  1. By process of elimination sounds like Carlson and Brown made the team. Pretty surprised Snider is willto go to Iowa.
  2. No, it sounds like he'll go to Iowa so he can play every day and come up mid-season if there's some runway due to injury. I suspect if we hadn't gotten Bregman he would have made the team. But Bregman pushed the bulk of Shaw's playing time to the outfield.
  3. I think this was, in addition to the IVB Plaid pointed out, the notable thing to me. The quality of that fastball was all over the place even just over the course of a single inning. This is a young guy who still has projection but also more straightforwardly some experience-fed mechanical consistency probably goes a long way.
  4. Wing looked great. As you'd expect with a teenager too many non-competitive pitches but he has a chance to be a dude.
  5. That was a majestic dong from Kade Snell, who has looked really good all spring. Getting sent straight to SB out of the draft was a tough assignment. Hopefully with an offseason under his belt he can come back and conquer it.
  6. I am not going to get my hopes up that Sanders sits 95 now. He was probably amped up and also isn't fully stretched out yet. HOWEVER - Last year in 79 innings at Iowa Will Sanders did not throw a single pitch above 95 MPH - Tonight Will threw 5 of his 8 4-seamers 95+ - Last yeat at Iowa Sanders averaged 92.4 on the 4-seamer and 92.0 on the sinker - Tonight the slowest fastball Sanders threw was 93.1
  7. What a PA by Ramirez TBD if he has the game power to be a 1st division starter but he's got a floor of a grindy Tommy La Stella type
  8. I really enjoy that Wideman on the Padres is so skinny
  9. Will Sanders sitting 95-96 😍
  10. None of the regulars are in the lineup today. Given the calendar I suspect tomorrow we see the OD lineup except maybe sans Seiya.
  11. Via the Athletic I wonder if we're about to see Taillon on the IL, Rea in the rotation, and Brown in the pen.
  12. In the other game last night James Triantos had a dong and a walk. The dong was not really hit impressively hard, very much an Isaac Paredes ball, but still good to see. Him pulling the ball in the air more frequently is probably how he unlocks the best versions of himself.
  13. Taillon had more or less his normal velo back that first inning 🤞
  14. Not a huge shock but as Trueblood pointed out the Seiya stuff complicated things a little bit
  15. I think whether it's someone new or a re-signing you can be pretty confident saying you will definitely need to pay market rates for a corner outfielder and a starting pitcher. There will be more for sure but the rest will hinge on TBD 2026 health and performance.
  16. Yeah this point can be taken too far but broadly I think depth gets you to the playoffs and impact wins once you're there. I'm (foolishly?) optimistic that the simple numbers game will work out though. At least one of the Boyd/Shota/Steele trio and at least one of the Cabrera/Horton/Brown/Wiggins quartet will have me feeling good, even if I couldn't tell you for sure today which ones.
  17. Yeah the rotation is weird because with one notable exception I feel good about every SP we have, but on the other it's relatively easy to take the under on every single one of them individually. It won't be as extreme but there's an extent to where it's reminiscent of the bullpen builds from the last few years.
  18. I'd guess there's a slim chance that they IL Taillon. There was some allusion to something with his lower body. I took it as mechanics but it might be a mild injury. But yeah I think you have to keep the leash short. The main reason for hoarding all this SP depth is to protect from injury. But a close second is to avoid another Kyle Hendricks situation.
  19. Yeah I'm not going to dismiss it out of hand, it certainly raised an eyebrow, but I suspect it was just logistics in one direction or the other. A) The team has insisted up and down dating back to the winter that Brown is still a SP B) Brown has looked great this spring, well above expectation, and continued to do so as he's been stretched out C) We have at least one non roster invitee (Snider) that looks like he's worth giving that last bullpen spot to The timing feels weird to pull the rip cord on Brown as a SP.
  20. Shaw has had a pretty stellar spring. I don't take too much from ST results unless it's something that indicates a skill change (e.g. velocity), but given what's been put on Shaw's plate defensively I'm encourage it hasn't hurt him in the batters box even just in exhibition games.
  21. Brett Taylor this AM brought up a good point I didn't know. You can backdate a season opening IL trip by 3 days. So you can IL Seiya and have him only miss a week. A week where they're playing the Nats and Angels. Feels really hard to justify not IL-ing him.
  22. The Pinstripe Alley article you posted sort of gets at this, but look at Team Italy. The team was mostly American but still managed to have loads of fun and become the darlings of the tournament. Oh, and not for nothing but on talent they probably shouldn't have made it as far as they did yet they were in the semifinals, so clearly the positive vibes didn't hurt them on the field.
