  1. Tangentially related: Michael Keaton would be a fantastic IGT theme this season
  2. Bastian and Mooney both with articles since last night about a Baez extension. We've been hearing this all winter, so there's seemingly something there. I'm assuming at this point the offseason plan is either: - KB out, ~$5M worth of bench help in, Javy extended, a little bit of money squirreled away for the deadline - Q out, ~$2M worth of bench help in, Javy extended, austerity deadline Probably depending on what the offers for KB look like.
  3. Ah, yes, that's right. I think I got mixed up because there have been all these split contracts which do use up a spot.
  4. I also believe this fills the 40 man
  5. Yeah I think this is right, with Winkler probably being the next guy up if any of these guys have a tough spring.
  6. He's probably the most fun of all these blah relievers, I got vaguely excited about him a few days ago when the Dodgers DFAd him. Not having MiLB kinda sucks though.
  7. This is....this is the greatest thing I've ever seen

  10. Yeah, Marcus Semien and Ketel Marte combined for nearly 15 WAR last year, it's hard for me to take declarations of ceiling too strongly anymore. Ceilings IMO are limited based on defensive value and power potential. Shifting has IMO reduced the spread between players within positions, and the juiced ball has democratized power. We're talking about a SS with above average raw power, it doesn't take a lot to get such a guy to 4+ WAR, just look at Paul Dejong.
  11. [tweet] [/tweet] Account is still active. He’s following the Mets account, Brodie Van Wagenen and 8 people who report on or write about the Mets. It's getting better
  12. Interesting arm that can be had for a song, but unfortunately no remaining minor league options
  13. Marquez comes in at #9, and is credited with the best fastball among the group.
  14. If they were on the Astros level, thatwould partially ruin it for me. If they were on the Red Sox level, that would change almost nothing. I am betting that more teams than not were doing something along the lines of what the Sox were doing.
  15. They have two fun young major league starters: Zac Gallen and Luke Weaver. They've also got a fantastic farm, but nothing super close to the majors, so one of those two would have to be the headliner I'd think. I love Zac Gallen and was surprised how quickly Miami dealt him away. That said, not sure he screams "headliner" in a trade for our superstar third baseman. Yeah I tend to agree. I think the Dbacks are similar to the Braves, where they certainly have the ability to provide fair value for Bryant, but they don't have a "THE GUY" who I would be happy with headlining a deal.

They've also got a fantastic farm, but nothing super close to the majors, so one of those two would have to be the headliner I'd think. They have like 6 SS’s or CF’ers in their fangraphs org top 10. There’s gotta be a guy or two to like in there I’d imagine. Gallen, 2 of those guys and a little something else maybe? I’m not familiar with any of their prospect names other than Seth Beer. I believe the way FGs future values work is that a 50 or better is a top 100 caliber prospect, a 45 is someone you should be happy having in your org top 10, and a 40 is someone you should be happy having in your org top 30. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/top-47-prospects-arizona-diamondbacks/ So using this list, I would think a KB deal would look like: Weaver or Gallen One of those 50 FV SS/CFs One of those 45+ pitchers, probably Martin or Bukauskus as they're closer to the majors It's more quantity than quality for my taste, but I'd guess that'd be the fair expectation.

  18. I think the fear over such a deal really depends on how much you believe in Cardinal Devil Magic. Given what Morosi said, I'd imagine a deal would look something like: Carpenter or Fowler Bader or Edman Hudson One of those top 4 prospects That would be a severe hit to their depth both in the rotation and on the position player side, and honestly on paper wouldn't be worth it in my opinion, unless they were going to spend additional money to bolster their depth. BUT, that ignores the Cards' ability to will any gritty white guy into being a league average player wherever they need one. Given that I absolutely do believe in the Devil Magic, yeah I'm gonna start scoping out forehead veins.
  19. My guess is the team is still looking at a Joe Panik type, and Kemp would have been redundant with that. Good to get a teeny bit of value for him, I assumed he was going to be the last guy on the bench and be unceremoniously cut once it was time to make a roster spot for Nico.
