  1. there is no reason he has to do this in public or in the papers. we don't know if he is chewin' butt in the clubhouse or his office..he may....he may not...doing it publicly is not any more effective than privately, we would just know for sure he is doing it! bottom line is this, if you are 30+ years old with 10 yeasr experience..you should not have to be chewed for playing poor baseball/ that goes double when you are playing horribly as a team or/and individually! the tigers were playing very well and let down...so leyland ripped them, as he needed to, they got a little lazy-a little full of themselves and got a wake up call. if these guys look around and realize we haven't won in 4 weeks and haven't scored in 2 weeks...and they are hitting a buck 20. they don't need a manager to tell them they are playing crappy. if jones doesn't already know the importance of hitting a cut off man, or running the bases well, when you and your team are struggling- ripping him ain't going help him learn it! it might make us feel better but it won't change him...if you are to his point of his career, i doubt benching him would do much..it certainly hasn't helped hairston over the last 2 years!
  2. -i am very sad that this season has already fallen to the point that once again we are waiting, hoping and praying for wood/prior to be healthy in order to save us...and it'sonly may 8
  3. i don't see hendry firing dusty. he will probably not resign him at the end of the season. dusty is hendry's insulation from criticism. he takes all(or most) of the heat for this team being bad and hendry has been getting off scott free. if you fire baker and you are still horrid, people will ventaully start looking to someone else to blame...which of is hendry(and should be) injuries where their scapegoat for a while but now we are to the point where we are seeing the blame go to the guy who put this very vulnerable team together (and for 3 years of it). anyone else think the front office maybe second guessing resigning hendry? they should be
  4. and as far as injuries go i believe he was talking about the last few years. in my mind the problem is not the injuries but the fact that hednry has built our offense completely around a few players. we are so dependent on lee and aram this year that when one goes down..it catastrophe! last year the cards lost rolen, sanders and edmonds for a while and still ran away with it! this year they already lost bigby...pujols,edmonds and rolen have missed several games but they are still playing .750 ball!
  5. it was 20 games even the devil rays play well for 20 game streaks...and we were still in 4th or 5th place and only 3 games over .500!
  6. does it bother anyone that we are so poor we are getting dominated by a team that has juan cruz, shawn estes and miguel batista in their rotation? we can't even score on them! hell they all played for us and other than cruz i really wouldn't want them back...
  7. i do miss moises' production but i have to say at the time i thought we had a gm that realized we would need to replace alou and sosa's numbers but then i found out we would fill in for them with dubois, lawton, jones, burnitz, and even murton....we have had a year plau and we still aren't close to replacing sammy's and moises 75 homeruns from 04...we might not get that from rf and lf on 2 seasons..
  8. unless everyone in the central reverts to a mean of about 75 wins..we will be out by july1.
  9. i'm feeling pretty ornery..... so i have to say..... you can not underestimate the value of speed! i am done now!
  10. another question for ya.. do you think that hendry and MacPhail really believe that signing jones was a good deal? they have to but they certainly wouldn't have dropped that much cake....could they actually be that stupid? i mean there is not one piece of evidence that would tell you he was going to make a comeback! we paid am older cpatt double what we paid the young cpatt.... i'll live with pierre for now because we had to have a leadoff guy and after furcal got away, you had lofton or pierre but 3 years of jones should cost hednry his job...it just may take the 3 years to do it
  11. sorry that was way easy but it isn't it terrible that they gave away all their vet players for a 2nd time in 10 years, yet they still have a brighter future than we do. all that and they have won 2 championships
  12. to slightly change the subject from how bad we are....who do you think will return to contention first, the totally restructured marlins or the highly paid cub team? isn't it a shame that they have completely sold off their team twice and continue and still put together a competitive team more often tahn we do...the front office should be embarrassed!
  13. the problem we have is that hendry's big signings are pierre and jones, so unless one of them gets hurt or they replace murton, we will not see pie for a long time...maybe if we are 20-30 games out at the deadline we might deal pierre....i don't see anyone possibly wanting to take jones or his money
  14. we might as well keep guzman, hill and marshall. i would rather be bad and young, than be bad and old
  15. we have a chance to lose 20-30 straight! seriously
  16. why would he act fast? this is the exact same story we have had ofr 3 years. most people see he didn't do enough in the off season and then we suck...then he does it again...and we suck then he gets an extension...and we suck why change what got him here?
