to say hello and see what they're looking to get and that will ignite a Cubs checked in or are interested write, but yea 99.99% of time it means nothing and they never make an offer.
  4. We can dream 🤷 Seems like it all we can do when it comes to the Cubs acquiring players 🙄🙄
  5. Astros and Orioles... Be cool if the Cubs were actually trying to get him, adding him and Imai would really make the rotation solid and allow them to trade a SP for a prospect or a bat.
  6. Winning 92 games was great BUT.... I said it was disappointing AFTER the deadline because of no real upgrade to the roster and YES they hung on by going 4 games over 500 the rest of season since the DEADLINE. So my answer to the question, do I think Winning 92 games and a playoff round loss was successful is No because it ended up being disappointing after the start they had because of failing to build up the roster at the deadline and they ended up playing basically 500 (4 over) ball the final 2 months, that to me is hanging on. Ok, maybe they didn't need to hang on in the end for that playoff spot because they had finished with a big lead against the Reds and Mets, but it was close at one point, and had to hold off the Padres for HF in WC round.
  7. Yea it hard to say owner/management had WS aspirations when they failed to upgrade the team at the trade deadline and basically stayed as is, especially after losing 7 of 10, 2 of 3 against Milwaukee, and going from 1 up to 1 back in that span. 2025 was successful for Ricketts/Hoyer because they competed and made the postseason, but as a fan it was disappointing because they gave you high postseason hopes up to the deadline and then basically just hung on the last 2 months.
  8. Exactly and they pretty much did the same with the young cost controlled core they had after 2016. They lose Fowler and instead of adding a veteran solid bat/leadoff type hitter they turned to a rookie in Almora for a couple seasons before trading them all away.
  9. Until something drastic happens, this offseason is shaping up into exactly what I had expected going into it. They stay as is with the everyday guys they have and rotation, and basically just add some pen arms, bench bats, and possibly a depth type SP or two. OD payroll will be around 220-225 Also, Even if Imai chooses them, that will be their only big addition and theyll likely be done adding outside of probably a couple low cost and or minor league contract depth guys.
  10. Gotcha... maybe theyll actually give Long and or Murray a legit opportunity in ST to make the team over Kingery, they both play CI, Long can play OF, Murray a SH.
  11. I figured Gallen or someone in his tier too, like you said it fits perfect for where they stand money wise if Hoyer still plans on holding money for ahem in season moves while staying under Threshold. They're about 43 under now, so yea 20-22 mil on a SP, and maybe 5 more on pen or bench will leave him close to 15 for that famous in season moves, which feels more like replacing the crap bench/pen guys that horsefeathers the bed in April/May then actually adding a big bat and or arm at the deadline.
  12. I wouldn't be looking into potential everyday guys anymore, they're settled with who they have already and likely felt this way going into the offseason. The only question revolves around Caissie and when they plan on getting him up to play RF everyday. OD will likely be... Amaya Busch Hoerner Swanson Shaw Happ PCA Suzuki with Ballesteros DH
  13. My guess is Hoyer probably has an offer on the table with low years(4-6) and likely with options and Imai(Boras), is waiting to see if another team (of his preference)will swoop in with something more and guarenteed. Im a bit surprise he hasn't made a decision by now with the holidays coming up, but i guess he can wait til the final day January 2nd and make it then after the holidays.
  14. Imagine if Hoyer and Ricketts had Banks, Santo, Williams, and Jenkins now, they'd be allowing them to walk as FA after 5-7 years through ARB or trading them away over paying them and giving them a longterm extension. Since 2010, the Cubs longest tenure players are 7 ( Hendricks, Rizzo, Bryant, Contreras, Baez, Hoerner, Happ) guys that came up from minors and just played out contract with 3 ( Hendricks, Hoerner, Happ) getting a little extension. All good players but no stars
  15. He'd likely accept the kind of contract that would fit what they'd offer to stay under and give them belly room during season, something like 3-4 yrs at 18-20M per.
  16. I could see Hoyer offering 7-8 years but with options the last 2 or 3, but who knows, being that he'll be 28 in May, maybe he'll want to test the FA market again in 2-3 years and accept a shorter deal.
  17. Hoyer likes to puzzle piece his bullpen every year with guys under the radar on 1 year cheap cost deals , but yea it would be nice if by doing that hed spend on an impact player or two on a starting pitcher and or everyday player.
  18. At least he's good...
  19. Crazy looking at the Cubs payroll for 2027 2028 and 2029, their current guarenteed contracts is just 39 30 and 26 mil total for those seasons, with Swanson being the bulk of it 28 27 and all of it 26 mil in 2029. How is that even possible in today's MLB for what supposed to be a big market team, to only have one guarenteed major contract for the next 3 seasons and he not even a big star player... There is absolutely zero excuse for this
  20. Current payroll minus the Arbs, theyre outspending them already.
  21. Padres still adding on... https://x.com/i/status/2003163846769541497
  22. Would of been better then snagging the guy from Japan but you know Cubs weren't spending more than 2 mil even on a much better bench bat, let alone 6.
  23. Hoyer making splashes this offseason with depth signings. That should put them over 200 million
  24. Id expect the next two days could be pretty busy with some players and teams wanting to get deals/trades done before the holidays. I hope Hoyer has something good cooking
  25. If im the Sox, I have him taking batting practice everyday in ST against guys and machine throwing over 95 so he can get used to it and work on timing.... I will be interested in watching him hit and see how he looks
