  1. fassero vs rusch..rusch is much worse. fassero was like 80 when he came here and actually saved our tail for a while. fassero was never supposed to be anything other than a loogy. he certainly was better than rusch has been this year. dave smith was a bad pick up....let's see shoudl we sign a change up throwing, flyball pitching closer for wrigley field...sounds fine! i have to say that ryu(?)was pretty awful in his cup of cofee..but at least he is young
  2. there is not "one" thing that can fix the cubs. if i must pick, i'll say fire hendry. to me that then gets dusty out the door, and could/should be the end to wood, prior and the entire coaching staff. the problem is not that our players are hurt, it's that our gm built a team that relys on wood and prior to be studs and aram and lee to be studs, that when the injuries we all know will happen to wood/prior and the freak accident to lee happens..we are arguably the worst team in baseball.
  3. nevin hits his 5th cub homer. i know he is not awesome but we could we please see him everyday, at least until dlee is healthy. at least if we are going to play guys that hit 250 and have low obp could they be ones that have power.....
  4. At least we will have a nice rotation next year (and healthy *crosses fingers*) Prior Z Wood? Marshall Marmol Samardja (sp?) Maddux? that rotation is not good. promising, yes..but major league good? no i wouldn't mind seeing it but i would prefer if we end this year with marshall, marmol and guzman getting 2 months worth of starts. I like it
  5. i have said this most of the season...i would rather be young and bad than old and bad. the only reason rusch should pitch is to try to get his value up. if he is around after the break(and pitching)..someone has to be fired
  6. i am really sad to see jeff come here. he will join the list of promising young pitchers that have been ruined by the cubs! i guess it's good spending money during the school year! at least it will make his decision on football or baseball easier.
  7. we must look at the bright side. wood came back, prior came back and dlee is just around the corner. the cubs said that dusty would get a chance to manage his team that was supposed to start the season. so the sooner everyone is back, the sooner dusty is gone. the sooner a new manager comes in and this team still sucks, the sooner hendry is working at mcdonalds.
  8. back spasms flare up..but they don't last for 15 days. of course a strained shoulder doesn't put you on the shelf for 3 months either.
  9. For all the problems the Cubs have had developing hitters, they do have a gift for getting the best out of their pitching prospects (when not injured, that is). At 21, Danks might be a worthwhile project, and I'm skeptical that Wood would stay with the Cubs in 2007 as a reliever. you're joking right?
  10. add in this little nugget...if we make the moves to move prior and cut loose wood...our 2003 team will be gones except for z and aram. alou, loftin, patterson, sosa all gone aram came midway, agonz, grudz, simon all gone wood, prior, clement could all be gone. jobo gone mercker gone farns gone remlinger gone perhaps we should look a little harder at our gm's moves
  11. the sad part is our payroll is more than tampa, florida, pitt and kc combined. forget about firing baker, someone please tell me how you can let a GM spend 95 mil for two years and finish 45 games back(at least) and make a run at the worst record in baseball and the NL...if we finish behind florida with a 15 mil payroll(that would be wood plus neifi) or tampa at 30 mil(that would be wood, prior, jones, neifi, pierre) hendry has to be fired!
  12. isn't it funny that our 2 best pitching prospects arrived with very little fanfare..marshall and marmol were not even mentioned with the group of hill, guzman, brownlee, wuertz, mitre, christenson and so forth.
  13. why when you have a closer that has had 6 days off and you are getting beat 7-1(like last night) do you not get him a freakin' inning? guess rothschild felt he would be better on 7days rest...
  14. someone mentioned it earlier but to win 90 games we have to go 71-41...i would say that is a bit more than 14 games over. i would be shocked if 90 won the division or the wild card...i would be even more shocked if we went 71-41!
  15. you guys are so far off base it's crazy! we have no problem at all with our #5 starter! the problem is we have 4-5 of them! what we need is a 2 and 3 starter. maddux and marshall can handle the 4-5 spots...it's the fact that they are 2-3 and no one is 4-5!
  16. my thoughts are this...if womack starting now means less neifi and allowing hairston to play a little rf vs lefties then it can help short term. if it means having a middle infiled of neif and womacj against anyone but the toughesy righties then dusty must be fired. if we are 15-20 games under and he plays anyone like womack, neifi or hairston over murton or cedeno-and hopefully pie after the deadline..except for days off. then he must go. if the front office doesn't recognize this...they should go. we have said it many times this miserable year...it is far better to be young and bad, then old and bad!