  17. I think dusty is allowing them to use it as an excuse to loose focus Possibly, but at some point in time, players have to take it upon themselves. I honestly can't blame Dusty for this piss poor offense. He isn't up there swinging the bats. does everyone rememeber when the one poster tried to say that losing dlee would only cost a game or two over the 8-10 weeks...yeah good call
  18. your serious..mark bellhorn is the big bopper we need to fix our bench? our bench is not the problem. our problem is our GM our problem is our outfield is worse than our very, very poor outfield of last lyear. our problem is that we did not replace nomar's bat in the lineup(although it was never in our lineup, we still had a team dependent on that type of hitter our problem we put together a team so dependent on 2 bats(lee and aram) that without them our weak offense is double Aish. our problem is that lee is hurt and aram is not hitting(lee doesn't help the aram situation)- our problem is that we are once again hoping that out stud pitchers will come back and be great... our main problem is that seriously in our next 30 games we could lose 25 or more. and that is not because our bench sucks....
  19. the problem we have is that we see these guys every day. we think they suck compered to other teams but plain and simple they are average. the cards are the team(perhaps the only) that i think has a good bench but let's compare them first most of their bench players have 40 at bats or more. most of ours have 20. as i said it's tough to hit when you do not get out there regularly. there best bench player is rodrigues who is really starting now because of bigby's injury. he has all of 75 games under his belt. he is 28 and just made the majors... luna has hit .278 for the last 3 years...he has 25 walks overthet time neifi has hit .269 for that time and has 22 walks both play good d scott spezio was a great pick up for them we got mabry ss= .271 average for 50 at bats mabry= .240 for 29 at bats this is simply a case of the grass is always greener..... taguchi is their 4th of'er he has hit .286 for the last years with a obp of .327 restovich has hit .252 but with a .331 obp bennett the back up catcher is hitting under .200 kind of like blanco gall there next of is at .200 their utility IF schumaker is hitting .179 not exactly what hairston and neifi have done and he has more at bats than both there simply is not a huge statisical difference between our bench players and the team that i feel has the best bench. looking around the league who has a good bench? who is really a huge threat off anyone's bench? julio franco? ruben sierra? no one really comes to mind.
  20. please tell me a team with a great bench! the cards were held together last year by guys like mabry. please someone tell me that career minor leaguer rodriguez is good for the cards. he couldn't even break in for a cup of coffee and he did a hell of a job. restovich on the other hand was a #1 pick for the twins and once was their top prospect.. being abench player is the toughest job around. you are obviously not a great player(that's why you can't start anywhere) and you sit around and do not hiit game after game then you get to pinch hit...usually in a clutch situation or possibly get a spot start. the toughest thing to do is hit when you do not get regular at bats. as far as obp goes...we will never have a high one from our bench as long as our bench has neifi, bynum and hairston- not that they are terrible but if they are hitting why would you ever walk them? if you go 2-0 on them a pitcher would be stupid to do anything but throw gut fastballs-i don't even know why you would throw thema breaking ball period...worse case scenario they get a single...chances are they make an out. they are simply not going to draw many walks. i think we should be more concerned with our everyday lineup being really bad.
  21. guys, i tried to tell you this in the other thread- jones is going no where, jones will not platoon(maybe, just maybe he will get a day off vs lefties occasionally). our newly signed wonderful GM signed jones to big money to be our stud outfielder. benching him or even platooning him will be admitt ing that he(hendry) made an awful mistake....and that will not happen, especially with an unsigned manager... it's ok though only 2 years and 135 games to go!~
  22. i think the mystery is that plain and simple you do not miss 3 months with a "strain". the mystary is that this is something worse and they are not honest about it.
  23. yeah...i remember how the cards and the astros have regressed toward the mean the last 2 years.
  24. here is the beauty of the situation. we have struggled with lefties for a couple years so in the offseason we add... pierre, mabry and jones, lefties can someone tell me why we didn't sign reggie sanders? we had to be able to get him for at least what kc paid him! i know our big 2 bats(or 3 if you count barrett) are right handed but rarely do you have righties that struggle against righties. not to mention that your best utility bat off the bench is a lefty( no not neifi-mabry) you have to have pierre but against a tough righty you could throw out mabry, neifi plus walker and pierre. not too bad because you know aram, barrett and lee would be playing every single day regardless. so you would have murton or sanders playing against a tough righty...i think they would be ok.
