  1. Did they mention inflammation in his shoulder or something? How do you go from a pitcher complaining about shoulder pain to a lat strain? That's weird. Syndergaard tore his lat muscle IIRC so that's why he missed so much time, but you are correct about how tricky lat injuries can be. Yeah. I didn't mean to compare it to Syndergaard, but was only meaning to show that lat injuries aren't good and a lot of pitchers that break down have suffered lat injuries. And it's a hard thing to diagnose correctly. It often ends up worse than imagined. Indeed. I remember Kerry Wood's lat injury lasted for awhile. It seemed to just never go away or get better.
  2. Yeah, but for how many innings? 6? Maybe 7? There is no way he's throwing 9 no-hit innings.

  4. I tried doing a mock draft and ended up with Zach Watson from LSU to the Cubs at 24. Rocker to the Twins and Weathers to the Yankees I'm confused. Is there a website or simulator you use to do this mock draft or are you just scratching one out on paper? I mean I remember trying to do this for fun many, many years ago and I sucked at it. It's really hard. To do a somewhat realistic mock draft you need good sources and lots of info. I mean good luck in trying to hammer one out I guess. Zach Watson to the Cubs is ... a curious choice.
  5. Would be super dumb on their part to bring him up anytime before the 7th or whatever day of next season. Exactly what I was thinking as well. Delay his FA since the Sox won't be competitive for a couple more years. I've heard some speculation they might call him up sometime over the summer like in late July. Some super optimistic Sox fans think they can be competitive as soon as next year if they go out and sign Machado and some other key FAs. Wishful thinking for sure lol.
  6. Kris, either decide to curse to make a point/statement or say it normally.
  7. I wonder if someone will hit for the cycle today? I was hoping that ball Maybin caught would drop, but I doubt KB would've gotten a triple on that. Q looks good today. I thought he was going to struggle mightily, but then I remembered this Marlins squad is really like a AAA team lol.
  8. [tweet] [/tweet] I've been hearing Cole Wilcox is moving up fast -- like consideration for a top 10 pick now. I didn't know he had a plus changeup. Keith Law wrote a pretty glowing review of Wilcox from their matchup too. He was down on Kumar Rocker and I believe his stock is falling. [tweet] [/tweet]
  9. Yes, he truly is the Orioles' Addison Russell. Man, you used a Regular Show gif before I ever did. That shouldn't happen. I'm angry now (not really)...
  10. I don't know what to think of Filiere. The scouting reports all say his tools are below-average and he wasn't even listed in BA's top 500 draft prospect list last year. Sometimes these guys develop and turn into MLB players, but he'll have to produce at AA before I really believe in him or start to pay attention. I guess I'm already kinda paying attention but you know what I mean.

  12. James Paxton wanted to top his 16K game (that the Mariners blew). Well, he did it by throwing a no-hitter. When he's on and fully healthy he is arguably one of the top 5 pitchers in the game. He only struck out 7 people in this game. Did it under 100 pitches too! https://www.mlb.com/news/james-paxton-throws-no-hitter-in-canada/c-275847096
  13. What the hell? Wow, what a crappy throw lol.
  14. Great AB by Bryant right there. Now please come through Rizzo.
  15. We were promised Barry Larkin dammit. I want Machado ASAP
  16. Doesn't really reflect well on Scott Brooks, and I'm sure Washington fans probably aren't that impressed with him either. As for Toronto, I think they have to at least look at trading DeRozan. As long as LeBron is alive and playing basketball, there's no way that team is going to beat Cleveland. Teams that pride themselves on depth and great benches (like Toronto does) usually don't win championships. Just look at the Bulls earlier this decade...lol. I think Toronto has to keep pushing and try to see if this group can breakthrough. Lebron might leave this offseason and go join some team in the Western Conference. Then you'll have a tough Boston squad that will probably have the best record next year and an up-and-coming Philly team that should be formidable. Blowing it up won't get Toronto anything great in return most likely. Lowry is making too high a salary and is getting up there in age. DeRozan is a good player, but I don't consider him a superstar. The rest of the team has little trade value. Honestly, no team really has a chance in the NBA Finals from the Eastern Conference, but getting there has some value.
  17. cubs bringing back john lackey confirmed Don't mention it even as a joke...
  18. Yeah, I'm not big on taking a HS catcher in the first round. Too risky and recent history says it's a bad idea. Where did Carter Stewart and Cole Winn go? Winn went 11, Stewart 15 and, you didn’t ask but Hankins went 17. Thanks. So we might have a chance at one of them if they start sliding or other players start rising, but it looks doubtful right now.
  19. Rodriguez went 10, Larnach 21, Rocker 22, Casas 23, Weathers 25, Eierman 26, Scott 27, and Denaburg 32. Jonathan India went 4! Yeah, I'm not big on taking a HS catcher in the first round. Too risky and recent history says it's a bad idea. Where did Carter Stewart and Cole Winn go?
  20. Logistically it'd have to be Russell or Baez, barring injury. Unless the price somehow drops to prospects, it doesn't make much sense otherwise. Any sort of Schwarber/Happ/Almora package comes with a corresponding drop off in the outfield, and we're probably only talking about adding a win or two going from Baez/Russell to Machado by the time the trade gets done. We're not trading Baez for Machado. I don't even know if we'd be willing to trade Baez for a young cost-controlled SP at this point. The Cubs made Baez and Russell available this past offseason, but they didn't like the trade offers and I don't know how serious they were about breaking up their SS/2B combo. I don't think the Cubs can afford Machado and Harper, even if Heyward miraculously decided to opt-out and we offloaded Zobrist's full salary. So, if they trade for Machado I think it's a rental all the way. I might be willing to include Addison + J. Wilson for Machado + M. Givens + some prospects, but I don't know if that would get it done. The Orioles don't strike me as a very forward thinking organization that looks at defensive metrics or new ways of measuring defense. Addison's value is almost completely on defense right now. Yeah, I mean he's young, has shown power in the past and is cost-controlled too. I don't like Russell's approach at the plate and I stated I felt like Baez is the better player with a higher upside last year. It's too early to say I was definitely right, but Baez is better so far this season. Addison isn't this bad at the plate and I have no clue what happened to his power. I don't think Machado is getting moved anytime soon. I'm not totally opposed to trading for him, but it's going to be a tough trade to make considering it'll probably be just a rental.
  21. I'm biased and I know that, but this Cubs regime really stresses the concept of "makeup" and having good character. This organization is much more likely to draft someone like Chris Singleton (who is a very impressive young man) than take a chance on someone with questionable makeup like Heimlich. Stressing good character? Lol, well I was referring to the draft and stressing how important makeup is when they're who deciding who to draft and setting up their big board. I don't like Chapman, but the calculus (talent > makeup concerns) was decided and the trade was necessary for the Cubs to win it all in 2016. I will grant you trading for Chapman doesn't look good when you purport to value high character and makeup as an organization.
  22. They need to send Happ down and maybe bench Heyward for a little bit or a long bit. Maddon needs to do one of his patented gimmicks to get this team out of the funk they're in. Hire a magician or a spoken word artist or a horsefeathering ventriloquist. Anything will do right now...
  23. Well, we can take solace in the fact that we're probably not one of the teams that's contacted him. I don't know why a team would contact him or consider drafting him. I hope you're right. I'm biased and I know that, but this Cubs regime really stresses the concept of "makeup" and having good character.