  17. #1 we need to cheer very hard for pierre, so that he can be dealt atthe deadline and maybe we can get some prospects beck for the ones we gave up. #2 don't just compare manny and aram...how about ortiz vs everyone else on the cubs? we have the worst ba with guys in scoring postition! how many runs do you think youklis would have with us? let's see 5 homes runs = 5, obp .431= 2 more runs for us. so he might have 7 runs!~
  18. i would buy the sacrificing velosity for command if there hadn't been a whole lot of talk about his lack of velocity during his side sessions. we'll have to watch the next few starts but prior will get lit up at the major league level if he can't break 90.
  19. guys we suck. we are awful. we need better players. we are overpaying for garbage...let's quit worrying about overpaying for good players and just get some. we pay wood 12 mil...i'll take zito for 10. we pay pieere 6,jones 6 and neifi 2.5...i'll take furcal for 13. we have 95 mil dollar payroll and 75 of it is either awful or hurt. also we are paying maddux 9 mil. i love maddux..i hope he wins 17-18 games but next year without him and wood we have 21 mil to sign top notch starters. if we dump prior we have even more. we can easily sign 2 studs and a middle of the road guy to add on to marshall and z...and could even have miller in as insurance.
  20. i 've got 2 words for you before you think he got harsh punishment rudy tomjanovich. and that happened in the middle of a fight/melee.. physically attacking someone like that is a dangerous thing..nothing happened but next time? look outside of the game... spit in someones face, you don't even get a ticket, just an argument attack someone like barrett did and you go to jail.
  21. we have discussed a fire sale and who we should move and who we should keep. th eproblem i see is that we have no one that anyone really wants. we have some players that people will take. we have some players that people may send a prospect for but we have very few that we can trade to get better players or to package in order to fill growing needs. Lee, Zambrano and Marshall should not be touched. if we were a bit closer to winning the series i could deal marshall but we are rebuilding- actually i'd call it building since we haven't really been good enough to rebuild pierre...he will go, he will not get us even 1 prospect near the caliber of the ones we gave up unless he gets red hot. he is more valuable because at the deadline he will be a 2 month rental that the team can drop if they want after the season. perfect to fill a hole or injury jones..no, no one will take him unless we pay a huge chunk. he is overpaid and too long a deal to go anywhere this year. cedeno should only be included if a top flite ss is involved. barrett could get us a top prospect or young player especially if a serious contender loses a catcher aram could help a contender and is one player that might get us a ready/near ready prospect. wood could be a rental but no one give us much more than a very young prospect. he is expensive and a free agent. if he comes on value goes up but trading a free agent to be at the deadline does get you as much value prior..would have to get back to majors and show velocity and toughness. he is worth very little right now. we should not touch the bullpen. we want/need anyone that we could trade and no one would want for the ohmans and weurtz' of the world hill has lost any value. he is a lefty so someone would take him but we would not get a aaa pitcher back. rusch is basically the same..just probably gte you less because he costs more and is finished getting better no upside. williams, guzman, brownlee..some value but we could not get a top prospect for anyone but maybe guzman. so we would be trading our aaa staff for a single or double a staff. i love murton but who could we get for him? maybe we could get a high priced player that someone wants to dump like aram but that may be tough to duplicate. we are seriously stuck. we do not have enough good position players to do a marlins and we can not trade our vets for anything near being ready guys like neifi, hairston and bynum would not get us anything except maybe someone's expensive disgruntled, injury prone player. (like sosa) we seriously may be looking at 3-5 years before we dig out of this mess.
  22. 10 games is right on. as much as i liked it. barrett was way out of line. aj was a legal play. barrett's play was not part of the game...like charging the mound or throwing at someone. as far as the pitcher/player comparison goes the big thing is that pitchers are still paid by the game not the start..losing 20 games is 1/8 of your salary...which is quite a chunk of change on top of any fine. rogers probably made about 5 mil so he dropped 650,000 for missing 4-5 starts.
  23. a majority of our problems stem from the simple fact that he would not budge 1.5 mil a year on furcal. because of that we had to: make a move for another lead off man, at that point it was pierre or loftin. when we signed a centerfielder corey became expendable.needing more pop we signed and overpaid jacque jones. to have insurance because we now had a rookie ss, we overpaid to keep neifi. we also had to keep walker and hairston...because cedeno would not be playing second. so to save 1.5 mil we spent about 15 mil or a couple more than the whole furcal deal. perhaps if we didn't overspend on all that we would have signed another solid starter.
  24. i am really stuck on this topic! we also have no young players ready to come up other than pie. we can't afford to trade lee, barrett or aram because no one is even close. we do have murton and cedeno up but unless we know someone we can sign...how can we give up on the good players we have.
  25. also dusty has gotten ripped for the handling of the pitchers and barrett for pitch selection, when really these are both rothschild. the manager may make the final decision but it is really the pitching coach that knows the pitchers and when to use or change them...and we have been bad at that, also i watch rothschild and he calls the pitches.
