  1. Megill sitting 97-99 is fun as hell
  2. I'm very open to arguments of surplus value and such. I was the guy a few weeks ago like "Wentz? Maybe a 3rd." But elite QBs are basically a cheat code. They're worth something like 4 wins just on their own. The best players at any other position are worth maybe half of that? If the cost is 3 firsts and Jaylon Johnson, you jump at the opportunity. In that scenario you're really only getting burnt if Wilson gets hurt or maybe if the Seahawks hit big on all three of those firsts. When we start aiming our sites lower at like Derek Carr, then we can start counting every nickel and dime and worrying about opportunity cost again.
  3. Chase Strumpf just OBLITERATED a ball. Oh my
  4. I know ST stats largely don't matter, but it's really great to see Nico hitting the hell out of the ball, in the air, considering that was the main worry about him.
  5. Curious to see how Lightfoot manages to use this as a cudgel against the Teacher's Union, but she'll definitely try
  6. Fangraphs updated their Pirates Top Prospects list a few weeks ago and went 51 guys deep. Apostel was not listed, so....yeah
  7. Jake sitting 92-93, which is actually really damn encouraging for the first week of March. Command not there yet, but I don't really care about that yet.
  8. I believe Rodriguez and Steele were the only guys who both A) hadn't appeared in a game and B) we hadn't otherwise gotten an "everything is fine" update on. Now down to just Steele.
  9. I honestly can't allow myself to believe the Bears have a shot at Wilson. He's probably what, the third best QB in the league? On top of that: - He's old enough you have no worries about him learning a new offense - He's young enough you're not all that worried about decline for another few years - He's played most of his career behind terrible offensive lines, and his WRs have generally been good but not great - His cap hit's pretty modest There's honestly nothing wrong with him. The Bears aren't allowed to have nice things like this. I mean he's exceptionally lame in like an Adrien Grenier kind of way, but like that's it?
  10. I know the Indians have a horsfeathers offense, but Mills is getting a lot more swings and misses than I'm accustomed to from him. Particularly for such a lefty heavy lineup.
  11. This tweet isn't about Maples, but I think it's pretty clearly what the Cubs are doing with him as well
  12. Me too I'm also weirdly glad that the pitching staff projects as *awful* rather than just kind of blah. We're going to know very quickly if Hottovy is magic, or if we should start coming up with hypothetical deadline trades.
  13. If for no there reason than aesthetics, I really hope Nico succeeds. More speed please.
  14. I guess my question is, now that we know Russell Wilson's at least nominally a possibility, what could they do that would actually be all that shocking? Like given how low their pick year is they're not favorites for Watson or Wilson or trading up to #2, but they're clearly in the market. If the Cowboys made an (actually pretty shocking) move for Wilson, the Bears could swoop in for Dak? But otherwise...everything else seems either on the table already or pretty underwhelming?
  15. I forget where I saw it (a recent Longenhagen Chat?), but It sounds like his exit velocities are kind of ridiculous too. That'd be a fun as hell profile to add. And as loaded as the system is at catcher, there's room in the pipeline in between Amaya and Hearn. That said, fun college hitters always get pushed up the board as we get closer to draft day, so even though he looks to go in our range now I doubt that'll be true by July.
  16. Kind of a weird fit with no DH
  17. https://twitter.com/lindseyadler/status/1367295970313199620?s=19 https://twitter.com/lindseyadler/status/1367300760237670400?s=19
  18. I mentioned this I think when we were rumored to be connected, but I wonder how the de-juiced ball helps or hurts Sogard. On the one hand, he's really only hit well with the juiced ball in homer friendly parks, because the confluence of those two factors allows him to hit some wall-scraper dongs. On the other hand, .250/.330/.350 might be playable with a deader ball given his defense.
  19. My wife had part of her Thyroid removed. It's more of a minor surgery than you'd think, but she was not back to normal energy-wise for months. There's a lot of trial and error in figuring out the right dosage on the meds.
  20. I think I like him more than Ildemaro Vargas?
  21. If a guy's sitting 95 right now, you would tend to expect what, 97 by midseason? There's maybe a dozen lefties who can do that. Like Raisin said you've gotta try post pandemic Little in the rotation again, but between him, Marquez, and Caraway I'm feeling good about the ability to add a young fire breathing lefty to the pen at midseason.
  22. Not nearly as scary or ominous as it sounds on first blush
