  1. ireally think it happened that way but you forgot the kicker...the agent insisted on 1 year but jim held to tight negotiation tactics and insisted on 2! the don't call him the riverboat gambler for nothing... rusch's agent wasn't that good but he had talked with neifi's agent and decided to try his strategy!
  2. He did. He got shelled. Trade value down the toilet. When did Rusch had trade value this year? The Mets were offering a bag of baseballs I heard. It might have been an effort the boost the sagging bra sales market on the east coast. that's not exactly true...they offered a dozen wiffle balls...hendry held out for a dozen game balls..the mets declined
  3. can't we call one of the many teams we luckily outbid for rusch's services to see if they still want him?...oh,that's right there weren't any...
  4. not to change the usbject from this riveting game but has rusch pitched since being activated? if not then evidently we aren't looking to deal him....
  5. a game and half up..here we come! turn out the lights the party's over.... seriously we could have their starting lineup for what we pay woody
  6. perhaps..just perhaps cedeno has finally learned from neifi, macias and womack the how to stay in dusty's lineup.... that clutch play was very neifi-like...much like the bunt last time around
  7. what is going on with the infield hits? that's about 10 so far and even nevin had one?
  8. what the heck is theriot doing in the lineup? he has to learn from his mistakes and we need vets out there! evidently someone locked dusty in a closet until sfter lineups were exchanged..comfirmation anyone?
  9. wood+prior+neifi+rusch >pirates payroll! last place here we come!
  10. listen unless we are going to make some serious moves like getting soriano..does ut really matter who plays in center? hendry has shown no interest in doing this so just sit back and get ready for more middle of teh road fixes like burnitz and jones
  11. first, hendry has never brought a front line free agnet or trade to chicago.he always deals in players with issues. he tends to try to catch lightning in a bottle also sometimes to land the guy you want you have to be ready to overspend.... hindsight is 20/20 but 15 mil for beltran seems cheap compared to the 12.5 we pay for pieere and jones. also we didn't want to overspend on furcal so we instead over spent on neifi beause we needed a vet behind cedeno, we overspent on pieere because we needed a lead off man, and we overspent on jones because we needed an impact signing. we could have eliminated all those by signing furcal for a little more money! i think it's fair to say that a lineup that corey in it with furcal is easily equal to a neifi-pierre-jones combo how about if we had an outfield of cpatt-beltran and murton? as i said hindsight is 20/20 but i still think when you target a guy that you need to make a difference you have to go get that guy! hendry would rather take plan c!
  12. not to say this is ok but let's put this in baseball context...he got 50 games for incidently? hitting an umpire with a bat..but a guy who physically-intentially attacks another man gets 5 games and that's ok? sports in general has a screwed system of discipline....kill someone and get to play...cover up a murder by your friends..get to play ball set up one of the largest drug deals and get to play
  13. i might even give dusty this fact. he may have been worth 10-15 games for the whole season. when we finish 65 wins...we could assume we that with him we would have been anywhere from 75 to 80 wins..which for 95 mil payroll absolutely blows
  14. if we can just win our last 31 games..we will have 85 victories and with a liitle help could sneak in! let's just start z every other day until we are mathematically eliminated!
  15. the problem is that dusty doesn't call out everyone and he doesn't punish everyone.. theriot does something stupid on the bases as compared to alou in the past? or bynum not covering a bag? those 2 certainly didn't get the punishment that ryan did.. also am i missing something? is bynum any type of prospect? isn't he basically a utility guy? why in god's name would we not see theriot? i know his obp is awfully high for a hendry/baker club but you can't fault the guy for getting on base!i'm sure as he matures under baker he will stop doing that! he just needs to learn that walks clog the bases!!!!!!!!!!
  16. absolutely! unfortunately i see hendry dropping at least the 6 mil he makes now on him. rememeber this the guy that outbid himself for the likes of jones, neifi and rusch...there is a serious chance we overpay for pierre!
  17. i say this all the time but here goes again. the problem is not with particular players. pierre is doing exactly what we hoped for. he is above his down year and below his best years. he is ok not great and not cpatt leading off either. this goes for jones also. he is doing as well as we could hope. right at his career averages. the problem is that they should both be complementary players not the studs. i think we would be just fine with either of them if we had picked up a stud power hitter. if we followed pierre with dlee, aram and manny rameriz...he would probably score almost every time he was on.instead he is followed by aram, nevin, barrett, jones or mabry the problem isn't pierre...it's the team that hendry put around him. remember in florida in his heydey..he was followed by pudge-who was automatic in 2003, cabrera ,lowell ,conine, dlee....that certainly helped his value. we could live with pierre..but we can not if we keep this lineup as is.
  18. none but let's see they were the favorite and in it (the series)in 2003..they were up 3-0 on the eventual champ in 2004...and 2005 the sox blew everyone out. in 2006 they have to be the favorite right now. i guess i would take that for the cubbies. especially when they have 3 wins in the last 12 years. we have been awful for 100 years..i really don't care if we sell out the entire farm system to win one time. it wouldn't take us any more than another 100 to rebuild it. this was my point after 2003 spend an extra 20 mil and give the cubs every single chance to win a championship. instead we sign latroy and tarde for an injury palgued nomar at the deadline and hope that we can squeak in...well we didn't and now 2 seasons later we are arguably the worst franchise in the league. no we are not the worst team but when the teams that are below us have a combined payroll less than the cubs, that makes us the worst franchise. seriously what kind of idiot does it take to spend 95 mil and be terrible? and what idiot gives that guy an extension? what poster on here could not spend 95 mil and put together a better team? i am not saying a championship team but a better team?
  19. Last time I checked, you win with offense too. Pitching and defense, is more important than offense. If you dont have a solid pitching staff supported with a solid defense, your not going to win many baseball games. there all pretty important when you don't have any! the cubs make up for that by not being fundamentally sound though!
  20. yeah, i would hate to have the cubs win 3 world series in the last 10-12 years,be in playoffs every single year and be a serious contender every one of those years...just awful! i think spending 95 mil to be the 2nd worst team in the nl is much more satisfying and a much better plan!
  21. i guess you are moving him around for this because he never played center, he played left.
  22. except for the people drinking blue koolaid, this was most everyone's believe back in january. add in the fact that we also said we needed at least one more starting pitcher and we had this season figured out save for the dlee injury. we were figuring on aram to break down. we were back in the 80's praying for career years from everyone so that we might contend,,unfortunately bob dernier was no where in sight!
