  1. Yeah TJ#1 is more or less routine but TJ#2 is still assume the worst until the guy has re-proven himself.
  2. Ethan Roberts gave up a homerun on a ball hit 118 MPH. I...don't think I can blame that one on the conditions. Struck out the side after, he feels like a much safer bet to rejoin the big league club at home on Friday.
  3. No exit velo reading on Bateman's dong, but Triantos just donged on a ball hit 94.4 to the opposite field. Wild conditions today.
  4. Okay yeah Brett Bateman just homered they're clearly playing moon baseball today
  5. Yikes! Although, 10 whiffs so far....
  6. Assuming today goes well, I'd consider Wicks for the MLB pen as early as this weekend.
  7. Yeah I'm hoping this pairing is semi-permanent, you pretty much couldn't craft a better vet to pair him with in a lab.
  8. Bryan sort of gets at it but one of the most encouraging things about the farm thus far is the mid level guys stepping up. Despite having four guys make various T100s and a bunch of interesting guys in A Ball, the farm didn't rank well this winter largely because it lacked the 45 FV types that really make for high end depth. But with Ayers and Mathis and Caple and Sanders etc. you're starting to get like an actual fight for the back of the top 10 again, as opposed to a farm where there's not much difference between 9 and 19. In terms of magnitude it's Hartshorn/Ramirez/Rojas and then a sizable gap to everything else, but that depth is important especially if you're looking to be active in July.
  9. Despite the solid ERA Randy Vasquez was one of the worst starters in the league last year. This year he's been legitimately good but with some luck layered onto that. He probably still sucks? But especially since he added some juice to his fastball I'm not super confident in that. I'd rather have Boyd going either way but the degree varies.
  10. Yeah I suspect they're going to take their time with Steele, probably do one rehab outing at each level. Kick that process off next week and you're looking at early June. The other arms we're waiting on, pending any setbacks: Phil Maton - Tonight Ethan Roberts - This week Palencia - Next week (has a bullpen tomorrow, I'd presume a rehab this weekend) Harvey/Thielbar - TBD but sounds like weeks not months
  11. FWIW a few years ago Longenhagen was glazing Leigh and said his slider was super legit. And he's throwing about 2 MPH harder than he was at his last go-around with Iowa in late '24. I wonder if this is a Roberts/Little situation where he spent this offseason in a time machine and rediscovered some lost velocity.
  12. Uhhhhh Pedro Ramirez came out of the game today and there's not obvious context for why based on GameDay
  13. Good for him, but good lord what happened to Toronto's outfield that they're reaching this far down the depth chart?
  14. I was cautiously optimistic about Velasquez with the idea he'd go from 93 as a starter to closer to 95 as a reliever. But he actually lost velo last night? I wonder if he gets a second outing or if he immediately gets the boot for Maton today. Assad appears to be getting hit with the regression stick hard right now. He's been more than due for a long time.
  15. Imagine thinking 13 months ago that the Cubs would have a sizable SP advantage in a Colin Rea / Roki Sasaki matchup.
  16. Didn't realize the Padres were in Mexico City this weekend. Considering that's basically Coors Field south that feels like good timing for us to get them Monday.
  17. The team winning this game after Craig (correctly) waved the white flag with Rolison is diabolical. If the Brewers had won this game we'd be shrieking.
  18. Good outings from Thornton and Maton. Maton I assume goes one and done? Rejoins the big club on Sunday? Thornton's velo was below his 2024 peak but in line with the rest of his career. Curious where it goes from here.
  19. I've mind of been wondering if Velasquez might have some juice as a reliever. No better time to try than now.
  20. I'm not sweating any of these guys specifically, but setting aside the specifics the team is going to get burned on one of these lottery tickets eventually. That's just the nature of the game though. The Guardians are one of the smartest most conservative FOs in the league and they got burned on Junior Caminero in what they thought was a minor trade. The Rays got burned on Joe Ryan. The Dodgers got burned on Yordan Alvarez. etc. etc. We laugh at like Tatis/Shields but mainly they're just called lottery tickets for a reason.
  21. Pedro Ramirez is Jose Ramirez and Ronny Cruz is Fernando Tatis Jr. is not exactly making me re-think my lapsed BA sub
  22. Thielbar's hammy injury got described as "tightness". Obviously he's down today but curious if he's going to get IL'd. Bullpen is shredded, honestly wouldn't be the worst thing in the world for Taillon to get knocked around (though not so much he can't go 5-6) and let Rolison just wear it and take the game to the house.
