I think that will improve and he should at the least be up around 92-94 by spring. Plenty of teams are still pursuing him and some of those teams have heavy analytic-based FOs, who are willing to look past that red flag with the mindset that his velocity should return.

Alright I'll stop annoying you Cool, thanks! That said, I'll echo what others have said in that the proposal you're offering seems to be too much. I like Wilson's peripherals, and I agree a lefty with that kind of velocity and walk rate would be handy in the bullpen, but his overall numbers are not sparkling and it shouldn't take that much to conceivably get him. If the Tigers are going into rebuild mode Soler is a good name to float around, but not for Justin Wilson. Wilson should be attainable for someone like Matt Sczcur, at best, IMO. He's not being highly sought after, and while Soler has lost a lot of value you can still dream big on his potential and that shouldn't be sacrificed for a middle reliever with so-so results. I think context is important and Detroit's defense is/was bad . He's a GB + K specialist and would likely have his best numbers in terms of runs allowed by far with the Cubs. If we could get him for Szczur I would be absolutely shocked. Szczur feels like a guy who would net a B- prospect at best and I'm probably his biggest fan (on the boards I post on). But yeah I'm really high on Wilson as a guy who could go to another level pitching with our D behind him.

He does and there's nothing wrong with that. He's gonna face twice the amount of righties as lefties. See, to me, Soler feels like a guy who might get a BORP or a decent reliever on a 1-1 deal. The dude probably cant anchor a trade for a legit #3 or better. I suppose adding Grimm is too much so I digress.

Grimm is about the same as, if not even a little better than, Wilson and also a year younger. Pass. Grimm was actually better vs LHB than Wilson was this past year. On top of having a better KBB, Wilson gets 50% > grounders and didn't get to pitch in front of the GOAT defense. I think he would be completely lights out with the Cubs.

So, now we are out of the top 3 and have the Jets and Bengals to contend with for top 5. Anyone know who wins the tie breakers with those teams? Edit: nevermind, Bengals are winning their 4th game, so that's good.

I have no idea what his cost will be but I'm estimating Soler's value to be quite low being a DH who hasnt hit and I figure you need to add an MLB arm to get the deal done. Grimm is at the bottom of the totem pole so I'd think he'd be the first to go. We need to see what state Strop and especially Rondon are in before we start trading away a guy like Grimm (unless you plan on bringing in more than Wilson). Yeah I mentioned Holland as well. He's another question mark but he's been far better than Grimm when healthy. You bring up a valid point but there was no structural damage to either Rondon or Strop, right? I know relievers can break out of nowhere but they didn't seem to have grave injuries. I imagine they'll be back to full strength next year.

Are you Wilson's brother or something? Pretty sure the past 20 or so posts you made have been about getting Justin Wilson in a trade. I think a lefty that averages 95 would be a great addition to the pen and nobody else is mentioning him

Hannemann was so raw and old and we gave him a million bucks. Still waiting on that Elsbury potential they must have seen in him. But I'm a huge skeptic there. I like Rademacher. Great approach at the plate. He will be a Major Leaguer and probably one of those late blooming types but I think he will carve some kind of niche for himself. -

Guess I could've read the stickied thread first but yeah, me too. I know that he thrived in a pitchers environment this year but he really hit his stride toward the end of the year, missing bats with great control. Super excited to see if he can carry it over to Tennessee and be in the big league picture for '18.

The Tigers need to lower payroll, but most of their high paid players are necessary pieces. Trading Verlander's contract, saving 12 mil this year while getting a pitcher of similar caliber is a big win for them. It's less clear what the point would be for the Cubs, Verlander's age 35 and 36 seasons at 2/56 don't have much upside. Having a guy under contract past 2017 doesn't mean a ton when he'll be nearing the end of his career and he's super expensive on top of that. I mean, why not just pay Rich Hill his money at that point? The durability is a pretty big deal. I know 2015 happened but Verlander is a pretty good bet for 200+ innings and has been a 5+ WAR guy for 6 of his last 8 seasons. He bounced back in a big way last season and once again proved to be a total horse. Hill on the other hand... myriad issues staying healthy and probably should not be heavily relied on to pitch a lot of innings.
