    Didn't say theyd be as good, I said that they also have those two guys in iowa they can use next season to replace Shaw if they dont add someone else. No there's no sure thing for utility players, but it doesn't help adding guys that are bottom of the list choices. My personal preference for a bench... You have 3 utility bats outside of backup catcher, At least 1 guy should be like the 10th man that can play multiple positions and be a good enough hitter. This year it Shaw The other two guys should be a mix of either defense, power, or speed

    I would hope if they trade Shaw in offseason, that theyd do a better job with adding bench guys then they have the last couple years. Let not forget they also have Triantos in Iowa who can play OF and IF, and also Cowles. So if theres a trade to be made for Shaw in offseason to improve team elsewhere, they have a couple guys who are capable to replace him from Iowa if not elsewhere.

    That i agree with as far as trading him in the offseason. Shaw could be a piece that could net them a good pitcher for 2027, especially if he puts up some good numbers this season.

    Exactly, I dont think they can afford to trade Shaw now, hes the only one they can rely upon off the bench. (Catchers aside) They obviously don't plan on using Kingery or Carlson much in any situations, and Conforto is garbage. Maybe theyll give Carlson an opportunity this weekend over Conforto, and I think at some point later in year we might see a couple guys from Iowa brought up and given an opportunity.

    Cause Hoyer goes the cheap dumpster dive route when looking for bench guys, hoping to catch lightning in a bottle. Yes I've complained about the bench the last couple years, not because im looking for 5 guys that can hit 300, but because good successful teams need guys off that bench that they can count on to give them successful ABs more times then not when called upon. They started the last couple seasons with terrible players like Madrigal, Cooper, Burti, and Brujan but eventually end up replacing them and ended up with 1 guy playing well. You'd like to have 1 or 2 of your bench guys with an at least 670-700 OPS Cubs main bench guys in 2024 with 100+ PA Mastrobuoni .470 Wisdom .629 Tauchman .723 Cubs main bench guys in 2025 with 100+PA Berti .493 Castro .485 McGuire .688 Turner .602 Outside of backup Catcher and Mo, Shaw can be a high 600 guy if his power stays up, outside of him, i dont see anyone else that will even reach 600 OPS for this season.

    What a terrible game by the bats... Conforto is a useless addition to this team as I said all along, might as well give Carlson a shot at this point.
