Willson bailed Joe out Stop letting our poor hitting pitchers swing away in double play situations. There was a really bad Quintana one earlier this year, against the Giants I think.
That's what he always looks like when he's slumping. The question is just if this is just a normal slump or if he's gonna be broken for two years again.
I believe there's a clause in the CBA that says TJ guys can be on a rehab assignment for up to 30 days, so I'd imagine the plan is to bring him back right when rosters expand. Any sooner and it either says great things about his progress or terrible things about faith in our current pitchers.
Meadows and Glassnow feels pretty comparable to something like Happ and Alzolay. Pirates guys with a little more risk/reward. I don't know that I would have paid that for Archer but I don't know that I wouldn't have either.
Extremely Meh If we were going to grab someone so pedestrian. I would have preferred someone who really excels in one particular area. Now that Kintzler's groundball rate has evaporated, he's just thoroughly mediocre at everything.
Matt Harvey is clearly not broken anymore and if you're a glass half full guy you might even call him average. However, even with our rotation's struggles there's no one I'd want him to replace post-Chatwood.
When you see what these RPs are going for we pretty easily could’ve matched most of the packages with just minor leaguers that it’s taken to get them. I think we will get something still and think it might even be something pretty good/cool yet. Yeah I think Kirby Yates might be the only reliever on the block who would have an acquisition cost that causes any consternation.
He's a proven soft contact guy with an elite groundball rate who even in a down year is very strong against righties. He's basically a B+ Steve Cishek clone.
Yeah. I'd love a better lefty on lefty guy than Rosario. though that's nitpicking (and maybe Smyly is that guy). Regardless, that pen is good and deep. Joe can have a super quick hook and we shouldn't have to worry about burning them out.
Kyle In July 34 IP, 37 H, 5 BB, 33 K, 3 HR, 3.44 ERA Looks like his crappy June was just a blip. Quintana also seemed fixed prior to yesterday, so hopefully he bounces back from that and we can have a respectable rotation again.
I really like Ziegler, but I think our pen needs a little help getting out tough lefties, which he does not help at all. Grab Ziegler AND find a LOOGY to take Rosario's spot in the pen and I'll be fairly happy.
He's back to averaging 95 on his fastball here in July, though he's pitched terribly this month so it clearly hasn't helped much yet. I'd buy that he's been a little unlucky and is still a quality 7th inning guy, but I'd like to aim a little higher for our reliever acquisition since we skimped on the rotation. I'd love Will Smith from the Giants or one of the Nationals guys.
This is...kind of sad. Like with KB down the Cubs are kind of vulnerable. Add someone who can make a horsefeathering impact. Moustakas is fine, he helps, but where's the Schoop/Gausman deal, or the Dozier/Gibson deal? Or why did they let the Dbacks get Escobsr yesterday? This just feels so much like the Pirates a few years as go. They're going to "keep their powder dry" so long that they miss their shot.
